J. Krishnamurti - Ojai 1982 - Discussion with Scientists 1 - Roots of psychological disorder
Summary:
Q: What is the source of psychological disorder?
Is not the self the beginning of all disorder?
I have created society through my anxiety, through my desire for security, through my desire to have power. Like the animal. It's biologically inherited. Also my own individualistic activity has created this society. Is it possible to be free of my conditioning?
If my relationship with life is not "right" how can I find out something that's immensely beyond all this, beyond time, beyond thought, beyond measure?
Will knowledge transform me?
Is there a deep, abiding security?

This channel is managed by the Krishnamurti Foundation Trust, UK, and by the Krishnamurti Foundation of America.
The role of the foundations was described by Krishnamurti when he said, 'The foundations will see to it that these teachings are kept whole, are not distorted, are not made corrupt. They will not give rise to any sectarian spirit in their activities... nor create any kind of place of worship around the teachings or the person.'
We maintain extensive archives of Krishnamurti's original works and all four Krishnamurti foundations are actively engaged in the publication of material in various forms.
Our videos contain thousands of subtitles in more than 25 languages, translated by volunteers from all over the world. If you would like to help us with translating subtitles, please contact us at digital@kfoundation.org

Ya Red so true. I do not want to take anything away from the importance of the topics, but I found myself simply enjoying seeing people sitting together, having a discussion. Not with the purpose of “winning” the discussion or be proven right. Simply for the purpose of searching for an answer to a problem for the benefit of all.

Answer is in their discussion only That people become more self centered as they don't even what to listen others opinions completely beyond reality People thinking their observations, experiences, opinions, are more important than the reality It's completely self centered individualistic way of life as jk said in discussion And one important thing is people are not adaptive they want to be stubborn

I never went to university, and so I've never gotten to experience dialogue, debate such as this. How wonderful to know that people can truly LISTEN to one another, and out of mutual respect, want to learn the Truth of a thing, rather than push a personal belief. I had a very fine qigong teacher who used to tell us that no one person, no matter how learned or studied, could ever know the Totality, or total Truth of a thing - that our perception of a thing can only ever be a very small part of the whole, seen through the lens of our particular upbringing, education, conditioning, etc. I get the sense that Krishnamurti is leading these learned men to find a deeper truth, without stating it, by asking questions, by helping them come to the answer themselves... My personal feeling is that egoism is the cause of so many of the terrible things happening on this planet. And I DO believe it is possible to change this aspect of ourselves, though it must surely be the most painfully difficult thing one could ever endeavour to do...

This is such a fascinating discussion and shows how psychology, biology and science are now discovering the truth of Krishnamurti’s position. Epigenetics now shows we can change our biological conditioning. Techniques like ACT and mindfulness in Psychology are teaching patients to recognize they exist as more than just a collection of thoughts, feelings and conditioning. And quantum physics is proving more and more that one’s so called reality is not as real as we ‘think.’ Considering how far our species has evolved technologically and otherwise, it’s imperative humanity recognize the truth shared by masters and mystics over millennia. Unless we come to know Ourselves, we’ll destroy ourselves. It’s time!

@@joeh858 Maybe it's just our own brain and habits that categorize knowledge for easy storage. Measuring units, religions, color, ethnicities. I read about this a lil while back and it's very well said. We categorize stuff to store the knowledge for easier access, and time seems to fit in such category. @Aek That's a whole other hour+ worth of conversation. I left school at 17, not sure if due to influence of the knowledge I gained, my personality/genes or a bit of both. But always looked at school, society and most groups in general as sheep. I know it sounds kinda arrogant, but I'm an open minded kid. My simple view of today: Education is like an industry, never teaching you how to lead or find your way, but instead follow others. You spend how many years the government thinks you need to work in order to get 'retired', only for most of us to get there without cash, with body and/or mind all fuked up, and without having enjoyed shxt. You get the conditions you feel like are sufficient to reproduce, just like animals, without even realizing it (income, home (habitat) and what most see as stability: a job), with the number of offspring depending on income and ambience (countries, imo), but that doesn't mean you're living as supposed or could.

This is a conversation between a guru, probably in early-stage dementia, having difficulty with either/or thinking, irritating the hell out of an intelligent psychologist who can’t quite wrap his head around the evasive and generalized statements he’s hearing. And Rupert Sheldrake being brilliant, wishing he’d eaten some LSD beforehand. In seriousness, I’m not sure why anyone thought Krishnamurti was an original or coherent thinker, teacher, or spiritual guru. I’ve studied eastern philosophy for decades, practiced psychotherapy for as long. He seems to enjoy hearing himself talk, and refuses to listen what might be helpful ways of looking at things by people who have their own experiences and their own competence in their field.

it's still not clear how can an individual explore and figure out without any help from a specialist. I have heard few of Krishnamurthy's talks. He has stressed upon the fact that an individual need not require a guru or a teacher. even if we consider individualism a theoretical , relative concept , it still does not provide sufficient emphasis on how the self indulgence can explore reality. There is a purpose as to why I am myself and not you (vice versa). if there was no individualism there would have been no purpose of the theoretical self.

If we feel it we will be able to get an order in our lives (this is my conclusion after watching this excellent video) when we have order we can help others to have it too 😊sorry for my English grammar 😌

I like what JK is saying about how we are society, we are the world. We create society, we create conditioning. If we want to change the world we just have to change ourselves. I've recently been thinking if I can change my attitude I can change the world. Everything starts out as an idea before it becomes a thing. Think about anything you can see in the world, it all started as an idea. If we start with this idea that we can be free of problems, it's the only way to start a world in which that is possible. Once an idea enters our consciousness it becomes a possibility. This is why people think they manifest things, because it's the natural process of becomming.

