I have seen over 100 acts and they are top 5 live - no question -- Peter Wolf can outjagger Jagger! All are masters of their instuments... is you are sitting at JGeils concert, it's because you have passed out before concert started🙃 "Serves' maybe my fav JG song - it just does a number on my internal organs like every damn time! Greetings from Canada, eh!!! Yes Sir, I was there, Cinderella Ballroom, Detroit Michigan, oh so long ago!! J. Geils Band, one of my alltime favourites, been too many many many shows, never disappointed. Hope you listened to "Whammer Jammer", one of the all time greatest "roll down you car window and turn the stereo all the way up" songs. J. Geils band unique where the harmonica player "Magic DIck" was the lead instrument, while, J. Geils on guitar played mostly rhythm. Peter Wolf is the lead singer, who has had some success on his own.

Seeing the great Peter Wolf (lead singer) this Friday night. He has a great new band called the Midnight Travelers. You really need to listen to Love Itis, Homework and First I Look at the Purse. There’s a great live performance you can watch on You Tube circa 1979 of them performing. Nothing like seeing them live in their prime.

I worked for The J. Geils Band from 1972 -1977 . I grew up in North Cambridge, Ma. in the projects right down the street from where they rehearsed. I was already working at "The Music Complex" when they began booking studio time. I had been helping out "Aerosmith", and later on "Boston". Let me tell you something, that was one kick-ass rock and roll band, for certain! There weren't many bands that could hold their own with those guys on stage. Easily one of the best live rock acts ever. Only Springsteen's "E Street Band" could compare with the sheer energy, talent and power of Wolf and company. The only thing that Geils didn't do was play live for three and a half hours like The Boss and his boys. But you've got to remember something, times were very different back then. J. Geils rarely got an entire show to themselves. The began by opening up for such acts as The Allman Brothers Band, Johnny Winter, B.B. King, The Byrds etc. I do remember one of the very first shows they headlined. It was at Boston Garden in 1971 or 1972, I can't remember which. The band that opened for them was "Duke And The Drivers", another great Boston rock and blues band. Anyway, I carried their equipment, helped set up the stage the way Peter Wolf and Magic Dick liked it, took care of their drink orders and so on. In the confines of the studio back in Cambridge, that's where they really went to work. Just relentlessly and tirelessly ripping through number after number, track after track until they got it right. One of the things that has bothered me for many years, is why they haven't been inducted into the rock & roll hall of fame. It just makes no sense whatsoever. Especially when you see acts like the Beastie Boys & Tupac in there. Seruously folks? Two acts that have absolutely nothing to do with rock music, or any kind of music in my mind. Anyway, what can you do? Not very much. It's the same story with great bands like "Foreigner" "Kansas" and many many more. Maybe one day the hall of shame will realize that Geils should have gotten in years ago. They've already been nominated five previous times. Even if that day ever comes, sadly the founding member of the band won't be there to say thank you folks. J. Geils, "John Warren Geils", passed away at home in 2017. He left a legacy of amazing music and great, underrated guitar work. They were all extremely nice men. Not without their faults, just like you and I. They weren't all from Boston, but once they arrived, they called it home. Most people think that their best period of music was the 1980's, when they struck it big with hits like "Centerfold" and "Love Stinks". Personally, I hated both songs. That's not who they really were. Their best music was made from 1970 to 1977 in my opinion. "The J. Geils Band" in 1970 to one of my favorites, " Monkey Island" in 1977 when they dropped the "J " and just used "Geils" as their name. Peace everyone...RIP John. One last thing: You never hear anyone talk about the album cover. I remember the guys saying if they thought anybody would even notice. And they were absolutely right! To this day I still don't think people get the joke. What I'm referring to is the name of the album, "Full House". Now, anybody who plays poker knows that a full house is three of the same card, plus two of the same card. Now, check out the cover of the albun.....

You are very perceptive picking up on the great musicianship of the keyboard player. Seth Justman, keyboards, was amazing to see with J Geils Band in concert. Seth would have two keyboards on opposite sides and he would play one and then the other and he had a mirror on one of his keyboards. He later assumed a major role in their songwriting and production and really had a lot to do with J Geils having a number one album "Freeze Frame" that spent 4 weeks at #1 and #1 single "Centerfold" that spent 6 weeks at #1.

Growing up in Maine they were legends before making it big and still doing gigs at greaser bars. Peter Wolf had a genuine love for 50's R&R and they would dig up and do forgotten gems by people like Zelda Samuels. Then he got married to Faye Dunaway. Why not, he had paid his dues. Stephen Jo Bladd, the tightest drummer since Pretty Purdie. Magic Dick, one of a kind. J himself was pretty restrained but when he tore lose with a solo it was devastating. Saw them many times, always a party
