I do kinda wish you talk about Paul from the Pokémon anime and your opinion on him as a rival , because he does tick every box on what you want in a rival but despite the multiple opportunities you get to bring him up(especially in your Pokémon rivals videos) you never do. Jack's relationship with Carly was genuinely heartwarming and one of the best romances in Yu-Gi-oh as she managed to make a better man out of Jack and he in turn found someone he could just be himself around, flaws and all. It really SUCKS that after the Dark Signers, the writers had no idea what to do with her and basically made her into a background character. Seriously, how do you set all that up with no plan after the season ends?
Nah, it is not because of that. Carla voice actress was found messing with a cult and the news at the time were putting Yu-Gi-Oh and cultists together. The writers decided to get her away due to it and change the focus of yugioh away from the occult as much as possible because of that
After the Fortune Cup arc, the creator of YGO 5Ds left and the writers and animators were left with material he left behind for the Dark Signers arc. Which is why the 2nd half of the show is so different from the peak that was the 1st half. Combined with Konami wanting to push more Blackwing support, the new writers decided to make Crow that 3rd most important character and due to the Roma Sophi cult that was taking Japan by storm, YGO as a whole decided to leave behind its dark/cult like origins and thus all YGO plots became futuristic for the most part.
If she just ended up as a background character then that’s fine, but instead she just became 1 of 3 girls fighting for Jack’s attention like fangirls. Carly didn’t deserve that >_>

EOS I would say that he would win against Yusei 8/10 times (forced Yusei to topdeck 5 times final duel (Should’ve never happened and thus lost to Jack is the Crimson Dragon didn’t stack his deck). By future timeline I would probably say even Crow can beat Yusei’s prime considering that he probably doesn’t duel professionally anymore.

THere's debate over why exactly 5D screwed the pooch after the Dark Signers, I think the main things is the writers were hired for 2 seasons and left, then were replaced with other writers who just made shit up.

@@thefanwithoutaface8105 What I read, 5D's started with Takahashi at the helm entirely, but he wanted to get off of the show-production table for a while now, and the end of the Dark Signer arc was when he decided to jump ship, with the belief that the team at the time being competent enough to continue his work. What we got as a result was a dumping of many potential interesting story beats and sidelining of Akiza in favor of writer-favorite and Blackwing-Advertising Crow. While the Yliaster and Z-ONE ideas are interesting, the writers fumbled in execution. Like, the Dark Signers gave us some more Interesting female duelists in Akiza, Misty, and Carly. Fucking hell, *Carly's Whole Story* since her introduction was fucking peak, and the incredible setup between her and Jack was amazing. And then gets dumped as a character and archetype.
I loved the early endings to each Yugioh anime because it tackled somewhat of realistic issues. In DM, the group doesn't want Atem to go, even Atem himself doesn't want to, but they all have to do the right thing. Yugi, despite being the King of Games, he has other dreams and Tea goes away from the group to follow her dreams in America. In GX, most of the cast is unsure of their goals after they graduate which is a good connection to real life students who are afraid of going into the real world after their education is over. Not to mention that Jaden was traumatized from past events and lost the love for the game, which he got back. In 5Ds, it's a reference to how no friend groups stay together and you will eventually break apart. I'm kind of sad that after this, most Yugioh animes don't do this. Like in Zexal, it is alluded that Yuma and Astral will reunite and let's not even mention the mess that was Arc-V ending.
I think that's disregarding the endings for the other series. Vrains actually had the most bittersweet ending of them all. It's basically about how sometimes, there is no miracle solutions to anything and that trauma... Never really goes away. People will always have personal issues, and in a way, you just have to hang on in spite of it. But everyone is linked together and goes through the same things, which means the relationships you have with those people will eventually be what allows you to keep on going. As for Zexal, it is almost naively happy, and that's the point. While vrains and 5D's try to be realistic, Zexal aims for something completely different: The Anime is about how no matter how difficult things seem, there is ALWAYS a good future. You just have to believe in it, and try to make it possible. Until the very end, everyone in Zexal is telling Yuma that he has to make a sacrifice to make things better and that's there's basically no peaceful ending at the end of the road: they speak with a realistic mindset of an adult, but Yuma is an optimistic child, naive and inexperienced, but he wants to believe there is a good answer to all things. This ending is the physical representation of that: instead of trying to be bittersweet, it is trying to be the most heartwarming, positive an ending to be to pass on the message of zexal: at the end of the day, there could ALWAYS be a good outcome to any problem. It doesn't mean it will always work out, but who knows, with the right mindset, it just might. No amount of money could ever make me defend the arc v ending though.

