@@hrfunk quality, fit and finish is tight, recoil is good, trigger broke in very nicely, reliable, good ergos and can be had for around 400 or slightly less. I do wish they put a rail on the dust cover. It would also be nice if there were other grip modules like the SIG pistols, maybe one day.

I really like the Masada S's trigger pull. In a stressful situation (gunfight) the heavier trigger pull will help to aid one from unintentionally discharging the pistol. Yes, I know that a lot of training and trigger discipline will help mitigate such bad habits and a potential lawsuit or loss of life. However, stressed-out people, even those who regularly train with their firearms, are more apt to make a life changing mistake if the trigger is at a near-competition (light) level. Just my two cents though.

Please forgive me if I begin with a brief personal story. Sixty-six years ago, when I was a college student, I worked diligently, saved thriftily, and eventually I was able to purchase a ‘new 67 VW Bug for cash. It was a very serviceable, NO FRILLS, reasonably reliable and economical automobile. It served me very well, if not with perfection or great comfort, for years. What does this have to do with the Masada Slim? I suggest a LOT, specifically the design goals appear to be rather similar: good quality, reliability, utility, and functionality, at an attractive price, and with no non-essentials (my VW didn’t even have a blower for the heating/defrosting system - a noticeable Ohio, New York and New England deficiency . . . similarly, the Slim’s takedown design appears to be potentially problematic). But the Bug filled my BASIC requirements well, many for years. AndI suspect the Slim would do just that. I wouldn’t purchase a Slim - there are so many other excellent options in that “class” of micro-compact 9mm’s, which appear to likely be preferable - nor I would buy a Bug in 2023. BUT - and it’s a darn important “but” - my needs and my wallet have changed significantly since 1967. Were I to want a micro-9 that was entirely decent and very affordable, however, I’d wager that the Slim would be on my short-list.

I had a '71 Super Beetle with the auto and a sunroof and wish I still had it!!!!! I agree with you wholeheartedly on the Slim. Really didn't care for the way they did the rear sight? Either buy our nightlights or we will just leave two big holes to show you the error of your ways? Where are you readily going to find parts to keep it running? Where will you find mags or holsters? Bet the mags are expensive and the holsters will have to be custom or the ones Masada offers? All the above when there are perfectly good Glocks and Shields and Sigs out there?

I really don't like that small take down pin, reminds me of some of Ruger's 380s and cheaper small 9mm. I guess they saved money on this design, or just could not incorporate a better take down system in the thin frame? But thanks for being honest in the review.

You’re welcome. I suppose it’s not tremendously dissimilar to the 1911, but it’s smaller and a little easier to lose.

@jimmarcum7362
@jimmarcum7362 Год назад
@@hrfunk Well at least the 1911 take down lever is "L" shaped and will not roll away. I purchased my first 1911 in the late 60's and have never lost one yet. This design is will probably keep some from properly cleaning their pistol, or not shooting it as much. I remember when I got my first Ruger 22lr standard automatic and how at first is was so difficult for me to disassemble it for cleaning. I finally got the hang of it and in no time wore out and broke the trigger. But that was OK, by that time Ruger came out with the MK II with a newly design trigger.

Best EDC I’ve ever owned. Muddy River Tactical makes holsters for the Slim. Love this gun but hate the re-assembly. Need to ask: did you have a hard time getting the pin back in? Seemed that the video was edited. If you did, not surprising. Everytime I clean the gun, I plan on spending a couple of minutes trying to get it back in. :)

Good morning HR. Nice review, looking forward to the range video. I agree that the trigger on the full size is much better. You know the rule that if you buy a spare part you will never lose the original? I talked to IWI and they said they will replace lost take down pins but aren't selling spares. Maybe they will have grip frames with an accessory rail for lights later. From a fellow old timer "Happy trails to you"😂

Thank you for the great review. Not sure I would buy this particular gun as there are quite a few critical aspects that are not fully compatible with the full size, like magazines, chassis, and existing optics. To me, it looks like it has been designed with one goal in mind, to be slim with IWI compromising on other important aspects. I would like to see a compact and small size frame shells, slides and barrels that will offer a large array of options to existing full size Masada owners.

The 17+1 magazines for the Jericho 941 R9 (full size with steel frame) are compatible with the Masada slim. There is a bit of a gap between the bottom of the grip and the end of the magazine though. So a sleeve on the magazine would be nice, but not necessary.

If companies would chamber their small carry pistols in a decent caliber (357 Sig) I would carry one for EDC. I simply don't trust a 9mm to save my life with only a couple of rounds. The 357 Sig with quality ammo has ballistics very similar to the King of one shot stops, the 357 mag. I've watched untold videos of self defense shootings and it usually takes at least 3 rounds to make the bad guy stop and even then most of the time they walk or run, even if only a short distance. More rounds also leads to more legal problems even if it was a justified shooting. I'll just stick with my 4" 1911 45 for my EDC. I'm so used to her that everything I do is automatic. Drawing, press checks, flipping off the safety, it's all an unconscious act. Plus if by some great stroke of bad luck the bad guy manages to get her away from me, the majority of them will have no idea how to use it. They're all used to the standard no safety, point and pull Glock style pistols that all of the levers confuses them and gives me a chance to put a blade in their throat. Mr. Browning is considered a genius for a reason. I'm also getting old, so that plays a part too. We tend to go with what we were raised on.
