This time Jack and the team pack their swags and head north into desert country. Beginning in the Gawler Ranges Jack heads north towards the old Woomera Rocket Range, stopping off to meet some of the local pastoralists and learning about Aboriginal water markers and how tribal Aborigines found their way across the vast dry country, going from one water hole to another.
Travelling further to the north Jack reaches the Woomera Rocket Range where British Scientists tested their rocket armoury post WWII.
We learn about treating snake bite, getting fresh water out of a slat lake and emergency welding before arriving at the tiny opal mining town of Andamooka.

Imagine having had the chance to have done a trip with Jack, or Mal Douglas, or Ted Egan, or Les Hiddens or even the Leylands.. Or sittin round a campfire for a weekend listening to the stories of these blokes... What an education.. how fascinating it would have been.. Most of these great people are gone now, many stories gone for good.... but thankfully some are still alive in their videos and shows. Whats sad is this was Jacks last show in his series... :( Thanks for uploading, been great sitting through them all while locked down in Melbourne.

Thanks for posting this! I really enjoy these older films, they are done with such a great style that modern documentaries seem to have lost.

I remember seeing one of Jack's outback survival docos in the early 80's, it gave me the confidence to tackle a trip alone around Australia in '85 and '86 using some of the tools, spares and accessories he recommended. Making things work based on common sense, ingenuity and improvisation . Just great stuff

Loved the insight about the missile and rocket testing history at Woomera. I agree with Jack, Australia should still be in the rocket business.

Jamie. Yeah that’s right, they bag China about a lot of things and every other country, but the bottom line is, that, there all in bed together.. I’m Lebanese, but I was born here and I go bush as much as I can and look 👀 at country videos a lot such as Jack Absalom and it’s the best fucking country you could look at, beautiful hills, beautiful bush and these fucking corrupt criminal politicians, who supposed to be Australian, ruined it..

he is wrong about "jumpy leads" as he calls them.. this is 2017 I have used ordinary jump leads on modern cars... so BS
@PeterMilanovski
@PeterMilanovski 3 года назад
I don't know what is inside the yellow box on the jumpstarter cables, but if anything, there's probably a diode or few in there to stop the car with the flat battery overcharging the starter battery! Because once the car with the flat battery is started, it's alternator is going to ramp up the current and if you don't remove the jumpstarter cables, it will begin to boil the good battery! The alternator only see's the flat battery! I used to transport car's on my truck for a living and I had to keep one of those jumpstart battery packs, the pack was getting low on charge one day so I hooked it up to my vehicle and started the motor, 5 minutes later, the battery on my work vehicle was boiling and spewing out battery acid! It damaged a perfectly good battery! So basically it's just an extra bit of protection, that doesn't mean that you can't use the old style jumpstart cables, you just have to remember to either hook up the cables and let them sit so that the good battery will charge up the flat one without the engine running or start both car's and remove the jumpstarter cables ASAP! The new style cables are designed for people who don't understand what is actually going on and offers a simple solution to do it safely...