It is reassuring to see here that even when the scientists/psychologists exchange sceptical glances because of something that Krishnamurti said, they maintain mutual respect and return with a differently probing question, rather than giving way to indignation and so polluting the sanctity of the dialogue. I also found it refreshing that through a group effort, the dialogue is kept from straying away from the very essence of enquiry into a discussion of religious and social dogmas, which would've benefited no one.

There is no way to change it but their is also in humans the urge to do so just like genes work. If we create humans in a laboratorium only then can it change. But when it is changed then their is forgetting about what is changed again. Like Buddha's said life is suffering suffering is life. When my body shut down and I almost died I saw life in me not wanting to end and don't stop taking breath. But my concussions wanted to stop my suffering by ending me. So if I had stopped suffering I would have ended. So now I am suffering but I am experiencing life. Even dho I asked my surroundings to end my suffering. But in order to do so the psychologist have to end me which will make them suffer. And even if I say I don't want to be a selfish person that is kept alive is a form of selfishness. So here is an advice of a dying man. Cherish every moment you have with others.

This is why all debate (especially on tv) is mostly a waste of time. The whole process is infected by peoples own egotistical purposes ( eg to be the winner, to make others fail, to be undiscovered/save face, to be admired, impress, belong etc etc). until we see our own conditioning and how we work, how can we trust what we say and our motives. Annoying because Krishnamurthy keeps changing the premises off the discussion so he can keep control of it. A real inquirer would allow others to complete their thoughts and arguments. Wow wow wow first of all look at the gentlemen discussing despite having extreme different views - that is so incredible! This is how we need to be as humans - accepting and tolerating others. In our world today everybody acts like a God - I am right, we are right - you are wrong, they are wrong! There is no such thing as right or wrong. We humans with limited intellects can only seek to understand first with our minds. So discussing without egoistically attaching to what is right. We are trying to evolve as humans so that we can live up to our potential and become what we could be. All the politicians and media people should educate themselves first on how to hold discussions that we come to a better understanding of all things (if not the truth of all) and debates who´s right and who´s wrong, to build a better world by building better relationships with each other (even if it is on a superficial level) and not putting out your views on public platforms criticizing your own fellow beings (many gossiping videos are still around turning humans into commodities for entertainment). Looking at today´s media and youtube and online world so much negativity is being spread, so much divisiveness - me and you, they and them - all this rubbish! Hope the world starts watching and listening to wise people like these gentlemen. Not to agree but to be more civilized. Not to argue but to love more regardless of our individual views and understanding of things! As humans we should be honest, authentic, real with ourselves first and seek to go deep within before trying to find fault with the world. That is J. Krishnamurti´s point - do not separate yourself - you and the world is one. I am the world and I am the humanity. What you do to others, you are doing to yourself. What you do in the world, you are doing to yourself. Solution should be holistic and for all rather than individual solutions which are furthering the problem and creating even more deep-rooted divisiveness.

That might be true, but then again, what can anyone who is living claim to know about death, we don’t even know the nature of our manifest being, therefore in conclusion I see security as such , by simply being the process and the process being through itself. There is neither positive nor negative, right nor wrong, good nor evil, for when all happenings are meditated upon at their ultimate source of emergence, their absolute nature most enigmatic and elusive to discovery is predetermined. That is there can not be an ego or separate will in any organism because they are influenced by the same natural processes of predetermination. Wherefore even the accusation of one having a ego is also nonsensical in the sense that it is truly that predetermined process selfsame. When one by grace truly understands this not expecting anything marvelous or excitingly different to occur, one is enlightened to the truth. Whereby all humans are as puppets, and what we think, speak and do is our script. All of the world around is as the stage, the source of all our being is the same one causing the puppet to do what it does and is the cause for the process called play or life. Wars, disease, crime, religion, social institutions and their processes our relationship with family , friends, spouse or loved ones, all are our script or what the Buddhists would call Karma. Yet all of these experiences, they have a common relation and that is they are integrated through the senses in which the through our sensory functions we involuntarily manifest the stage and the script into being. Our bodies naturally know the script and it is programmed in us this is through genetics and DNA. But it is through the body’s of each organism where the process or God communicates it’s will or script through. To understand this you must refresh your mind of what you thought life to be, when a actor plays a villain is it a wrong role or right one, it’s none it’s just the script , when actor plays a hero it is neither a good role or bad role it’s just the script. Likewise, life is neither good nor evil, right nor wrong, hard nor easy, fair nor unfair. Life is simply your script.

Pain and consciousness are two similar things. No consciousness = no pain. The more pain, the deeper you can develop your consciousness. You can become a habitual artist and refine your craft in such a way that it becomes automatic. All your moves will become routines. You become a machine Great art can be made thus. You can also become a machine that is broken. Great pain. There never will be routines. Everything you look at you will see as if you saw it for the first time. If you can grasp that in your art, great art can be made thus. Pain or no pain, it doesn't matter; when you're dead the pain will be gone. Spirit is illusion. All you have is the 'body', it is the substrate that makes up your world. It tells lies and illusions rise from it. Once you see through those lies, a great pain will fall upon you.
