Great Hall of Moscow Conservatory, 1979 Kozlovsky sings Fenesta che lucive (Bellini) in his concert. He is 79 years old here. It's a live recording, a slight sound and video desync is my fault.
Signor Kozslovsky delivers an interpretation at an advance age that surpasses pure technique. His whole soul is singing the internal tragedy that all that hears him can responds only crying with him.. His, is the gift of vocal artistry, the art of expressing the most sorrowful of human emotions,
Incroyable!!!
Old fashioned, full-throated singing and acting in the best of ways. And what a gorgeous song by the Sicilian-born composer of Norma who I never thought of as writing Neapolitan songs, but there you have it.
I'm speechless... What other tenor has retained such longevity?? Most sing later in life only as former shadows of themselves, but here at 79 years of age, he sings not only convincingly, but BEAUTIFULLY! If I was wanting to introduce a friend to say, Gigli, I would invariably choose a recording from the tenor's prime. No later than the age of forty five, though preferably from his thirties. Although his voice did decline with age, Ivan Kozlovsky is the only tenor I'm aware of who stayed relevant nearly to the day he died at 93 years of age. Even as an old man, he still brings me to tears. There is no need to reminisce of former glory days. His glory days were his life in full!!! The passion was always there, ringing out with fiery resonance.....
What artists were on earth before my generation. What a love of art he had! Without, his gift well preserved with love and passion; how could he sing like this. Lets pray for his soul...
A moving remembrance of this great artist in his old age. Unfortunately, politics prevented him from being better known outside Russia.
English translation pity that this kind of melody the few and not appreciate all this is very sad to know that almost nobody gives interest to this kind of music
Erial80
Many thanks!!! Caro *teachertenor * by this example that gives us assess the possibility of Greatness Interpretative of this Great Tenor at an age that is truly a prodigy and I agree with you Chère amie is also the envy of many tenors that enjoy undeserved success Many Thanks!!! *sfumato77 *to share it with of the world!!!
Punto....
Fenesta ca lucive e mo' nun luce Sign'è ca nenna mia stace ammalata S'affaccia la sorella e me lo dice Nennella toja è morta e sotterrata Chiagneva sempe ca durmeva sola Mo' duorme co' li muorte accompagnata Mo' duorme co' li muorte accompagnata Addio fenesta, rèstate 'nzerrata Ca nénna mia mo nun se po' affacciare Io cchiù nun passarraggio la'sta strata Vaco a lo camposanto a passíare 'Nzino a lo juorno ca la morte 'ngrata Mme face nénna mia ire a trovare Mme face nénna mia ire a trovare Fenestra ca lucive, e mo' nun luce
Amazing singing and amazing rendition!! But in which language??? It seems to be a sort of mix of Neapolitan and Russian!! Anyway, really really beautiful.
@Jack82you He sang it in Russian but there is a moment when he forgot it (remember he was almost 80) and gave us "Mo durme cu li morti accompagnata" in Neapolitan. Anyhow, he was a great tenor. And this is one of the most beautiful songs by Vincenzo Bellini (yes, it was unquestionably Il Cigno di Catania who wrote it) and yet...it is so terribly sad. Adrien J. Alpendre PhD
@Lanza3838 The only problem IVAN KOZLOVSKY wasn't Russian, he was Ukrainian. I thought that as Spaniard you are close enough to know that Russia and Ukraine are not the same.
He probably thought of himself as a Soviet citizen, the national identification in the USSR was not that big an issue as it is now. Yes, Ukrainian, he dearly loved Ukraine and the Ukrainian language, popularized Ukrainian cultural heritage, but he lived and worked most of his life (from 26 years of age until death) in Moscow where he was also somewhat of a public activist and a very respected person.
It is already senility. There is a Russian saying: it is time to take your prowess and go home.
