Is this from the Metropolitan opera broadcast 1967. I had a copy that was a half tone low in pitch. This sounds correct. The sound is so clear. Which source did you use? McCracken owned this role. Caballe is gorgeous as usual.
JMcC sang the role nearly twice as much @ the Met than JV; & in total career perf’s, over 560x vs approx 118 for Vickers (that’s according to Vickers Bio); so whatever one’s preference, it’s still clear who sang it far more frequently ⚖️ JMcC was quite demonstrably uniquely suited to all of O’s colossally demanding requirements for nearly 30 yrs via constantly giving his all in it 🎶🎭
@@johnlshortt606It is because V sang lots of others as his main including Wagner, while someone got stuck with Otello and some others. McC is very tiring to the listeners with barking even in this delicate part.
@@grr8048 Couldn’t disagree more & in fact found exactly the opposite via the many times saw/heard them - both in Acting & Singing 🎶🎭 + JMcC had terrific high notes, something Mr. V could never offer…
