2020 is the time we need a J Dilla documentary that tells the world how important J Dilla was to music. This is great, but it’s time everyone knows how much this man has influenced popular music.
The man literally created a subgenre of hip-hop that can be heard in everything from neo-soul to trap inspired music of today. He went beyond just being a hip-hop producer on so many levels. He was, is and always be my biggest musical inspiration of all time.

+HowToMakeBeats She was (and still is) always extremely proud of his work. Ma Dukes has to be one of the most amazing mothers out there, and to see how supportive she is of everything her son did and the greatness he achieved is really touching.
Dilla was definitely sent on this earth to make music. When he left, it was devastating. But the music he made before his passing is golden. I know he making music with god. RIP Dilla

I remember when I first saw that picture of Dilla in a hospital bed with a MPC cradled in his arm. They say a picture is worth 1,000 words. With that being said, when I looked at that picture,I was able to see a glimpse of his spirit and character. He had a lot of depth. Rest Easy Dilla!
Eh J dilla wasn't that great of a rapper. But he is arguably the GOAT producer and really only two other people hold a candle to his beats, 9th wonder and dre
J dilla crosses so many genres ..he has such a profound impact on the masses. Was flawed to see my osteo, a 71 year old dude and huge jazz aficionado express his appreciation and love of J dilla, the millennial's play his tunes too. I truly don't think many can still pull that shit to this day. huge respect to his devotion to music. genius
Nearly 18 years after his transition and his music is still an ongoing soundtrack of my life. "Glamour Sho75" is my alarm clock ringtone. "Waves" is my phone ringtone. "Purple" and the Zikomo remix of Purple are my go to when I just need to get my head right. Welcome to Detroit with Slum Village, Donuts, Ruff Draft, The Shining, his classic work on "Like Water For Chocolate" and so many others stay in heavy rotation. Dilla 4 Life!
When Houseshoes says: "What can you do in 15 minutes? Huh? Find a fuckin sample? Beat is done, and it's the best shit, you've ever heard in your life." So strong and truly sentence.. And it realy proves my point, that J Dilla was genius of his era. R.I.P. J Dilla. You're still here with us, cause of your music.

Everytime I see something like this in-depth about Dilla, I get that inspiration to get behind the board and go hard. One of the most enigmatic producers of all time, he spoke with his music. Dude is still speaking to this day, through his music and influence. That's making a mark on the world that can't be replaced. Rock on, J Dilla... RIP
I love Pete Rocks commentary Pete Rock the "master" had to become the "student" and he himself became a better producers. This is what happens when the old and new generation bridge the GAP!!
Thank The Most High that I have the ability to hear and feel the music. I never had the honor of meeting the brotha, I sometimes find myself at his grave with the MPC Live making beats. Now my children know who he is and they make beats now and you can hear Dilla’s influence in their sound, as long as we keep the new generation knowing about Dilla, the music and Dilla will never die.
Questlove is so articulate w what J Dilla’s tempo and nuance to beatmaking felt like.. and his eclectic range. Psyched to see the documentary that’s in the works by him and black thought.
When i first got to know who Dilla was i was impressed by how i could be roaming through youtube and i would find a new beat from dilla never heard before, and to this day i keep finding new stuff from him, that is the definition of Timeless
Ya fr tho .. i heard someone bought a random storage unit , n it was previously owned by JD n had a bunch of blank cassette tapes that JD recorded throw away beats on
I'd do anything for someone to find the original live performance off 20:37 The energy shown through Climax there is something unreal man, Dilla's the greatest. #DillaForeva
How strange is it that he passed at the same age as Bruce Lee and was born only one year after Bruce passed, it's like great geniuses have a limited time to shine for us all. R.I.P
Maximum Respect going out to J. Dilla's Mother "Ma Dukes" DeLaSolarSystem and all others that were involved in the making of this Documentary!!... BlessUp J Dilla Shine on WordUp! Peace LoveUniversal N Blessings Infinite from Canada...Salute!
Some moms dont care about their kids .. some moms just care about going to club n getting buzzed n being naughty ... but its cool that JD made his mom proud , doing what he loves to do
thanks for making this b kyle! I was moved and felt the love from all of his friends and family. there will never be another like him..the greatest ever! the feel and the vibe that his records have is still here for us all to embrace.
It's truly my pleasure Fam. I'm honored to be responsible for having people get a clear understanding of the man behind the music. I did this for free. I did this for his supporters. I did this for his legacy. I did this for Dilla.

