Greatest drumbeat in the history of British rock period!! Possibly in all of rock, my God I simply haven't the vocabulary to do it justice but if you just listened you'll know yourself by now. Makes my soul wobble
A couple of things: 1. Your interpretation of the song is spot on. 2. In terms of exploring different musical influences, LZ was probably the most interested in re-interpreting different musical styles through the rock and roll lens. Most of their songs were blues influenced, but here's a list of others: *Kashmir: Middle Eastern/arabic/indian *Black Mountain Side: Eastern european country/folk *Going to California: 1960s American Hippie/folk *Dyer Maker: Reggae *The Rain Song: classical *Bron-y-aur Stomp: Celtic folk *Hot Dog: American country *Fool in the Rain:salsa *The Battle of Evermore: medieval court music *South Bound Suarez: 1950s boogie woogie *The Grunge: funk Robert Plant's lyrics were influenced by a variety of things, including Greek mythology, medieval and JRR Tolkein books. In addition, a song called "Communication Breakdown" can be considered an early example of punk music. My point is: crazy variety.
Thanks for the knowledge! Thats one thing i'm appreciating most about this band, the variety is out of this world. Also thanks for listing the songs, I'm adding those to the list!
@@adelahmed8048 In this case, I respectfully disagree. The same is the case with “Since I’ve Been Loving You”. The 1973 MSG version is DEVASTATING! But yes, generally, the studio versions are best.
Probably the only reaction I've come across of this song that doesn't mention the incredible awesomeness of John Bonham and his drumming. Arguably his finest hour in the studio. He literally drives this from start to finish. God, I miss him so much.
Just possibly the greatest ever blues band in the world and in history. Also great at soul, funk, rock and rock and roll. Jack of all trades and masters of them all!
This song is an old Southern hymnal with several variations with one of the best known by Blind Willie Johnson recorded in 1927 and Bob Dylan in 1962. They hadn't really rehearsed this song before recording it so they didn't have an end worked out. They kept jamming until Robert sings almost to the end but doesn't have a word to say until drummer John "Bonzo" Bonham coughs, then Robert says "cough", then Bonzo says something like "That's gonna be the one, isn't it?" (meaning that take), then sound engineer Andy Johns says "come have a listen, then" and Bonzo replies "oh yes, thank you". Zep often left little bits of things in so the listener could feel like they were there with them recording. There's a great live performance of this from Earls Court in 1975. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xTrQ7vUZsIo.html
the musical range and diversity is what made Zeppelin so great. For a band that was around for only 12 years their legacy and influence is staggering..
@@mikezak8812 --Beatles had some really good songs but they sound dated. When the vast majority of younger people today want to hear a rock band they listen to Zeppelin. Beatles IMO were not a rock band---they were a pop band. 20 minutes shows and were whisked off the stage to a waiting car and were gone. Zeppelin routinely played 3+ hour concerts. Zep was a true rock band that still sounds good today and not dated.
@@robertwheatley2471 listen Brah- I have no problem comparing apples and oranges as long as we keep it savey. My statement focused on the fact that the Beatles did what they did, in a little more than half the time that the mighty Led Zeppelin did what they did. They are 2 of my 3 favorite rock bands hands down. All I was saying, was the Beatles showed similar diversity. Zep did a lot of blues, rock n roll, and cutting edge hard rock. (And that reggae moment) Very little of their songs resembled another, as the very early Beatles. When they quit touring, they delved into so many different genres, and invented more... Peace ! EDIT: How can you say that the Beatles were not a rock n roll band ?
@@mikezak8812 --Beatles early stuff to me is not "rock" at all. Maybe it is to you, not to me. The majority would agree that they were pop. Not to say that it's bad. It just isn't "rock" in the traditional sense. They were before my time but I did get to see Zeppelin at the L.A. Forum with my Uncle in '77 when I was 10. They only played for 3 1/2 hours and will never forget it. For a pure band rock there was simply no comparison. Beatles were great for what they did and have great songs but to me were not a true rock band in the classic sense. I only listen to them once in a while. I suppose when they took drugs later on and ventured into their psychedelic phase they were more "rock" oriented. But I have heard many young millennials identify FAR more with Zeppelin over the Beatles. IMO as the years and decades go on that will continue to be the case..
Awesome reaction!!!! They had NO EQUALS. Just the best four that ever did it. I am so greatful that I grew up in the 60s . To see people born after 1990 that never saw LZ ....priceless.
I think your interpretation is pretty spot on. It’s just a bloke pleading his case to get through those pearly gates. One of my favorites. Check out the Lemon Song by them.
So they take an old Blues song "Jesus Make Up My Dying Bed" by Blind Willie Johnson in 1927. And they decibilise it into Blues Rock. Perfection. So where to now, Jervis? More Blues Rock? How about Since I've Been Loving You Live MSG, NYC, 1973.. Or Funk Rock? Nobody's Fault but Mine Live 2007 (Robert harmonica) mind you it's Blues AND Funk. Folk Rock? Gallows Pole.. Pure Rock? The Ocean. Unable to classify genre? Achilles Last Stand. What Is and What Should Never Be. Babe I'm Gonna Leave You and... and... Greetings from Canada- peace and be safe.
That might just be my favourite Zeppelin song, which is just about impossible to narrow down a top ten let alone one. They've never sounded more powerful or more brutal on this absolute beast of a song. And do I need to mention John Bonham's thunderous drumming...lord have mercy!
Delta Blues! They master everything! The GOATS OF GOATS!!!! PERIOD!!!!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Dude you should have done the live version! 🤨 Dude why are you wearing a women’s shower cap? 😂😂😂😂
The first hundred times I listened to this, I just kind of accepted the massive sound that is Zeppelin, but as the years go by and I watch more and more first-timers listen, I realize just how powerful those Bonzo hands and feet are. Fan know that back in the day, he was deemed too loud by many groups, not for Zep. Bonzo with Page on guitar, Percy on vocals, and JPJ on bass gives you one of the greatest bands of all time, bar none.
Bonjour Jervis, I suggest you also listen the album Presence (1976) with in particular: "Achilles Last Stand" "For Your Life" "Royal Orleans" "Nobody's Fault But Mine"... Ok, ok all album is good in fact hahaha!!!
Please correct me if I'm wrong. You are British.. yes...?!! As an American, I love the way you English speak English....!!! Peace my Brother Jesse from the USA
Longest song on an album, live they would get carried away and play a song for over 30 minutes. There's a live version of Dazed and Confused 42 minutes long.
