Been listening to Dilla for 15 years and just found this in Dec 2022. The God of off-kilter harmony. In order he brings chaos and then in chaos he injects harmony. Perfect Alchemist !! Dilla looking out for us from the beyond. RIP Jay Dee.
A nice broken chord progression with cool semitones on an electric piano, a steady drum loop, some cuts in it and a low pass on the verses with maybe a little shaker or something on the chorus... All I need. It's crazy how I've always wanted to make music like this and discovered the best inspiration to date in Dilla's music
@@iampetey1212 The drums are mostly looping, with a variation or a cut here and there, wasn't talking about sampling or anything, looping isn't limited to those.
@@iampetey1212 I just mean he loops/repeats sections without going super crazy with a bunch of variations and fills, just talking about how I generally like the degree of repetition in Dilla's music. I love stuff on the other end of the spectrum, like JD Beck's many patterns, or those who never play the same phrase quite the same way, but Dilla tends to settle on an almost hypnotic groove, the minor variations are in service of it rather than shattering the effect. Sometimes he suddenly throws in something that isn't even the same swing as what's established, like the little kick drum/bass hiccup in Bullshit, but it's used sparingly and serves to throw you back into the established groove, a brief contrast so the dopamine hits again.
@@iampetey1212 My point was that was never my point, you're the one who seems to be demonstrating a lack of comprehension in regards to simple discussion of music if it's not clear what I've been saying from the start. ''Loop'' doesn't just mean what it means in your corner, it's used in music in general, not just sampling, hell, it's a common word with a definition that existed before any of this. I thought writing ''loop/repeat'' would make it pretty obvious but I guess you feel compelled to have a point, or whatever weird shit you were saying.
@@iampetey1212 Nah you're acting like a know-it-all that just has to step in with ''corrections'' to things that were never even said, with a very thick skull too, you still don't seem to grasp any of what was said. I wasn't even talking about the process, just the result, do you even read? Are you THIS commited to misunderstanding basic english? I was the one being polite until you just got that little bit too insufferable. Also, why assume I don't make music? Do you even have an IQ? Does it even register on the scale? And save me that ''lmao offended much xD'' shit, you're just being called out for being ''that guy''.
Dope Dilla face sticker on my back windshield rollin' around Detroit showing respect like I'm spose to. Dilla will always be Motown's finest! R.I.Beats.
This dude was sick when it came to the drums alone, whether he programmed it, or he played with hands manually, the dude was super dope! My man was a musical mad man/genius!!!!!!!!! #DillaLives
