Danish marimbist Anders Elten performs Jean-Philippe Rameau's "Gavotte et Six Doubles" in a new adaption for solo marimba.
J. P. Rameau's famous masterpiece "Gavotte et Six Doubles", originally composed for the harpsichord, presents a formidable technical challenge when adapted to the marimba. With its intricate ornamentation, fast single line runs, complex polyphonic parts and rapid one-handed arpeggios, it is certainly not a walk in the park - however, the musical matter, perhaps surprisingly, lends itself very naturally to the sound universe of the modern concert marimba.