@@crocky6996 how does it, though? Open ended endings can be taken the way people want them to be. When I first watched vrains, I thought Ai was dead and the final scene was him reaching the afterlife. There's no to tell if any of this is true or not, because it's left up to interpretations. And besides, I wasn't just referring to Ai's death, but mostly to the way Revolver and Soulburner were treated, as they both manage to find peace not by forgetting the trauma, but by accepting to live with it. Blue maiden isn't able to protect her brother in the end, despite all her efforts, and Robopi and the ignis are dead for good, because at last, in stark contrast to Zexal's ending, this time around... They couldn't find a way to live together. It's an actually bittersweet ending, because for once, we realize the goal of the protagonists, which was to live in harmony with the ignis, was impossible. If you want to add the duel links stuff you could, but it's more of a side series than anything. In duel links, Ai isn't really alive, he's a copy of his former self born from the memories of Yusaku. And if you think that ruins everything, then what about Bruno returning in duel links, doesn't that take away from 5D's ending?
@@bigfish5544I was trying to think of a reason for Zexals ending for a while now but your reasoning behind it is absolutely perfect. It even ties back to Yuma's main monster in the sub being called "Hope". Also when Ai was teased to be alive people speculated that Yusaku put himself through another Lost Incident in order to recreate Ai which just sounds messed up. Not sure how good of a theory it is though.
Part of me wonders if the reason he was given the last name Atlas, is meant as a nod to how the real Atlas in Greek Mythology asked Hercules to hold up the sky for him so he could retrieve the Golden Apples Hercules needed to acquire for one of his labors, only to refuse to take said responsibility back until Hercules outsmarted him into taking said responsibility back. In this case, Jack helped Yusei with the original D-Wheel with the plan being to escape only to steal it from him and escape on his own, gaining fame/freedom then had to be defeated by Yusei and thus stripping him of the fame and glory he'd acquired, thus somewhat returning him back to his previous position.
Did you know that before being defeated by Yusei on the final duel of the Fortune Cup Jack only used his Red Archfiend Dragon as an Ace and Boss Monster? he used other Extra Deck monsters but they were only used as Fuel to summon Red Archfiend Like Multiple Piece Golem or were symbolic cards like Stardust Dragon, being a representation of his ABSOLUTE POWERFORCE and only relying on himself ideals and a counterpart to Yusei's Extra Deck full of Different monsters as a representation of Yusei's Force of Bonds ideal. BUT during season 2 after being defeated by Yusei and meeting Carly he started to use other Ace and Boss Monsters like Explodewing Dragon, Crimson Blader and Majesty Red Dragon showing his character development were he understand that is ok to trust on others

Carly being forgotten between her revival and the very end of the serie is a crime, She would show even more Jack's developpement and show him in a good relationship.
7:41 Yusei's parents even named him after their Yusei Gear (which 4kids absurdly localized as "Planetary Particle" ) as a reference to them wanting him to connect people through bonds like the gear. He may as well be named Kizuna.
I am kinda glad the company handling the dub in my mother tongue (Italian) decided to keep dubbing the series after 4kids lost the rights. Up until that point they have been translating the 4kids English dub into Italian, but for the translation from episode 125 onwards they have translated the series directly from Japanese, meaning we eventually got to enjoy the show with the atmosphere it was always meant to have.
To be fair, Yusei gears is translated to planetary gears (please correct me if I’m wrong). So it makes sense where they got that from. Also, unrelated to 5Ds, I kind of find it interesting the idea of planetary particles. Imagine particles acting like a planetary gear. It would be super cool.

