Good to see you! So, I'm walking into the hotel, on my normal way. I had a client that day, and was going to set up the room. There is some seating near the steps that lead to the Wellness space of the Hotel. I pass this multiple times a week! I'm about to go up the steps, and look over and see this Man sitting. He looked like Poet....... But we're in D.C. this Man Poet is in the UK? - my brain wasn't registering that it was him sitting there! Haha. Especially because I was listening to the pod on the way there. I asked if it's him, he said Yes, and All I could say was "I'm so sorry to interrupt, but I LOVE YOU!!!!" Haha. He very graciously stood up and gave me a hug. He was on the phone so I didn't want to take too much of his time but on my way up the stairs I had to let him know how much I love what his presence adds to the podcast! Always contributing an interesting view point Poet and Chuckie both seem like good peoples. I respect their character 👌🏽 I don't deal with a lot of "content" these days but genuinely love this podcast. It is a comfort to me. Not too serious but still thoughtful and engaging. Plus, I love seeing friends interact and reason. Anyway, alignment.❤
What poet is saying about dele alli is so true. However, we as people don’t realise even if we’re around friends 5-6 days a week that some people are simply very good at hiding things and suppressing it. If I don’t want a friend to know about something, no matter how close we are , they’ll never find out unless I tell them
I'm glad that Chuckie has been able to articulate a constructive criticism about Hus in a way that most people can't/won't. He doesn't show much personal growth in his music. His bars are cold, the afroswing songs are a vibe, he can do dance tunes and road tunes but you could have someone who doesn't know him listen to common sense, big conspiracy, and baby out of order and you wouldn't know which one happened first, which was beforeband after jail. All the guys he gets put in convo alongside or gets placed above as the "GOAT" do that. Dave was showing growth and insight from day one and you still saw/heard the difference between psychodrama and waaitt. Stormzy is 3 albums in and you can tell the changes and stages he's been through in life. Kano, Ghetts, Giggs, all these men show their growth. But at big 27 years old we're saying Hus hasn't lived enough or processed his experiences enough to give you one song that's on topic about his life? We're not asking for Drake end of album confessional type cuts. But if he's gonna be mentioned with the greats he's got to be held to the same standard as the greats. And it doesn't seem like too many people can do that. And it deffo wouldn't have happened with Mitch or Mimi on this episode cuz all they would've had to say is that he's the king he's the GOAT without articulating how or why.
I feel like that's his personality though and he's still 26 we might see some growth but I don't know. even to now he still awkward when doing interviews
@@Apman99 yeah and that's fine. Not everyone has to be good at everything. He can still be a really good artist and be a lot of people's favourite. But if we're gonna say he's the best out the UK now, there are criteria and parameters, and we need to be able to have honest conversations about how he stacks up against his peers and his elders within these parameters. And music is a subjective thing at the end of the day so we don't have to agree, but we have to try and keep the convo honest.
To be honest JHus has been mentioned as a goat since his first album because of its high quality and his versatility especially in comparison to other UK artists an i dont think thats changed tbh. Hes definitely not perfect in terms of subject matter, but i feel like maybe this album hes been away for quite a while an he might have needed to produce alot of commercial bangers for his label. An i think he did that, comparing him to people like Kano etc is maybe a bit unrealistic as these guys are in their 40s.Someone like Dave is a lyricist, Hus can spit like that but hes a bit more diverse he just makes fun tunes really. How many classic albums do those greats you mentioned have?
I believe this is why Jae5 and Hus had creative differences during this project. I remember Jae5 saying on this very same pod, he doesn't want to be apart of it if Hus isn't talking about anything deeply as he's currently in that space of making meaningful songs rather than Party bangers. Hus still went 3 for 3 in my eyes
dave gets praised for his storytelling but he goes off topic a lot as well. knucks is one of the best in the scene at sticking to the theme throughout the entire song
35:07 because you haven’t listened to the album properly. Alien girl is a whole song staying on topic and he even references his ‘alien girl’ on the song My Baby. Bim Bim another whole song staying on topic bar, 1bar. This album is J Hus reflecting and understanding himself. He’s telling us what he’s about GYAL & GANG SHIT. He loves uss so much he’s a ussnaholic, he’s saying this is who I am. Even the name of the album, he’s saying where he’s from is fucked, it’s brutal but he loves it cos that where he grew, that’s what made him who he is, so it’s beautiful.
They want him to be like Dave so bad it’s weird. They’re two different artists and bring something different to the industry. J hus is more versatile and unique rapper. Dave has deep lyrics but same delivery, story telling is his thing that doesn’t mean J hus has to be the same
Laurie Cunningham, (born March 8, 1956, London, England-died July 15, 1989, Madrid, Spain), professional football (soccer) player. In 1977 Cunningham joined West Bromwich Albion as a forward/striker. Albion featured two other players of African descent, Brendan Batson and Cyrille Regis, and the three of them were known as the “Three Degrees.
Chuckie idk if you'll see this but you missed it completely. The album title is beautiful and brutal yard. He INTENTIONALLY switches back and forth between gyal and grease and even singing grease on a sweet Ting. That's where you can have the music convo. He literally put out a video on insta before it dropped saying it was gonna be a mix of the two. And you're upset that you didn't get what he didn't wanna give. Closed doors, deeper than rap, reckless, all tunes from old albums where he's on topic but i feel like you heard what jae5 said and didn't wanna see any different subconsciously. Stay blessed
On the album i was hoping j hus would speak on whatever enlightenment/spirirtual process he went through cause he clearly went through something based on his social media behavior the last few years
What enlightenment? Bro is playing with juj & knows he’d alienate a large amount of supporters if he really showed ALL of that, hence why he keeps the music superficial & people out of his real life.