Dilla’s beats are G.O.D on vinyl. It’s literally the boom-bap rhythm of my soul. Makes me want to be great. Doin’ me. #musicheals #MŪZïQRx™ #bipolarlife *Do you.* _J. Dilla._
I love this Brother J Dilla. Truly, an inspiration and visionary. He is truly belongs to the class of pioneers of Hip-Hop. R.I.P. J Dilla. You live on in the rhythms that you have created.
ms yancey, your son was one of the most influential artists in music,period..he embodied the true essence of hip hop and the only thing that overshadowed his intellectually eclectic fused creativity was his uncompromised ingenuity...his production was timeless and he had a great passion for life..he is sadly missed and his music will always uplift the masses..his musical expression empowers people and it keeps his legacy alive, no doubt...GOD BLESS!
the only that sucks about dilla, well its not really about him, but it makes you realize (if you are a musician or aspiring) how much ahead of you he was and how high that ceiling is. It kind of depresses me.
+Tyler Durden "I, painting from myself and to myself, Know what I do, am unmoved by men's blame Or their praise either. Somebody remarks Morello's outline there is wrongly traced, His hue mistaken; what of that? or else, Rightly traced and well ordered; what of that? Speak as they please, what does the mountain care? Ah, but a man's reach should exceed his grasp, Or what's a heaven for? All is silver-grey, Placid and perfect with my art: the worse! "
Tyler Durden its something about knowning your timetable is short. He knew because of his illness that he wouldnt live long. And so much like pac, he dedicated his whole life to what he loved which is music. He wanted to leave the world something to remember him by. And so he studied and practiced relentlessly giving all that he had.. You really think about it thats how we should live anyway. Tomorrow isnt promised you lets give today all we got. Can you imagine if more producers had the mindset dilla did....man
Ralph Munderson and see this is where i part on that, everyone is exceptional in their own way. Hust a matter of where your heart is. Everyone wants to be exception or rather extrordinary, but there a price that comes with that that unfortunately everyone doesnt want to pay. I agree that is life, but it doesnt have to be reality.
Everything that's been said here, i felt every bit of it. i discovered J Dilla's music about a year ago and man, above every other artist, musician, producer or whatever. J has something special that popped out at me like, in my face but soo subtle. its like nothing can top it for me.. J is by far. the best producer i have ever come across, and probably ever will. SO much soul in the beats.. dude knew his destiny.
I love this because it has Dilla in it speaking and working. All other videos I have watched only have photos. Great to see a true master do his thing.
On the real, I stay on Spotify...I always find instrumentals for my rhymes and poems...I was listening to this "J.Dilla", I am from California so I may have been under a rock when he was on this planet. I seen this documentary today and had to leave a comment. I listen to his beats all the time....sometimes I can't even flow because the beat is too soulful....I was truly sad to find out this was more of a memorial than a documentary. As far as I was concerned, he was still here...but to see this video...it is good to know that his music is here. Hopefully I am in a position to give recognition to his music if ever I am in front of an audience.....RIP J.Dilla
This documentary never gets old. It's as timeless as the man himself. I love re watching it, seeing common, quest , tip, bilial, dwele, Pete rock! Say all those kind words about dilla. I usually go from here to phife dogs dear dilla, then finish off with the ma dukes orchestra clips. That's my dilla tour down you tube Avenue. RIP my man. You changed the game 15 mins at a time EDIT at 18:57. quest explains one of the dopest Dilla did

funny all the comments wanting a movie or newer doc. i really strongly feel the music speaks for itself ... a movie isn't needed, just put fantastic vol 2 on and get transported and you get everything dilla was about and more ... look at all those heads rocking at his wake at the end, priceless. cool doc here, some really intimate interviews with people who knew him deeply. nice one.