Notably, they edited the cards in Sevens which makes it clear they only do so for international distribution and the supposed advertising laws people used as an excuse (see also: The myth from corporate stooges that copyrights must be protected when that's actually trademarks) never actually existed.
Shoutout to Arc V Jack as well, who sized up our hero before the duel even starts and announces to the crowd "He loses in 3 turns, because I GOTTA FLEX!" and later when he's about to drive off an unfinished bridge, decides "the King is above all laws, including gravity!" and just flies over the ledge while casually inventing an upgrade to his ace. He was him every second of that show.
Arc-V Jack is imo the true iteration of how Jack Atlas should be, as I feel that is a proper continuation of his original character from the first half of 5Ds. The new writers turned him into a dum brute in the 2nd half of the show (until he got Scar-Red Nova), which is a shame because Jack is one of the most tactical and clever Rivals in the series.
Arc-V version is continuation of 5D's development he had in later half of the show. Stuff like Jack saying all cards are useful, believing duels are clash of souls and protecting RDA is strictly from second half of the show.
5D's in Japanese is a must-watch. The performances offset a lot of the questionable story choices. Doesn't fix the issue, obviously, but as a viewing experience there's no comparison to the goofy dub

My favorite thing about 5Ds is the characters in general feel like actual people, Yusei feels guilt over his fathers work, akiza feels like a monster because she’s been treated like one since she was a kid, jack is seemingly pissed off the majority of the time. As compared to Jaden who laughs during life and death duels
Yusei and Jack had such a awesome relationship, and Rivalry, one interesting thing about it is that despite Yusei living in The Satellite, he was actually born in New domino City,while Jack was born and raised in The Satellite,which is amazing because anyone that looked at Them would thing it's The opposite, that Jack was actually from The City and Yusei The Satellite,and that ads a layer to their Rivalry when We find that out because not only did Jack steal Yusei runner and his Card, he stole his rightful place in New Domino City, and with all that you can clear see that Jack was always The fake king, he always boast of how superior he was but there was nothing Jack could do that Yusei couldn't do better,and it's funny how Jack said once that Yusei wasn't Destined for anything but minimum Wage, when it's reality Jack is The one that would only be making that if he didn't steal from Yusei, The truth is sadly Jack was never Yusei equal especially not in The intelligence department, he had no skills besides dueling and riding a runner while Yusei could not only duel,and ride a runner he can also build them while Jack boasted of his kingly qualities, it was Yusei that actually proven to be a true leader, and of course i know there's way more to Jack then him being a wannabe and a fake king still it's just Sad that on paper his Rivalry with Yusei seemed so one sided,sure he held his own in duels against him but The gap between their Characters is so large most of The time.
Jack and Carly's relationship really was one of the worst casualties in the kerfuffle that befell 5D's development. Also, one thing I would have loved to see from this show would have been a duel against Kaiba (or perhaps a grown up Mokuba) against either Yusei or Jack. At the least I would love to see Konami perform a staged, voice acted duel like this. Also, also, remember that one episode at the duel academy where the ending implied that one kid was envious of Yusei having Stardust Dragon, and was clearly setting up for an episode where he would steal it, in order to be good at dueling, and would most likely lead to a lesson in "just because you have good cards, doesn't mean you know how to use them"? Then that episode never happened. Good times.
Jack Atlas is my second favorite character (Jaden being the 1st) and I cannot state how much his ideology has influenced me over the years. Bonds are necessary and valuable, true, but so is the raw strength you posses to show the world and yourself how much you're worth. Also his signature monsters and evos are just sick. Red fiendish dragons? Sign me up.
I'm surprised there's so little of Carly in this video, and not even a single mention of their duel together(which in my opinion is the best duel in the entirety of 5D's), I'd argue that she did more for Jack's character than Yusei did.
I sill hate so much how his relationship with Carly just got set back down after the dark signer arc, but still was always such a cool character with his mindset of being the "King". That last duel between him and Yusei is definitely one of the most memorable duels in the whole series for me
Jack was the only reason I made it as far as I did in the sub (the start of the Fortune Cup). If it hadn't been for him carrying the show, I would have quit a lot sooner.
The changes may also have resulted from Li-Mei Chiang, Carly's first-season Japanese voice actress, being exposed as a member of the self-described psychic cult known as the Roma Sophie Association. At the time, the cult was being investigated by Japanese authorities after one of its members had been physically abused into setvitude by the leader and his wife. She was dismissed as a result of this. This resulted in the show as the Arcadia Movement, and the first plan for Iliaster was to be removed since it appeared too much like a cult, and instead, Iliaster was redesigned as a group of time travellers, while Arcadia was removed completely.
Not really sure what the big issue is with Jack Atlas. You are aware that he's fully committed himself to being the King and so fully dedicated himself to dueling so him not having any other skills does make sense like you said. Him not using trust guardian is less so about him not using defensive cards and more so the fact that it represents trust and bonds which we all know Jack is very reluctant about and tbf despite his defensive cards we all know about RDA's effect during the endphase Carly's usage later on is really the only problem with Jack Atlas imo but even then that doesn't completely change his character or what he stands for.

