The spartan king was the only worthy companion who got the honor of using Jack's Sword.

One of Genndy’s true talents is making a 20 minute long episode feel like a 2 hour long movie epic.

“A warrior that great can not be stopped so easily”. Words never been more true. One of the series best episode.

Jack throwing his sword to the Spartan King without a moment of hesitation is one of my favourite moments. He entrusts the king not just with his only weapon, but the one weapon that he needs to complete his mission. That is a massive sign of respect.

One thing I love about this scene isn't the fight, it's the Unity between 2 cultures, a Spartan wielding a Katana and a Samurai wielding Spartan's shields, fighting side by side, risking one life for another, if that not Unity and Trust then I don't know what the heck is.

And 13 years later… The 300 fight for the one!

Jack lensing him the weapon without a moments hesitation wasn’t the only huge amount of respect. The Spartan being able to use the blade was respect by the blade itself.

Genndy Tartakovsky really is an artist ahead of his Time.

I really do enjoy these classic Samurai Jack moments.

One of my favorite parts of this scene is the trust these two show as warriors who haven't even known each other for a day. And yes their coordination is impressive, but this is even moreso. The instant Leonidas's sword breaks, Jack throws him the sacred blade because he flat out KNOWS he's worthy enough to use it. They could've simply made Leo take the second shield and had Jack continue to play offense, but instead they took the route that said so much more. Expert story telling right there.

And THIS was 2002, 4 years before 300"s movie, i feel like they took inspiration from this episode, like, the hestetic, the musique, the slomo are nearly identical

Hats off to the sound designer, he melded the sound effects with the music really well. The music still reads even if I don't watch the video.

"a warrior that great could not be stopped so easily" you are so right and who else besides me thinks Jack is both burned and bloodsoaked in the end of the video since he is shirtless, survived a huge explosion and is shadowed? Man this shows that not even that huge explosion could stop Jack so easily.

15 years later: “The 300, fight for the ONE!”

I grew up watching Samurai Jack from 1st grade in school, I'm 26 now. But I still remember that the Spartan episode was the most epic, the haunted house episode was the scariest, the Scotsman saving his wife was the funniest, and the tower with the three archers was the toughest.

The animators team of Genddy create the most tecnically simple yet entertaining fights I have ever seen.

One of the best running themes of this series, was seeing Jack interact with warriors from other cultures and creating bonds out of respect, trust and honour.

What makes this thousands of times more amazing than it already is, is the Final episode, where the Spartans come to Jacks rescue, with the line : The 300 fights for THE ONE!!!! : So they honored his memory, and returned the favor

Whenever a channel like this reminds me of the insane level of quality I got to experience in the media available to me as a child, I can't help but feel bad for kids these days. If there is anything they got thats on this level I am completely unaware of it.

This is basically like when a pistol that holds 7 rounds somehow fires off a hundred rounds before running out in a movie, except this is so much worse because we can actually see all the legs that are not getting cut off XD

A Samurai Jack video game would be SO BADASS.

Samurai jack is true masterpiece the animation the story fighting it has it all

The smirk of the king at :59 second in after he tosses Jack his sword is such a look of content swag that I think about it all the time. After Jack tosses him the only offensive weapon that they both have, the king send Jack another defensive weapon and immediately thinks to himself "that guy is gonna be just fine". So epic.

The best part is in the finale we get to see the Spartans fight for Jack against Aku so the Spartans found out Jack didn’t die that day.

In my opinion this cartoon has been too underrated, it's a true work of art and Gendy Tartakovsky is a true artist. This cartoon deserves a manga, a television series and much more.

Gosh, this episode gave me such CHILLS when i first saw it, especially that last line.

This was the episode that leads you to believe what the gate guardian said about jack not being ready yet- because that vision had jack wearing spartan armor

This was easily my favorite episode. Learning about the 300 spartans in was one of the most memorable pieces of history i was ever taught, when i first realized they were the depiction of this episode i went nuts.

This episode and the one with the viking warrior trapped in the rock body are two of my favorite Samurai Jack episodes.

I absolutely love how Jack not only gives over his sword but is such a quick leaner that he and the king fight very much in that Spartan style of each warrior protects the man at his side with his shield. The timing and movements are so well done and the scoring is top notch as well. While I know 300 was based on a historic event, it was a comic book before it was a film, and this episode came out well before the film, you can't tell watching this that Samurai Jack didn't in some ways inspire 300 by Zac Synder.

looking back on this now that samurai jack is over, the scene of the king recounting the story of Jack aiding them now has greater context behind it we know the king shows up in the finale to aid in the attack on Aku as well as the fact that Jack stopped aging for 50 years, this means the ending scene of this episode where we see the King aged and recounting this story means that specific moment takes place during the final season we got our first look into the final season and we didn't even know it lol

I like this episode it's both homage from The Battle of Thermopylae and Mad Max 2 The Road Warrior.

I have seen this show a few times in the past. I think it is a okay show and would watch it in the future if I catch it on TV. My kids also watched it before.

While it's a great fight and episode, technically the spartan disgraced himself by giving up his shield, even if he was the king. From what I understand in history spartans that didn't return with their shield have symbolically let go of their defense of their people they swore to protect.

I like how everyone in the comments are treating the act of Jack relinquishing his sword to the Spartan King was a feat of epic proportions that the Spartan King was deemed worthy of wielding Jack's sword. I mean, it's not like the sword is Mjolnir from Marvel where only those chosen worthy can lift it, heck, Aku once tried attacking Jack with the sword, but I like that we're all treating it like it is exactly like Mjolnir. As far as I know for the sword's rules, it can't cut what it deems to be righteous.

I felt bad when Samurai Jack defeated Akku in the past because It changed the timeline when he had to defeat Akku in the future and be remembered in the future as a hero and that the world remember that once such a great evil assailed the earth and that the next season will be talking about the social consequences of the hundreds of years in which Akku dominated the world and how Akku's fans fought back so that the status quo that Akku created still remains alive after his death or disappearance from the carnal plane so would have been a little better and by the way they would have introduced to someone that Samurai Jack himself had trained and that the sword loses the ability to keep Samurai Jack young forever and that now every day that passes he lives as a normal human and without the magical powers of his sword facing all the evils and that year after year he sees that his human life is not going to be enough to eliminate all the evil that Akku caused and trains a warrior no matter the gender or appearance of the person who is going to fight to restore stability to the world the point that he goes from continent to continent, city to city fighting so that the dream of his master is fulfilled and that they make a statue of him and he is valued as the most important warrior of all mankind (I'm talking about jack) but that he dies of old age and together with the woman he loved the daughter of Akku for me the series was for 2 more seasons and maybe a third with only 12 chapters and already
