In the sixth entry in my series of videos about particular characters from Jabba's Palace I look at Max Rebo, the Ortolan band leader. The article by Pablo Hidalgo I mention is below: www.starwars.co...
The film tells you Max is a good guy because he covers his eyes when Jabba does evil stuff. I snapped the arm off the action figure and was really upset because he's always been a favorite. I tried to get my dad to fix it, but he really couldn't, and it stayed in his top drawer for years. I hope it made it into the storage unit where all the stuff my parents were storing for me when I left for graduate school went once Mom passed away, but I wasn't there for the move and have no idea if it did.
Max Rebo is my favorite! I have that Star Wars Buddies plush on him of my dashboard. I reject the armless design even if it was the intent, it's interesting trivia though
the Max Rebo band appeared on the cartoon show , Droids in the 1980s, I had thought that they got blowed up in Return of the Jedi, that cartoon takes place between episodes 3 and 4 of the Star Wars movies, so they can still be alive in it
Max Rebo plays "We Wish You A Merry Christmas?" Of course! Max Rebo celebrated Christmas and was (perhaps) his galaxy's only Christian! It all makes sense now. It explains why he was able to kick out the jams so thoroughly.
I remember my dad giving me the power of the force figure as a random gift one day. I was really impressed by the figure s a kid, and thought he was super accurate. Though, I never really had much to do with him during playtime
Wow! I had no idea just how much merch there was for him and the band. Of course, it makes sense, as he IS the best Star Wars character. I had the original figures as a kid and Jabba's palace is my favorite scene in all of Star Wars. They were lost along the way, but I got a set off of eBay in high school. It's a shame the one doll uses the album version of Lapti Neck, and that it seems (to my knowledge) that a good, clean official release of the film one was never made available. Nice collection! I'd definitely like to get my hands on some of those items. I keep restraint with Black Series, but I would by a nice 6" scaled set (featuring classic puppet Sy) in a heartbeat.
We NEED to see Max’s Flanth House! With locations on Tatooine, Batuu, Coruacant, Chandrilla, Hosnian Prime, Corellia, Naboo, Nal Hutta, Nar Shadda and many more!
Even if the original plan was for Max to have no arms, it does not read that way in the movie. Watch the scene where "Boussh" pulls out the thermal detonator and you'll see Max cover his head with his "hands". It is impossible for me to see those as legs after that.
I got my max rebo figure in a box set at a Wal-Mart for my 7th birthday. I remember there were two box sets I got both and still have them till this day although not complete because of years of play.
4:17 I have a theory as to why max rebos legs look like arms in the final version, I think the puppeteer who played max wasn't able to bend his arms in an angel in which it could look like legs, humans dont have the ability to bend an arm in a full 360 motion, at most it can go as far as 180. so this was a last minute change to compensate.
Actually, I have a story tape where the Modal Nodes actually snuck out of Jabba's Palace because they didn't want to be there anymore. It's called 'We Don't Do Weddings'.
I hope Max gets a story in From a Certain Point of View Return Of The Jedi next year! I hope it's called Jedi Rocks where Max edmitts he really wanted to be a Jedi as a Kid, even though he wasn't Force Sensitive. And that like in Legends his real name is Sirullian Phantelle. He also explains that he was overjoyed to see Luke because he was a Jedi. He then states that he and the other band members jumped of the barge a split Second before it exploded. Later he would meet Garsa Thwip who would hire him to work in her sanctuary in Mos Espa. Where he confirms that he wasn't In it when it was destroyed. After that he went of to start his restaurant chain of course called Max's Flanth House!
It feels, sounds, and looks so out of place. The original was way better. Not only is the original song better but the puppets look a million times better than the crappy cgi. Lapti Nek felt more grimey and matched the underworld of Jabbas palace whereas Jedi Rocks felt like a an overproduced musical number for some Broadway play. Idk what Lucas was thinking. Some of the changes make sense such as better effects in the space battles, better looking lightsabers, the new Ewok celebration song at the end of ROTJ, the emperor scene in ESB, etc. jedi rocks is a travesty though
When they show those clips of starving children in Africa in those Charity adverts I normally always see a Child or two wearing Vintage Star wars Jim Jams or tee Shirts. SO AFRICA. The search ison for max Reebo Band Pyjama sets
I like the original song from Return of the Jedi, Lapti Nek more than that special edition song that replaced it, you can find the original song on youtube
@@MightyJabbasCollection Well, it'd be amazing if you did. Cause I just realized, Jon Yowler was IN the original make, then got CGI Remade in the 98 one.
I seem to recall a version in of the film's releases where Max where covers both of his eyes with his hands. Anyone else have that memory (and where is that footage?) Or maybe it was just a still?
Oh great. Thanks a lot. Need it for an interview I'm editing with the performer inside the costume. Thanks, mate. I'm enjoying your content 🙂@@MightyJabbasCollection
That's no diaper Max is wearing, you see during the day Max is in fact a sumo wrestler! He plays music at night to support his many illegitimate children since he is a jizz musician. He also has a nasty spice habit and as we all know the cost of spice rose significantly since Han Solo dropped an entire shipment of the stuff a few years earlier.
@@MightyJabbasCollection Did Max have his arms severed, like Ponda Baba in the Cantina. That's why Pablo drew him in such a way? P.S. I don't mind the lego build for his organ.
I think Chad was left hanging in 2000. But there seems really no evidence of him not having feet. If the feet are not going to be shown, it would not have been built by the production team.