It's a skill he was forced to get in order to survive and one he got before becoming the King. It's less so about trust guardian as a card and more so what it represents as in the name *trust* guardian. Which represents allies and bonds and well....trust lmao. It really only needed to be used once so it represents Jack giving in to the idea of working with others With him working with Bird Boy and Yusei it was different because they didn't share the field or their cards and could focus on their own strategies rather than working it out with their allies. We could see Jack using aggressive tactics in order to finish the duel quickly to destroy Rex whereas Yusei played a much more drawn out game and tried to help save Rex and the city. Junk Warrior punching Red Archfiend Dragon into the ground was my favourite moment in the series. It was one hell of a way to end the duel. Yusei using his oldest ace card and every Warrior synchro was a call back to his entire journey up until this point. But I also love that moment because Junk Warrior is my favourite monster from 5Ds.
Jack's change from Asshole to good guy is something I miss from old anime Nowadays if a character isnt perfect or kissing the mc's ass they're either a villian or killed off shortly after being introduced I really understand even if its not my taste the appeal of something like Mushoku Tensei seeing someone come up from rock bottom after being given a second chance at life and maturing past where they were in their last life
Hell, Jack HORNER has more nuance than most characters from mainstream media nowadays. It also doesn’t help that the shows which do have great nuanced casts of characters get canned after one and a half seasons…

Japanese favoritism towards specific characters will always be a thing, because there is no reality where anyone other than 5-10 gaijin hipsters would get hyped for rabble like Sho/Syrus, Ruka and Rua, etc getting a super mode and dabbing on the bad guys. Same goes for Digimon, because most people roll their eyes at lazy deus ex machina like MarineAngemon.

Once Yugioh 5Ds finished the traumatic bonding experience known as the Dark Signers arc the show became a reverse Gintama which kinda worked.In Jack’s case having lost the burden of being King and making peace with is brothers allowed him to grow,they check his ego constantly making reevaluate himself and his strategies and all the slice of life episodes show how noble he is compared to his King days where he is riding high on ego.He’s a reformed Takasugi to Yusei’s Gintoki and Crow’s Katsura.
Absolute Powerforce! While Zexal is my all time favorite of the franchise Jack is my favorite thing about 5Ds, and that’s even having missed out on the ending of it and other episodes
You can wish all you want for what you call a "proper" redub, but 4k is the official dub for YGO. Konami bought them out. Deal with it or watch something else.

@@what1fun1v3rs3 I find it a little difficult to care in the case of 5D's, since the second half of the show is wholly inferior to the first (I was just glad it was over when I got to the end of the dub). In GX's case, I haven't even gotten through season 2 yet, so I can't judge.
Jack Atlas flaw is the flaw of the show, the Signer and Dark Signer conclusion came and went to fast. When you look at the dark signer arc when it ends it genuinely feels like the end of 5D’s as a whole.
As far as I'm concerned, Dark Signers _is_ the end of the show. Everything after it just feels too different, to the point where it feels like another show entirely. The praise for the Meklord plotline in the fandom legitimately sickens me.

