This film DESERVES an Oscar more than any other film I’ve seen in the past year. The actor who played Numa was PHENOMENAL. He deserves so many accolades for his performance. Just incredible.
You're right. And the fact that the Academy finally did not give them any Oscars it reveals the political and economic interests of the American Film Industry to protect "the exclusivity" of the US in making "the best" blockbusters.
He's hilarious! And so smart. Nando also, I listened to both of them in different interviews and I can see why they are the ones to sacrifice themselves and go on that 10 day hike.
I'm so happy Tom is giving support to J, I strongly believe The impossible had a lot of weight for him to be selected as the new Spiderman, the performance he gave in that movie was magnificent. I love seeing Enzo here in this panel ❤️ he really did a beautiful job, such a special person to have portrayed. I wish him the best in his future career. Such a gem of an actor. 👏🏻
For me the most hard thing to learn in this movie was about the Strauch cousins their kindness and strength for rationing and don’t let anybody know how they did it and keeping it all inside in their hearts in order to don’t make anyone feeling guilty 😢 breaks my heart they were just kids trying to survive 😞💔 the Strauch deserve all our respect and compassion
I read Strauch book. It's a beautiful book about his spiritual feelings over the whole thing. It not much about in great detail what happen up there, there other books with other survivors that explain things in detail. It's more about his inner thoughts about his home and the love and closeness he had with his family
I saw this film in theaters and it was one of the most visceral films I've ever seen. I appreciate it even more hearing that Roberto loves the film so much and feels its true to what they experienced.
You should watch it in the original spanish, It will give a smidge of realism since they corrected all type of spanish mannerisms in language by the real survivors and entonation and acting goes to next level. As a spanish guy I prefer to watch english films in the original voice and it's always so much more immersive!
Agreed! The screening I went to was in Spanish with english subtitles. Watching films in their original languages definitely feels more genuine. @@-u-i3419
J.A. Bayona sharing the thought behind the scene where Numa goes back to the fuselage gave me goosebumps. He is an incredible storyteller. He deserves an Oscar for his directing. This film has a hold on me, it's been 3 days since I've watched it and I can't let it go.
I love how Bayona speaks about how this film gives the survivors the opportunity to give back to those who died. The reciprocity of the dead giving their bodies so the survivors can survive and those survivors using this film to bring the dead back to life. How beautiful. This film is truly a love story above all else. ❤️
Tom is a great interviewer! His experience as an actor and as a producer/filmmaker himself makes him a knowledgeable, empathetic conduit for info about this project.
I just spent this afternoon with him at his clinic, and he is so down to earth, grounded, humble, compassionate and witty... his sense of humor is great! One of the greatest guys you could know or meet.
I’d have loved to see Nando Parra in here. What a real life hero. And I’m obsessed with Numa, Enzo did an amazing job as him. Kudos to all. I’m never complaining about being hungry for a few hours or having to endure the cold again
@teasecremeactually, they were starving and freezing while shooting the movie. Enzo was only eating a can of tuna and a tangerine a day in order to get not only the look but the experience as well. He spoke about it in many interviews; they also shot the movie in a place where it was freezing cold and it was as close as it could be from the climate conditions in The Andes, cause they didn't use a green screen, Bayona was looking to recreate the experience. He wanted the actors to feel what the survivors felt. It was very important for him to get as close as they could to the real story to really capture the struggle and pain.
SOTW was one of the best films ive watched. It kind of had that Titanic vibe but the whole society of the snow element just got to me. Made me shed quite a few tears. Honestly, I think it goes beyond Titanic for me. Choosing Numa as the narrator was the money shot of this movie. My new number 1 film where i can watch many times SOTW. 👌🏾
The more you watch this film, the more you realise the genius of it. Absolutely every aspect was well thought out. It became my favourite film very quickly!
This was an INCREDIBLE movie. Bravo everyone, thank you to Netflix for producing it. I watched it twice back to back and will watch it again. Just phenomenal!
Interesting that they brought up giving the dead a voice. One of the things I couldn't help but notice watching Alive all those years ago is they changed the names of almost all the dead in that movie.
