At 2:55 a five finger ghost then a second later a four finger ghost. I remember watching this one with my dad 60 years ago. We both laughed at the weather vane roast chicken.
For those who don't know the lyrics to the ghost's song, here they are (the way I hear them, I mean): Jeepers creepers, I love to haunt those sleepers Jeepers creepers, huh, it's a lot of fun! (scary blubbering) Taunting, jaunting Through the night I'm haunting Glaring, scaring 'Til the night is done A-haunting I'll go (x2) (neighs like a horse) A-haunting I'll go Always good Move around with ghostly stealth I'm so good, That I even scare myself! Sneaking, creaking Through the night I'm shrieking Prowling, howling I'm a bad ol' ghost!!
Did this one get redone later? I really remember the ghost's song being at a higher more lively tempo. And I thought Porky was sleeping in the haunted house, not investigating it.
@@nowthatsjustducky You may be thinking of "Scaredy Cat" from about 10 years later. Unlike this one, Porky owns and had just purchased the haunted house and is spending his first night there with a frightened housecat version of Sylvester. Also unlike this one, the ghosts are actually a colony of mice.
@@toucan3144 I definitely remember Scaredy Cat. That was one of several that creeped me out (though I still loved them) as a kid. It was right up there in that regard with Satan's Waitin', Peace On Earth, that Tom and Jerry where Tom got killed by a piano and had to get a signed signature from Jerry forgiving him by midnight, or burn in Hell. and one or two others I can't quite recall. I am definitely remembering a slightly updated version of this, in color, the song's tempo sped up a bit, and the ghost's vanishing effect being like a windowshade instead of a swirly.
It was my favorite as a kid, it's never played anymore because of characters smoking & the blackface gag at the end. Enjoy though, I'm not sure if I'm allowed to have this up, RU-vid could take it down anytime.
I was like 8 when I watched this.... that song the creeper sang was always somewhere in the back of my mind. This was in the ninteys and now to see that this episode came out at the start of ww2 just fascinates me
There is a colour "edited" version of this. Its possible it could have been slightly speed up for that version. I'm not sure I'd have to look at them together. But this is the original as it was shown in theaters in 1939
@@mikenstein78 It had to have been the colorized one that I recall...I also remembered the ghost's quick vanishing effect being like a rolling up windowshade instead of the drain swirly effect.
@@nowthatsjustducky RU-vid for what ever reason wont let me upload the colorized version. But last time I checked you could find it on dailymotion. Or look it up on internetarchive.org (that's were I found my version) but the picture quality on the colour verson is kinda ass.
@@mikenstein78 Yeah. I was planning on looking for it on the Internet Archive, or even on watchcartoononline.io Later though. Got too much work to do around here right now. Looks like a nice day to work on the back yard for next year's regrassing and other planting...
Wasn't there a haunted house cartoon with porky where he opens the front door and ask "Is any be-deep be-deep body here?" and a ghostly voice replies "No! There's no be-deep ce-deeop body here!" I swear I remember seeing this as a child
@@mikenstein78 Hmm no.. it was an older B&W episode (maybe 1930's or 40's) and was definitely set in a haunted house. No Leprechauns. Thanks for the suggestion tho
I still have a file of the colour version, however it looks like it was taken from an old vhs so the quality was terrible. Also thought it would be cool to upload it in it's original form
The end was cut out of a lot of TV versions (but not all I remember seeing this in its entirety back in the 80's Unfortunately racist jokes are rather common in cartoons of this era.
7:53 what a matter baby?😆😆. Whoo! Finally! The ending kinda sucked. Np riders? Really? He should've done it to get back him. And what ghost say at the end? I never saw it.
I agree, the ending is an ugly repugnant reminder of American culture at the time, and would be completely un acceptable today as it should have been then. But that was then, this particular cartoon is over 81 years old and I don't believe in censorship or trying to retro actavly change the past. My hope is most people will see this cartoon and others like it and use it as a discussion on what culture was like and appreciate how far we have come since then.
@@mikenstein78 I agree-don't censor it...just don't repeat it. many cartoons I grew up watching in the 70's were from this era and had these type of stereotypes in them. I knew it was from a bygone era even as a 7 year old.
@@newjerseybt And why is that written in that sign? I'm sorry, I'm not an English native speaker and sometimes I have a hard time understandig implicatures. Thanks a lot though, for your answer :-)
I will never forget the ending of this video. I remember asking my cousin about the ending and he said they are making fun of black people and I was crushed. I never quite looked at looney toons the same.....
Unfortunately that joke was common place during the 20's 30's 40's. It shows up in many looney tunes & Disney shorts of the era. Looney tunes actually have a group of shorts called the "censored 11" eleven shorts soo offense they we're pulled in the 60's and never officially released since.
That ending ruins it for me. Admittedly, I was too young and to get it as a kid (a 7 year Filipino kid). Had no idea what it was about. Fast forward 30 years and I was thinking of sharing this now with wife. Rewatched it. Nope. She’s half African American. But you don’t have to half, full, quarter or not black at all to be offended. Damn shame this cartoon.
that’s Right, wwe guy,However the scene was edited in future versions but for some reason, asian cartoon network airing preserve the scene intact as well the golden collection dvds 📀
@@carlagon4437 the golden collection intentionally left all the cartoons un edited. The 1st two sets had a warning disclaimer by Leonard Maltin and the rest by Whoopi Goldberg
I'm not sure if it's in the public domain or not, I cant find any info on it, nor do any official wb cartoon lists include it. If it's still up in a month I will upload some more