Yugi's star-shaped hair could be seen as a hand with the fingers spread out, though on the possible sea theme, I've mainly heard people compare Yusei's hair to a crab
The most laugh-out-loud moment I had with Jack was when he was just at home with Yusei and Crow just sleeping and the Cops/Swat team broke in with a warning and arrested him with a warrant and the nine yards of proof and legal right. which was hilarious given the Cops in 5'ds have a history of unlawful arresting of Satellite people like Yusei just for breathing the same air as them but here they do it by the book
3:38 the RPS paper theme for yugi is because Takahashi said it's hair was intended to look like a hand expecting a high 5 to make it look friendly. So his theme being an open hand, he's paper.
Jack's boss is also one of very few where I like the full evolution series. Every RDA retrain or upgrade feels like a natural step, and it's playstyle stayed coherent. It's wonderful.
My man Jack Atlas, an great example of a good rival. Too bad that the anime didn't know what to do with him for almost 60 episodes, but still gave us good moments. Absolute Powerforce!
5Ds’ second half feels so disconnected from the first because it was completely “overhauled” due to a controversy that surrounded one of the Japanese voice actresses, specifically Carly’s, and her involvement with a bdsm cult, which was discovered when a member was hospitalized. Due to this they changed the entire story to remove anything that could be compared to a cult, in this case by making Ilyaster a group of time travelers and just pretending that the Arcadia Movement didn’t exist. They also proceeded to greatly reduce Carly’s role in the story which is where I presume Jack’s story would follow. The other character that got the short end of the stick with that is Aki, who would have been involved with a potential Arcadia Movement arc
One thing I wanna comment on is the Trust Guardian thing during the fake Jack duel. Jack plays a lot of defensive cards for sure, but the issue with Jack was actually his ace monster, so it was always weird to me that the arc didn't take the time to bring that up. Its effect that destroys any monster that didn't declare an attack during the turn can be pretty detrimental in team duels, especially since (in hindsight), a lot of duels during the WRGP had Yusei and Crow NOT attack for the first turn or two. Jack leaving RDA on the field and passing the baton to Crow could be problematic if Crow can't/shouldn't attack. In my opinion they should have combined the fake Jack mini-arc with the Red Nova Spirit mini-arc, that way Jack has a better understanding of teamwork AND he'd get a boss monster that wouldn't screw his teammates over.

This is one of those videos that make me want to check out the subject of the video. I ended up brushing off Yu-GI-Oh, I think I might like this, despite the warnings about the series!
Jack is my favorite rival in the series, between Dark Signers and his appearance as a legacy character in Arc-V. I just don't even consider anything past Dark Signers in 5D's because it feels like a completely different show. If you want to talk to me about that part, know that I will not hold back on my opinion - it's my most hated part of YGO, bar none. Arc-V's ending is a flawless masterpiece by comparison (and while I don't hate it as much as most, I do have one major problem with it, which I would also be happy to discuss).
I love the Meklord Saga of 5ds but I hate how Jack was handled. Jack is a rich celebrity and show treats like losing his title means all his fame and fans vanished. PS: I also hate how in the dub the origin of New Nova Dragon was skipped and we were left with Jack pulling a new monster of nowhere which ironically isn't that hard to believe this characters new boss monsters with no explanation on where they came from.

