So much bad stuff happened to him when he was a young man (losing his other siblings, coming within a hair of being sent to gas ovens) that he became fearless. "Nothing worse can possibly happen to me." This explains a lot about how he was. He could afford to be totally honest without "fear" of repercussions.

Starker is a really clever teacher of cello , good information for me as a string restorer and sound adjuster.