@@iffysd9864 When someone tries to tell u who they are, believe them the first time. Dude says he finds pleasure in murder. Like cmon. He’s definitely down with another spirit whether u want to admit it or not.
Can't be king of drill when hes sitting in a box for the next two decades because of his own moronic actions - don't sound like much of a king to me xD
What you need to inner-stand about artists. Is they create art. You can place them in categories with the type of art they create but ultimately what ends up happening is everyone who views the art will form their opinions from their perspective
Poet is having an absolute stinker with that Future situation. Stop being so pro-Future just bc you like his music. Future doesnt even see his own son, despite being offered multiple chances to do so. Ciara has stayed mute all of these years despite Future dragging her in the media. Its a simple fact. So Future has no place to diss Russel unless he plans on stepping up to be an actual father to that boy. Plain & simple.
Jhus is a big man stuck in a youths body his music have not grown 3 albums in and he is still rapping about the same old bullshit and party anthems. No doubt he is capable of making a mature album . It’s just about money an album every couple of years then a tour to maintain his bank balance.
The album was good but i def feel like it needed to be more compact. I feel like instead of having 3-4 songs on the same topic he could have chosen the best ones or even just been more purposeful with the choice. I feel like that alone would sky rocket the quality of the project
I’m half way through watching this and my point to your debate is in the name of the album and that’s how he lays down his lyrics beautiful and brutal he talks about a beautiful woman on the other hand brutal things are happening In life which is ugly
I agree with Chuckie regarding a track with more depth, it was kind of showcased on Deeper Than Rap but more of those tracks would be appreciated. The intro on the album I thought he was going to be it after rapping about being rushed in jail etc but it was still very surface level
23:50 Facts Chuckie. I don't think JHus can be considered world class until he can tell a story in his music aka Nas and JCole. When he does manage to put a story together in a song, it will be a classic.
Let’s be honest, this album doesn’t hit like his previous 2…let’s see who’s listening in a month, now that could come back to bite me, but we’ll see. So much recency bias and I’m not saying it’s not a good body of work, but Atleast sit with it. not talking about poet and chuckie but on Twitter people literally calling the album a classic within 12 hours
@@iffysd9864 Wdym none of them? Dave deffo has replay value, hence why he is more streamed than Hus & more people support him globally than Hus whose much more stuck to the UK & a few parts of Africa.
@meep4198 his numbers has nothing to do with replay value he has the machine behind him. Hus has to grind for years for a drake feature. Dave got it so early on in his career like industry plants do
@@meep4198Dave hasnt been away for 3 years an Dave just did an EP with the biggest rapper the UK has seen in a while( Central). So thats a bit of a strange comment
@@iffysd9864 Stop the cap. Hus has the same machine behind him. Hes lucky he even does considering how much legal trouble he gets in, which is a huge liability for record labels & management companies/“the machine” but even still, they came through for him. Don’t be mad that Dave was smart enough to steer clear from trouble as soon as his ting started taking off, so the machine was able to get onboard with him earlier.
Bro you need to change the settings for your account. It won’t allow me to turn on notifications because it says that the function is disabled because your content is for suitable for children?
26:43 why do people insist on rappers in the scene needing to have “a deeper meaning” in there in there songs or need to “take something away from listening to a song” not every artist has to be woke and for the black uplifting ting. How can you be looking towards a UK rapper to provide you this, why not get that from a book or one of them instagram woke pages or a pastor or something, j hus came up off of saying bars talking about not being able to share his zoot with pum pum eaters and dissing his opps why on earth would you wanna hear something deep and meaningful from that guy? J hus has been the hardest artist from when he first landed and he remained the hardest because he has not changed from what made him hard in the first place (not giving a toss on tracks and making catchy hits effortlessly). The guy went to do a big big colours freestyle with no trim and a tracky but it’s him you look too for Akala style deeper meanings in rap alloww it mann, it’s not everyday Rosa park rappers, sometimes catchy hits good wordplay and small small diss opp and bounce man.
The critique that Chuckie has about J Hus is the same reason I can't put Lil Wayne in the conversation with Jay-Z and a couple others ...Wayne was my favorite for years ...but truth be told he rhymes elite but doesn't really say shit ..you won't learn a thing listening ...alot of rappers these days (excluding UK rappers I'm from Canada ..y'all really rhyme) can never stick to a topic ...I think the fact that alot don't write anymore plays a huge part
@benja303 my point. Chuck just a dude and poet. I like them an watch. But they just boffins talking road stuff and rap. But really they no opinion for me on j hus. I don't even like j hus either lol
When it comes to Hus, there’s a lot of bum licking. What Chuckie is saying is so true. The only thing J Hus is good at doing is making bangers. When it comes to skill and honesty in music, there’s other people who do it way better
J Hus’s skill level is very high imo. It’s just a consistent story where he could improve, but he has done that before (Daily Duppys, Deeper than Rap, Closed Doors etc) so hoping he includes more of it while he grows as an artist
The problem with J Hus is that his fans have aged whilst he's talking wicked and bad most of his fans are now working 9-5 either at uni or moved on with there life. Same thing happened to chip
Nah this guy is getting disrespectful now. What if Hus doesn’t want to share his private life with us on a song. The album is more viby, enjoy it & forget about this bullshit 😏