yugis / atems hair is modeled after an opened hand, so its similar to someone throwing paper in a game of rock paper scissors if you didnt understand the rock paper scissor trio bit.
Honestly Kamen, I could probably make a whole video (or you) using the ABSOLUTE POWERFORCE! To explain what went wrong with Crow's execution as a character and how to revise it so he still works in 5Ds. As he is now, as seen with you, he's base-breaking. He has some genuinely good moments and duels, but on the other hand, he falls flat in terms of character compared to his adoptive brothers (and Aki), and doesn't seem to have a lot going for him outside of seeming like a walking Blackwings promotion, and a bit of a spotlight stealer at times, something that repeatwd itself with his incarnation in ARC-V despite having an okay start. If they had to remake 5Ds in any way, Crow would need a solid basis to work with as a character so that he can finally escape the fandom's view of him as a harbinger of seasonal rot. I brought this up because in watching the video, you didn't really complain about Crow too much here, but I still can't help but think of what good could've been done with his character, and how he was wasted. He grew up with Jack and Yusei as a power trio of sorts, he should have more to him by default.
Crow Hoagn's whole character ruined any chance that the other "Signer Dragons" getting future evolution "Synchro Summon Forms. Imagine every "Signer Dragon" getting the same treatment as Yusei's Dragon.
I'm so glad you're now talking about Jack Atlus, honestly my favorite rival in the series especially as even tho he wants to prove he's better than Yusei,it won't change the fact, he's still his friend despite everything even if Jack betrayed him in the past, he knew it wasn't worth it the hardway and realized how important having friends were and yeah I'll admit, him being a bit flanderized after the Dark Signer Arc was a bit yikes although thankfully the Ark Cradle Arc finally delivered on what Jack is like both by being one of the signers to offer Yusei his dragon but also to challenge Yusei again in a final duel to help decide the future for Yusei & everyone else, man do I love this series and 5ds might be my favorite generation although there are some honorable mentions with Zexal & Vrains
The biggest- and blatant- reason for the cutting down of the YGO Dub was simple: American producers still see some of this media as "Advertising" still. At the time, The ZEXAL anime was either out in Japan, or was almost set to release and XYZ-era cards were about to be released worldwide. So 4Kids, in their usual way, cut out the 5D's final season in order to prepare for the ZEXAL anime. After all, get all the kids hyped for the newer XYZ cards about to be released. Don't want to follow the boring guy still using Syncro cards. This happened prior to GX as well. GX ends right after the Supreme King arc and final duel with Yubel, because 5D's and Syncro-era cards were about to be released.
@@jackofaces107 The only major lawsuit I heard was around ARC-V's production. Which kind of shows, as the ARC-V dub hard stops at the introduction of the XYZ Dimension. Like, we see the destroyed Heartland, but that's it. 5D's gat an entire season cut, and ZEXAL went on to completion (which hadn't happened since the the original Yu-Gi-Oh series.)

It goes to the final ceremonial duel and the teaser of Yuya vs Yusho. If it stopped at Xyz, we wouldn't have Z-ARC's dub voice to make fun of.
@@gyppygirl2021 Places where I could watch the ARC-V always cut the dub off at the end of the Syncro arc, and many places I went to to try and find info for these episodes never turned up an English cast at all. Even "Sailing the Seas" I straight-up never found a dub of ARC-V past the Syncro arc.
Agreed. After the Dark Signer arc the series was kinda dull since you kinda can’t outdone our heroes going against Undead Duelists saved from Death with the power of the Underworld to destroy the world in an ancient war/prophecy against the Crimson Dragon. Kinda hard to top something that crazy cool

5ds second half should've either shifted focus to other characters like Crow & or Leo & Luna Or just been a whole new season in neo Domino to keep up the original locale for one more season Even if they kept the og cast Do more with Carly Show yusei doubt his dad proud bring back Kalin And show us a more interesting version of the Divine Temple plot
Not to mention after Jack's duel with Carly, he really, really cares about her. Even if you don't want to see romance, you can tell that they are at least important to each other as friends. He's softened up a lot, too, putting aside his own ambitions and looking for new horizons, new paths for himself. In the second half, all of that is wiped away. He is suddenly incredibly angry and arrogant again, moreso than is necessary, becomes obsessed with obtaining power and becoming the King again when that was gone from his mind in the last arc, and starts ignoring Carly completely. In the last episode, in the timeskip, he seems not at all himself, just cold, angry, and arrogant, like he was at the very beginning of the series, without a hint of the softness that he had gained from his conversations with Carly.
Ruins? The episode where jack fails at a bunch of part time jobs is the best episode in the whole series. What are you talking about? I’m mad that jack doesn’t end up as carly’s househusband
They missed the best opportunity to have the protagonist lose the final 'ceremonial duel' because in the case of Yusei vs Jack, there were no stakes, no consequences for the loser, Yusei never truly wanted the King of Games title, so Jack surpassing him at the end would have shown that Jack now has the maturity to own the title of 'King' after all they've been through.
Honestly jack Is my favorite character in yu gi oh, actually I love him so much I have a tattoo of his signer symbol in the same place on his right hand ad him. I think he is the best rival I have seen in any show, and he is big part of the reason why 5d is an amazing yu gi oh anime
I just wish there would be a movie that is kinda like the movie they made where the og yogioh cast are all grown up ,imagine if we get a movie were jack helps yusei in a research about a new dragon card ,only for it to trap the two in the mind of thier own dragon cards ,and forcing them to dual ,yusei trying to help jack regain his consciousness bc he got effected more than him by the card ,it would be cool man

