I've watched and listened to this multiple times now. I used to attempt to play this suite on guitar, I believe a Julian Bream transcription or something similar to it. I don't believe that the guitar is equal to any Baroque lute pieces, because it doesn't have the resonance and range, and in any event, most guitarists can't manage the tempi. so most guitar guitar performances are full of gratuitous "rubatos", because the structure of the music and the guitar fingerboard simply aren't equal to it. Most importantly, though, I've heard a lot of Baroque performances, because I like them very much, and Ms. Mascardi is an absolutely unequalled master. She sacrifices nothing, whether emotion or tempi. She is truly a magnificent lutenist. A generational master musician.
Bach è (non era, è e sarà) un genio; per interpretarlo bene bisogna essere molto bravi. Complimenti sinceri, signora Evengelina; lei e Bach aprite il cuore e l'anima.
Please everyone, purchase Evangelina's CDs. The more CDs sold the more she will be promoted by the label and the industry. Good for her and good for us. Thank You All and Thank You Evangelina.
There is simply no one better at playing Lute than you. And the fact the world can see this on YT is almost unfathomable when you think of how few people in the far distant past could see amazing musicians play live as we can with your work. Bravo!
Although I love my career and the work I do, if I had the chance to start all over again I would want to be a classical musician. Listening to composers like Bach, Beethoven, etc.. puts me in a state of rapture. I can only imagine what a musician is feeling when they play these gorgeous works. ❤
The fact that she is a maestro, and puts out masterpiece after masterpiece does not surprise me. The only thing that would surprise me is if she wore blue. Or even red.
Это чудесно! У нас сегодня с сыном роскошный ужин под музыку Баха! Вы такая красивая и воодушевленно играете, Ваше мастерство вдохновляет! Примите нашу благодарность!
The string is the thing that vibrates Evangelina She loves to play Bach's baroque and rolling scripts producing resonances of highs and lows and fast and slows and stops and gaps for you to fill with a mind that does form and completes the song within you
oh my goodness, so smart so sweet. never in my life have i heard music played with such sincerity and intelligence. i am mesmerized . thank you Evangelina for this gift to the world.
As I also play this suite I like to hear every interpretation I find... This is the first time I heard an interpretation of this magnificent quality! It seems to me that most performers can't really empathize with this wonderful suite even when they seem to be trying, but your musicality and expressiveness really move and fill it with life in a very organic and natural way... Thanks for sharing! 😊✨🙌✨
This is actually Cello Suite 5 transcribed by Bach himself for the lute. The extra notes for the chords emphasise what kind of harmony he had in mind when he wrote it for the cello (which he himself probably first played on viola).
Oh, that was beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing your gift with us. I have a cold and listening, I forget everything but the music and your virtuosity.
Prof Mascardi. This is simply world-class. I personally play classical guitar and the Baroque guitar feels strange enough already. To play with such a high degree of clarity and accurate is another world altogether to me. I listen to your music to sleep these few days to sleep. Brings me back to the time before technology. I'm glad you are always a few clicks away from me. 🥰😍
I appreciate the moment 4:53 so much, and the performer's expressions seem to suggest they also agree. That's so nice to observe! I don't know if it would properly be called a cadence, as there is no exact ending there. Adorable performance of a beautiful composition, in my humble opinion.
Evangelina you're fantastic. No one makes me understand the flow of the music the way you do, when playing Bach especially. Your level of understanding and interiorization of this music and how you settled all that information into your mind make also your listeners to decipher it in the most delightful way. It is the same effect Glenn Gloud has on many people for the Goldberg Variations.
@@evangelinamascardiofficial4766 I've always thought of the Baroque lute as the cathedral-like "pipe organ" of stringed instruments, because of its range and sonority. But there are difficulties inherent in playing the lute in general, I know. And so, and as I know from a conversation I had years ago with a lutenist, that the instrument is difficult to keep in tune. How did you keep an instrument of such complex construction in tune
It's really remarkable that such a masterful interpretation of great music has relatively few views. Sign of the times. Hope this reaches many more people in the future!
MAYBE I'm wrong but the prelude looks... more difficult to play than others. The chord at 4:53 is it a dissonant inversion or the lute is a bit out of tune? Of all the suites for lute, the prelude of this one is my favourite 😁
working on the first two movements from that piece for almost 2 Months my appreciation for you even increases. The bass-damping technique during the "tres vite" is hard work and I didn't get close to your clarity without disturbing noise. Your technique is really, really perfect! I try to learn as much as I can from this video. Great that it has such a high visual and sound quality as well.
