Draco has a Unicorn wand too. I'd like to hear your thoughts in Draco's wand being Unicorn hair and Unicorn wands being least likely to perform dark magic.
I mean, I don't think we ever see Draco explicitly using dark magic? I'm not done with re-listening to the 7th book, though He tries to use cruciatus once, but in the end, he doesn't finish the curse
You guys were talking about wand woods and cores and it got me thinking... the difference between the movie and the book is that in the book Harry repairs his original wand that has the phoenix feather core before hiding away the Elder Wand, and in the movie he destroys the Elder Wand without fixing his original wand. I've always liked the movie outcome better, but now I'm thinking it makes even more sense. The wand that chose Harry when he was 11 chose him because he had a connection to Voldemort. The phoenix feather cores were matched from Fawkes. By the end of the Deathly Hallows, or at least the Battle of Hogwarts, Harry is no longer connected to Voldemort. Would that original wand even be correct for him anymore? I have a feeling that the one he won from Draco might be the best fit for him at this point.
It's okay, when you said "Scurgio" you were definitely thinking of "Tergeo" which is a spell used to remove liquids like blood and grease, or could be used to clean objects
Erin's right, there's Tergeo which is used for cleaning things. Scourgify is used in the stinksap scene but it seems likely that Tergeo could have been used as it's used on Harry to clean the blood off his face in HBP.
37:24 Regarding Ethan's comment about D&D 5e rules: Refilling a container would more likely come under the Conjuration School of magic as that involves either the creation of material out of thin air or the transportation of something from on place to another. The Transmutation School deals with changing the physical properties of something into something else.
On the Cosforums site, the ship name for Ginny and Neville was HMS SIGNS (Society Introducing Ginny/Neville Shipping). On FictionAlley, the ship name is HMS Flaming Toad. The portmanteau ship name for them is Nevinny. Back before book six came out, I shipped them, because at the time, I shipped Harry with Luna and Ron with Hermione. Btw, the ship name for Neville and Luna is The Government Stole My Toad.
Ethan is my favourite host! I love his sense of humour and the natural flow with the CB 🙃 but of course, i love all of the team ❤ Thank you for your job and for sharing your passion, adding joy to my everyday life 😊
I think you guys were missing how mean the detention Snape gave Neville to disembodied the toads was. Neville loves his toad Trevor and making him disembowel the toads is like making him disembowel Trevor multiple times.
Do you know how sadistic it is to make a student disembowl the same animal that they have a beloved pet as? Like, Snape has to know about Neville and his toad, and what does Snape make him disembowl? Toads.
I don't think there's wandwork in potions. Snape says that many students may not see it as magic at all because there "is no foolish wand waving" in this class. Potions is a superset of alchemy I believe, as it seems to cover alchemical concepts plus neutralizing poisons, creating medicines and restoratives, and creating substances that are clearly alchemical in nature as they transform things, such as felix felicis which grants luck, aging potion, developing potion that allows photos to move, elixir of life, and Voldemort's potion that protected the locket horcrux which resisted transfiguration and vanishing.
Yeah, I think it's magical but completely separate from wand magic. I think that actually goes for most Hogwarts subjects with Charms, Transfiguration and DADA a bit being the only ones focused on wandwork.
To the wand thing with phoenix feather, maybe there should have only been one of those and for Voldemort, because it could be that the Horcrux living inside Harry affected the wand to choose Harry, Right?
"Exceeds Expectations" seems like an odd phrasing for grade since, for example, what they'd expect from Hermione would usually be much higher than Harry or Ron in most subjects. Would a perfect score even be "exceeding expectations" for her?
Cherry? I know he's grown quite a bit even as of book 5, but Cherry doesn't sound right. From Wizarding World ("Olivander's Notes"): The Western wand-purchaser should dispel from their minds any notion that the pink blossom of the living tree makes for a frivolous or merely ornamental wand, for cherry wood often makes a wand that possesses truly lethal power, *whatever the core* , but if teamed with dragon heartstring, the wand ought never to be teamed with a wizard without exceptional self-control and strength of mind. (emphasis added) Granted, the core was unicorn hair, not dragon heeartstring, but still it doesn't seem quite right, even with his character development to that point. Ben's original answer (Ash) made more sense to me. 25:18 Why are we bringing Beast Boy into this?
When I saw the video was 50 minutes long I thought it was another 30 question quiz so when Ben hit us with the “standard 10 questions” i was flabbergasted
JMO J lookin' epic with the stach. Would like to see it as a handlebar. and Thank you I love your shows. Ben I always root for you in the quizzes. sorry J
Utterly tangential thought: can/do witches and wizards modify their wands cosmetically after purchase? It wouldn't change their qualities, presumably, and at least for the films would explain why Tom Riddle got an obvious evil wand.
All the death eaters really. Like, do you mean to tell me all of them just happened to get skull wands when they were 11 and then they had no other choice but turn evil?
Green phoenix? So someone threw copper onto it? Also,Dumbledoor is a last name so Dumbledoor JR wouldn't work. *firstname* Dumbledoor JR would or just *firstname* JR but not Dumbledoor JR without a first name
Did a double-take because I for whatever reason thought of Seamus Gorman instead of Seamus Finnegan. If you guys had a Seamus Gorman clip to work in for the Finnegan moments, bravo! Also waiting for Ethan to release the song "Somethin' About Saturn" with a cameo from Mister Bob.
Someone, please help me understand.. So, when Harry and Voldemort is dueling, this thing usually happens where the magic meets in the middle (don't know what to call it). From my understanding, that only happens because their wands share the same core (phoenix feather). But it also happens in the battle of the 7 Potters even though Voldemort was using Lucious' wand which has a dragon heartstring core. If my understanding is correct, how did it happen in the battle of the 7 Potters?
Don't worry, this fan is so obsessed with your what if Harry was in slytherin videos I've gotten your trivia questions wrong. I remember the books and movies but there are a lot of better changes in your story.
Matthew Lewis deserves a lot of credit for selling Neville's arc. He goes from such a lovable screwup in the first two movies to a complete badass in the last movie. That shot of him cutting Nagini in half may be the most awesome moment in the entire series.
suggestion for a quiz topic: Professors, where questions on any teacher at Hogwarts, past or present, are up for grabs. I know they’ve done a McGonagall and Lockhart quiz, but one on all of them could be interesting 👀
Ben, honestly it really makes me feel uncomfortable when you DON’T put the pen in your mouth when thinking because it’s clear that it’s part of your thinking posture and it makes me feel uncomfortable that you’re adjusting that due to a RU-vid comment.
J missing #1 was like when they both missed that Hagrid was first introduced in "The Boy Who Lived" from that quiz forever ago J going for the Broadway reference made me smile