Jack is a really good character too bad of the "reset button" in the iliaster arc but that was mostly because a different writer took over somewhere during the dark signer arc, he and carly deserved that relationship but no instead he gets a harem between mikage carly and Stephanie i mean mikage made sense since she was his secretary and had feelings for him but stephanie was just added for laughs even though it is funny that in the over the Nexus game she plays a blue eyes deck since she works at the blue eye cafe Nice little kaiba reference
Funny enough, when 5D's dropped i was around middle school. And i found it quite enjoyable. Admittedly, it was odd seeing Jack go from a well written rival to comic relief cause he fails at basic life odd jobs. Understandable development, but his persona being odd post Dark Signer threw me off. All that said, this "CARD GAMES ON MOTORCYCLES!!!" man is a legend
Jack may have Battle Fader, but a lot of the time his battle plan is to go on the offensive RELENTLESSLY. Exploder Dragonwing and Chaos King Archfiend support his old attack pattern. Exploder Dragonwing destroys monsters of equal or less power and burns the opponent equal to the destroyed monster's attack. Chaos King Archfiend flips a monster's stats to create an opening for itself. Red Dragon's Archfiend/Red Daemon's Dragon is the best example of his attack pattern as well as it destroys all Defense position monsters after it attacks, crushing everything in its path, but also destroys his own monsters if they don't attack. In the WGRP tournament against Team Unicorn, this attack pattern of his is used against him with a trick to get Jack to attack, lock him into a battle, and then burn him for almost his entire Life Points in one move. He's a little shocked by it but instead of thinking of a different plan, he doubles down and sets a trap to negate the next trap...but ultimately he loses. And because he was too focused on the battle, he overlooked the damage to his Duel Runner, ignored the call to switch out, and is forced to walk the Duel Runner ALL THE WAY to the lap line while bleeding in order to barely stay in the duel. His tactics and pride almost cost them the entire tournament. Then during the ritual for Red Nova Dragon, a similar thing plays out. The Yomi deck punishes him every time he tries to battle and slowly whittle away his life points. Only after breaking free from a trance does he use a different way of fighting and using his cards for purposes other than boosting Red Daemon's Dragon. Red Nova dragon itself is also a culmination of his learning with the effect of it being able to banish itself to avoid battle, while the effect of getting power from Tuners is his Dragon getting stronger through bonds they forged to summon it out. And after Red Nova, he has a few more times to show he isn't carelessly attacking to smash through everything. In his duel with Team Taiyou (that didn't get dubbbed ;w;), he sacrifices himself and his Dragon in a play to try and stop the enemy from getting more turns for some plan, and get Jack in because he knows his fighting style may be better (as well as Black Winged Dragon to counteract Speed World 2's effect to burn for 800). Then when dueling with Aporia, he again takes things slowly and tries to get Leo to stop worrying too much because every move matters. And finally, his last duel with Yusei he unveils a new Synchro that again reflects his smarter way of playing: Crimson Blader. Unlike Red Daemon's that crushes the defense, Exploder Dragonwing that punishes the weaker monsters, or Chaos King Archfiend that opens a way for its assault, Crimson Blader keeps the opponent off of monsters. It controls and limits the battlefield rather than tears through it. Sorry for long explanation
Maybe, but you're ignoring a lot more: Trap eater and Dark Sprocket are used to eliminate his opponent's spells and traps. His iconic tuner - Dark Resonator, prevents itself from being destroyed in battle once. And then there's Barrier Resonator as well. Crimson fire is used against Effect damage Prideful Roar makes his monster gain attack points to equal the opposing monster - Which with Strong-Wing Dragon makes it invincible against stronger attacking monsters, since it can't be destroyed by monsters with the same attack. Synchro Deflector negates an attack against a Synchro Monster and destroys another monster. Fiendish Chain - nuff said there Changing Destiny - Which can negate an attack. I'm not gonna argue that Jack's strategy is more attack focused, but to say that he didn't have defenses Also, I don't think bringing up Team Unicorn would work here... Because their duel against team 5d's was AFTER the trust guardian episodes - So the lesson was useless.
@@Mangakamen Very fair points, though with some of those they are defenses to improve his offense like Crimson Fire to reverse the Damage, Prideful Roar to overpower, Trap Eater and Dark Sprocket to remove the opponent's defenses and open them up for attacks. So I guess Also remembered Mad Archfiend that turns to Defense when attacked which is both its weakness but also a way of defending. I don't really know why the Trust Guardian and Battle Fader portion got me this...fired up, so sorry about it all and I did greatly enjoy the video.
To be honest I didn't enjoy the Red Nova dragon bit, it felt like they sent him on a mandatory side quest to get the power up to keep up with Yusei, but they didn't leave any space for him in the actual story Whiiiiiiiiiiich is completely understandable because Aki and the twins needed it more, and the duel with Aporia was good Rua is GOATED
I loved 5Ds when I was watching it as it aired. Moments still stand out and Jack is my favorite character while Aki WAS right behind him. Where they did both disgustingly dirty, Jack was still his own character while Aki became a cheerleader and lost who she is. Crow I dislike as he took over development and airtime from the rest of the cast that wasn't Yusei or Jack. Yusei got the protagonist treatment so hard that I have to ignore how he in some way contributes to all but ONE dark signer fight to enjoy it in full. My favorites battles that season were Kiryu and Carly. The connection and intensity was great and the endings were earned until it was damaged by that reset button.
They didn't know what they were doing with the show, period. It's World of Warcraft levels of BS retconning and rewriting things. I still have a grudge against post-Dark Signer 5D's and it annoys me to see it being praised all over the place.
ABSOLUTE POWERFORCE XP Jack shoulda been allowed to defeat Yusei in the finale; it wasn't at all necessary for Yusei to win to get all the points between them across, and Jack needed it waaaaaay more than Yusei did from a character standpoint.
I do really like Jack in Arc-V, even if he wasn't the main rival anymore. He got his Kingly charisma back, he was strict but not a jerk. He called Yuya out on his shallow Dueltaining that only sought to emulate his father's, and pushed him to seek out his own identity as a Duelist. Plus, he was just a certified badass. Him and Akaba Reiji seemed the type to be invincible whenever they appeared.

