Yeh but that's only because they didn't make another movie to elaborate on the story I think if they had made more movies we would have found out they arn't after all like in the books x

Actually, one of the reasons why the movie botched it was by having a scene where it was revealed(IIRC in a conversation between Hodge and Valentine) that Valentine was lying to them as a means to manipulate them, so the angst and mystery in the audience's perspective faded even faster.
