Verna Felton played Dennis Day's mother. Verna is best-known for voicing characters (usually battleaxes) in Disney cartoons: "Dumbo", "Alice in Wonderland", "Lady and the Tramp", "Jungle Book", and (a sweet one) Cinderella's Fairy Godmother. She also voiced Fred Flintstone's mother-in-law Mrs. Slaghoople.

Yes, Jack's next TV show was presented live that very evening, at 7:30pm(et) [because the coaxial cable connecting East and West Coasts had yet to be completed, Jack had to stage his TV show in New York- as more viewers lived in the East and the Midwest- with kinescopes sent to the West a week later]- his guests were Claudette Colbert and Basil Rathbone.

Jack's real-life sister-in-law "Babe" appeared as herself in Mary's place. Elliott Lewis is the man ahead of Jack in line.....

The guy who doesn't want to go to Tennessee (parody of the song) sounds like the guy who always loves then easily hates his job ("I'll quit this lousy job!") from the Burns and Allen OTR show.