Absolute Powerforce! My biggest issues with 5D's is the dub and making Yusei look invincible. The dub is actually fine until the end of the fortune cup, then for me it's unwatchable after seeing those same episodes in the sub. The cut episodes don't help. It has the weakest ending in any of the shows i've seen, and it cuts out important episodes. If you haven't watched the sub i seriously recommend you do, and I'm one of those people who generally prefer dubbed anime. As for the Yusei invincible thing? He should have lost to Antinomy at least, and I wish Jack, Crow, and Aki got some of the glory in the WRGP. 5D's is still my favorite Yu-Gi-Oh but they had so many missed opportunities. The team Ragnarok duel was one of the best ones IMO. Aside from the final Jack v. Yusei duel.
Having recently gotten the RDA starter deck, and becoming an RDA main on Master Duel, I've come to look back on Jack and realize how great of a character he was. Sucks his development was cut short because of dubbing complications, and we never got to see the coolest dragon evolution in Yugioh. Seriously, Red Dragon Archfiend/Red Demon's Dragon is one of the best Blue-Eyes-like monsters in Yugioh with one of the most adaptable rogue decks in recent years.
5ds has some problems, I still enjoyed it a lot. It was a interesting twist and tone setting for Yugioh, 5ds was a part of my childhood I can't remember how much I watched it as a kid. I liked the cast of characters, hard for me to pick a favorite I will say Jack will always be high up in my list no matter what. Coming back to it years later felt nice, I was able to understand it much better, and overall had a fantastic time.
