"Les chansons d'amour" - mon film fétiche...Combien de fois l'ai-je vu? 20 fois ou plus? Doux, amer, joyeux, mélancolique, triste et beau. Assurément la meilleure prestation de Louis Garrel qui porte ce film iconique...et puis c'est PARIS. Tellement de souvenirs, de sensations au plus profond de ma chair. ♥
Love me less but love me a long time. So powerful. Love this scene. I think what Erwann is trying to say is that "yes you can stay here with me, but I just want you to know that I love you" I do not think he is demanding anything at all he just genuinely loves Ismael and I think the end with the kiss is just beautiful and really is just striking. love this movie.
"love me less, but love me a long time..." quick passionate love might just burn out... so he wants to be loved less... not too intense, but enough that will last a long, long time.
I think it was Erwann who sang "love him a little less intensely but for a long time." Also, Ismael was with Julie for eight years. Their relationship was pretty long,so long that he felt bored with it. It wasn't until Julie's sudden death did he finally realise how much he loved her and how regretful he was about the way he treated Julie.
oK, I understand. I suppose we can't do anything about that. Except telling all our friends how beautifull that kind of movies are ^^ By the way, your country is beautifull too !
Yeah I agree the lyrics are not exactly easy to translate but this is a REALLY wrong translation, I can tell, I'm French please correct that. This is a really beautiful song it's too bad if people get the wrong meaning out of it.
Great movie, i love louis. I have a piece of advice though, do not rely on the subtitles. If you don't understand french I recommend making friends with someone who does, because the subs in this movie were way off from actually meaning. It stills gets you to the same destination i suppose, but it's just kind of irritating when you hear something and then the subtitles are so random lol xD
@PurlGrrl2525 Hmm, je ne pense pas que Erwann souhaite qu'Ismaël soit amoureux de lui, même si bien sur il veut que ça se termine comme ça ! ôo à mon avis il veut plutôt être avec Ismaël peu importe qu'il l'aime ou non, mais il ne doit pas ignorer l'amour d'Erwann. C'est assez explicite avec " être un corps, je suis d'accord " et " mais je crains que pour tout ça, tu ne doives entendre ' je t'aime ' ". Non ? Enfin ce n'est que mon point de vue x) !!
My French is not very good -- but isn't Erwann saying "*YOU* have to hear *I* love you"? The difference being that he doesn't need to hear Ismael say it, but for Ismael to know that he loves him.
Shut up a little small treasure You got it all wrong again 'm Very valuable, saving me Agree us but not of it Being a body I agree I seek only arms My bed still OK Delights under the sheets But I fear that for all that You should hear ..
Translation is always the same. Literal translations never quite work the same way. I remember watching La Cage Aux Folles with English subtitles, and whilst the English was funny, the French was a different funny. It was like watching two different movies at the same time and getting twice the number of jokes... Songs are twice as hard. I think this is a good translation. The feelings behind the words they say are just as understandable in both cultures....
Why do you say that ? I have lot of friends who do like that kind of movies. And if you like this movie, try to watch "Les Actrices". Great movie too ^^ (I hope you understand my poor english lol)
Being a body I agree Offer you my arm why not My bed still OK To laugh or dirty linen But I fear that for all that I am vieu, widowed and sectarian A poor fool secretary I am beautiful, young and Breton I feel the rain, the ocean and pancakes with lemon
@slyckafin How bad are the translations? I can understand if the translations are word for word without the philosophical implications or is it a cultural context that's missing from the translations?
Although you are right, that the translation is not the best, you misunderstand some "poetic lines" in the tranlation, for example, he does not sing, that he has sung a stupid song, but the song of an idiot, that means at all the same, like the original text