This was exactly what I needed to see after watching the film. I had so many questions about the process that needed answering. Tom was such an excellent interviewer. Kudos to him, and to the entire cast and crew for the grueling work they did to create such a masterpiece of storytelling. Really looking forward to rewatching with all of this context in mind.
Movie of the year. Definitely in my top movies of all time. Y’all remember that feeling after finishing Titanic in the theaters? Needed to take a moment.
I was eager to watch this whole meeting and interview! Thanks for uploading it! Greetings from Uruguay 🇺🇾 Congrats to everyone involved in this production! I watch this movie almost every day.
I think that the most precious thing in this life is to sacrifice for others. It's something very human that's why Numa is so special and authentic. Of course the human beings have this animal part, but what make us human is our soul and our true nature is being generous and cooperative with others. It's a pity that they think that Numa should have been more animal and had to accept that. Because the point of this character is that he is the only one (as far as I know from the film) who cared about the spiritual implications that's why his behaviour is so human.
He wasn't the only one that cared about the spiritual implications of eating human flesh! For most of them that was a big dilemma and it was depicted, they had several discussions about it, moral, religious and practical implications of choosing to eat or not. Numa couldn't accept that eating was the only real option they had, as Bayona said, he had to understand his animal side that needed to be fed, but did it so late that he was incredible weak and ultimately died. Not sure why you say "the point of this character": Numa died in the movie because that's what happened to the real person, in real life, it wasn't a choice of the director or the script.
The fact that the Academy finally did not give this film any Oscars reveals the political and economic interests of the American Film Industry to protect "their exclusivity" in making "the best" blockbusters. So, the Oscars Academy did not give any award to J. Bayona's film because it threatens that exclusivity: Bayona is a Spanish director who has shot the best blockbuster of the year, with a full cast who speaks Spanish language (and not English as the production companies wanted to imposed on Bayona).
It’s nice to hear from the crew about the background of this movie. I’m glad it involved the survivors and families so closely, they’re so proud of the production. Amazing win for Uruguayan representation ❤
What excellent translator person, she She used the same intensity and emotion that he used in each response. Excelente interview. Vamo Arriba Enzo!!! 👏👏👏👏🙌🙌🙌🙌💫💙☀️
Watched this last now . I have not seen a movie that has held my full attention for so long. … I was even yelling at the tv saying HOLLY SHIT!!!!! OMG OMG OMG … ..I never do that … but I did it last night . I was yelling and screaming at the tv !!!!
When they were talking about how difficult and sad filming those scenes was for the actors and Roberto was just sitting there listening to them and he looked so detached .. i felt so sad for him cause he actually went through the real thing and experienced those losses...
Roberto calling Matias tiny is very cute to me. I’m so glad the actors were able to contact the survivor they played or their families for those who didn’t.
It´s really heartbroken to me when Enzo is talking about "how funny was to film the crash moment", I don´t have any doubts had to be funny), to see Roberto´s face at that moment 21:45 ... The scariest moment of his life (probably) was the funniest moment for the actors.... I´m obsessed with this human drama...
I agree with you, it was a bit tactless... But I watched both Roberto and Nando talking about the ordeal and both said that the worst was the avalanche that carried them all under the snow. Enzo's worst day was also filming that scene.
I first knew about this story 52 years ago, when I read front page of the newspapers in 1972. since then I have read all the books, seen the 3 movies SURVIVE 1976, ALIVE 1993 and Society 2024. So transfixed that I even sing the song- Break it all- (the song at the airport scene) on my youtube channel. Its very real for me as I am similar age to the survivors. 💖💖🌹🌹New Subscriber here ✌✌
The latest "movies" are about rewriting the past, changing color, gender, orientation, and maybe even diet. Hats off on this one for not getting lost in trends, agenda and "the message"! All the effort are put in the right place: show the crude reality, hold nothing back.! Unsurprisingly, feels very, very respectful in such a tragedy. If 2024 starts like this, maybe is hope for great movies, with great characters that feel real. Great Interview/ chat btw!
@@_bella2345 I'm assuming you mean: "why you care so much?" the answer would be: Because I love well done movies, characters, cinematography and directing.
