It's a fantastic recording! Released on Naxos in November 2016

Fabulous Conductor! Some of these comments are unwarranted. I don't see your ass up there singing it-Dude! I have dealt in opera business all my life and to assemble the 8 Valkyries is a task unto itself! It requires big -solo -top level-level voices-3 sopranos -4 mezzos and a contralto. I agree, 5 harps and watch them go!! Chorus master-IO

I think this is quite marvelous! As Verdi and other composers said, you cannot have ffff if you don't have pppp. There must be a contrast. Solti just blasts away. The Valkyries are quite fine, not shouting, and the differentiation in voice types from contralto to soprano is well-noticed.

Osvaldo Fernández De la Maza Yes, Verdi. What’s your question? Wagner was a great admirer of Italian tradition, especially Bellini. He didn’t write his works to be played with bombast, known today as the Wagner tradition. I think he’d be horrified at the admiration some people have for decibels.

God bless Richard Wagner for the fabulus musical heritage that he gave to humanity. Wagner's leitmotifs touch the heart and awaken the mind. Musicdrama resonates in the diversity of sensation and emerge in the absolute values of justice and beauty. As a Muslim I praise Allah to bless Richard Wagner and allow him in his paradise as one of the best of humankind.

The need for six harps does not reside primarily in these bars. In its 16-hour duration, The Ring, especially in Das Rheingold, the need is clearly shown: the music gains a lot of color, shine and enchantment. Your analysis is limiting.

Where are the helicopters? This piece was written specifically for gunships detonations, flames and explosions. Various warbling sopranos do it no justice at all.

Frankly, bombastic is one thing, but this is played lighter, which i prefer. Better than the lumbering, fat horsey women i often hear portrayed.

@WIDLEY1000 Thank you, I usually get a lot of s**t for my accurate albeit harsh comments. I'm not a troll, just a professional orchestral musician who has difficulty dealing with the fallen standards in my profession, especially singers and screaming into the void is cathartic on some level.

Yes, you only have to listen to the great recordings to know that this music should be SUNG, not shrieked the way it is here. Sadly this is what Wagnerian singing has become.

This Walkure recording got a lot of favourable reviews and some even put it as among the best ever. If by the usual standard of Naxos you mean something not to be looked down upon just because it’s a budget label then you’re right on spot.

The shrieking women greatly detract from the marvelous orchestral music. For concert purposes, this number is best performed by orchestra ONLY.

Don’t be daft. Wagner considered the voices as instruments and scored his works accordingly. Doing this excerpt without voices is like doing Daphnis et Chloe without the woodwind section.
