With the plumbing finally finished I was able to patch all the flooring, frame the shower and hang some of the sheetrock. I thought I would finish that job today...until I discovered the leaking vent stack. Two steps forward - one step back.

This is an epic series! Great to see different building processes/materials used in other countries. Quite different to how we do it here! Keep up the good work.

As like me, there's always something to come along and put a stop to completion, more undoing of what was redoing....at least your "glowing" still comes through as a growing venture! LOL Looking good and cant wait for next video....good luck 😉👍🏼😊

Thoroughly enjoy your videos. So educational and inspiring. I live in Vero Beach having moved up from Weston, Fl (Fort Lauderdale area). When we did our remodel in our bathrooms in both houses we used cement board for the showers. I found where the green board had failed in both homes. I am guessing moisture and quality may have contributed to the failure. I am truly in awe of your skills. Thank you for sharing. Hope the mold issue is an easy remedy. At least you discovered it now.

Thanks Joe. It's getting there. Feels like it's taking me forever but then, I've post every week since I started and it's only been 6 weeks so far so I guess that's not "forever". I'm ready for it to start looking like a bathroom though!

Yeah, bathrooms always seem to throw curve balls:) Seems to me that the lions share is completed at this point!

Ah thanks. Today was discouraging when I found mold on the sheetrock in the attic and now have 2 additional tasks to finish that I didn't previously plan on... That happens every other day but today was a skunk. :-D

Better you found the problem now than a year or more later when there would likely be substantially more damage.

Yup. One of those. LOL

I used to live in an old Victorian farmhouse, remodeling was always a question of where do we stop with each project. Does the floor HAVE to be level? Should we plumb that wall perfectly? Just opening a wall to add insulation and electricity could, and most times DID, open up a can of worms that couldn't be closed. Sort of a Pandora's box... You're doing great, keep up the good work.

Schizer!!! I guess codes are different everywhere. In my area green board would be used in the entire bathroom including ceiling. Use a gloss paint. I personally like semi gloss or eggshell. I seen a video the other day where a painter took latex paint and mixed it with water base polyurethane to paint the doors and moldings. Gives a great shine and durability of oil base paint. Without the oil mess.
@Sawdustgirl
@Sawdustgirl 7 лет назад
Yeah "code"... I'm doing greenboard in the whole room with the shower and toilet (not the ceiling). The vanity room won't be too humid.

Sandra Powell aka {Sawdust Girl} lol I feel the same way. Fence codes deck codes shed codes. All because dumb people don't know how to build.

I'm always amazed at how a house in the states is created... Over here everything is in concrete and bricks - so nothing to cut, no raised floor to change ducting and pipes so not much chance for such changeover... Even internal walls are mostly made of siporex...
@Sawdustgirl
@Sawdustgirl 7 лет назад
Yeah, here houses are made to be "thrown together quickly"... not sure they last as long.

Yeah state by state is very different too. Foundations really vary along with roof support needs.

in regards to the leak at the vent...more than likely it is leaking at the roof around the metal flange that's around the pipe. you don't need to replace anything just get some waterproof cement roof sealant. it comes in a caulk tube and seal all around it.
@Sawdustgirl
@Sawdustgirl 7 лет назад
I found a rain collar that goes over the "vent stack" (also learned that's what it's called. not thingy). Get's really good reviews because it doesn't break down like caulk. Ordered some. Putting them on all my vent stacks!
@GreenFire-o4j
@GreenFire-o4j 7 лет назад
If the vent fan duct is not insulated, you can get condensation to form in the winter.
@Sawdustgirl
@Sawdustgirl 7 лет назад
It was the vent stack. I wasn't sure if it was the vent stack of the ventilation fan and condensation. That's why I got out the ladder and hose. I didn't cover that well in the video...

If you can, consider replacing the square area of plywood around the closet flange with cement board. If you have dudes in the house, trust me..it's a wet area.
@Sawdustgirl
@Sawdustgirl 7 лет назад
wxfield Are you talking about the floor? By the toilet?
@wxfield
@wxfield 7 лет назад
The area around the closet flange..which is frequently located on the floor, yes. Unless you've already filled-in the toilet area, of course.
@Sawdustgirl
@Sawdustgirl 7 лет назад
When you say, "closet" flange...the "water closet" toilet flange? I just glued and screwed OSB down in there and it was a pita to cut that to fit over the pipe.

@Sawdustgirl
@Sawdustgirl 7 лет назад
Thanks Ron. I do THIS for a living...as in, I'm living through doing this. LOL I just remodel my own homes as we move around the country. I think this is our last house (or a keeper anyway) so I'm making it how we want it forever. When I finally finish this house I'll have to find something else to do.

I didn't know you could use OSB as wet walls in bathrooms, will you be overlaying something on top?
@Sawdustgirl
@Sawdustgirl 7 лет назад
That piece of OSB is sitting against the wall waiting to go on the floor. The walls are not covered with it. :-D

With all this inside construction what did you do to protect your HVAC?
@Sawdustgirl
@Sawdustgirl 7 лет назад
I use my dust collectors when I'm doing anything which produces dust. It helps a lot but doesn't eliminate dust. This house HVAC system is not engineered properly so there is no return in any of the three rooms I'm working in -- so that helped a bit too. Silver lining?
