#baddmedicine# your reviews and reaction of this movie was awesome I hope you guys will please do a reaction of one of my favorite Arnold Schwarzenegger movie from 1994 its called JUNIOR
There's also the Starfox Arwing tv antenna on the tv in Mario's room, the Mario shape in the brick wall when Mario and Luigi crash into it in the sewers! The Dk Rap reference from Donkey Kong 64 which made me very happy! There's too many to count! I was trying so hard to keep an eye for them I didn't count because I heard there were a lot of easter eggs. And I agree Jack Black was perfect for Bowser!
Oh and there was the reference to Fix it Felix in there that I forgot to mention! And all the Punch-out references in the restaurant! This is easily a movie I could see watching again to find more easter eggs and references! I'm sure I missed plenty! And yes, that was 100% a Luigi's Mansion reference in the forest! That was my first thought too. Oh and they even included the cart selection music when they're making their carts! I thought that was neat! Toad's cart made me laugh! The smallest one with this huge truck, and the sunglasses! Haha! And they had the whole DK family in the front of the crowd! Diddy, Dixie, Chunky, Kiddy, and I think Lanky was in there, but I don't think I saw Funky which was sad and surprising, or Wrinkly. I'm guessing you heard recently that a sequel was announced! It's crazy how much money Nintendo made off this and all the records this movie broke! I think it's the made more money than any other animated movie or it was up there near the very top. Mario Maker is my favorite game hands down! I wanted a game like that for so many years as someone that grew up on Mario games and loves creativity! I spent so many hours making levels in Mario Maker on the Wii U!
Jack Black was certainly the only casting decision I wasn't completely bewildered by, but after actually watching the movie he ended up being one of my least favorite parts of it, so go figure. Lol
Fun fact, the King Penguin's voice actor, Khary Payton, said that Chris Pratt and Charlie Day's first voices for the brothers were SUPER thick brooklyn italian accents, similar to something in goodfellas or the sopranos! After that, Nintendo basically told them to dial it back alot more. 😂
Seeing this in theaters was so much fun. I'm pretty sure the adults were loving it more than the kids lmao. I saw it with my bf and his brother and they got definitely got misty eyed at times lol. Been singing "Peaches" ever since. 🍄
I can imagine the people watching cheering at the end of this movie in theaters! I'm not a big movie fan and don't go to the theaters, but I kind of wish I had seen this in theaters. And I can totally see this movie being more enjoyable for adults than kids with all the throwbacks to the classic Mario games and other games such as Punch-out and some that may not be as well known to kids.
Respect for the killer intro, turned out really amazing. Jack Black is definitely the breakout performance but the rest of the movie was also super enjoyable.
This movie touched my heart in a way I couldn't imagine. My brother that is also my best friend is going through a bad depressive moment, and while I was watching the movie and seeing Mario and Luigi always being there for each other, or Mario saying to Luigi "nothing bad will happen as long as we are together" ... ughhh, I cried tons. I texted my brother and he found it funny how Mario movie made me cry. But it's just my heart that felt that way because of him.
I was having a "meh" day and this video arrived right on time. I can't wait to see Answer being ready willing and able and Oak dispense to us his 80s/90s philosophical take, while Mason just enjoys his time. Thanks guys, you're awesome. Keep doing you.
That star moment had EVERY gamer I know hum starman. I was so blown away by this version. We waited 30 years to get a film of THIS caliber(after the flawed first attempt)
This movie is such a love letter to Mario fans. Power-ups and mechanics from games like Mario 3, 3D World, and NSMB, places from or reminiscent of 64, Donkey Kong Country, Luigi’s Mansion, Odyssey, music originally composed from 1, World, Galaxy 1 and 2, Bowser’s Fury, Mario Kart 8, and so on. And of course, the other Nintendo references like Punch-Out and Kid Icarus. It’s all so good to catch and hear on subsequent watches
I didn't think watching you guys watching this movie would give me JUST as much happiness as it did when I watched it in the theaters. Brilliant movie, delivering on everything I hoped for. This is a movie for EVERY generation. As a 90s kid, growing up with parents who played videogames (Mom played Super Mario 64, and my dad played so many racing games), this hit hard.
damn that was a nice intro editing. Altough, it feels like a "simple, generic" movie, plot wise, but I believe the purpose was about having a good time, and fun, catching the references and whatnot. I love it! I remember the estatic joy I had when I heard the Mario Kart 8 menu theme
In theater was a ridiculous experience. It was multi-generation from kids all the way to 60's laughing. Packed with people cosplaying, kids dressed-up with toys and everyone signing Peaches on the way out. Crazy energy. FYI this is the first time Illumination had to partner for a movie as Nintendo refused to just hand the rights over again like in 1993. The creator of Mario was heavily involved and Nintendo also funded part of it. Illumination said it was a great experience. Nintendo bought an animation studio last year and turned it into Nintendo Pictures with the sole purpose of bringing Nintendo IP's to video so they are serious. Zelda is already rumored in development and hopefully many other IP's
One Easter egg that I really like that I didn't even notice when I first watched it was that when Mario and Luigi first break through the wall into the area with the pipe, the hole they make is in the shape of 8-bit Mario's head.
How can you not think Bowser is a bad bad guy? He tortures both Luigi and Toad! The second Peach rejects him during the wedding he actively tries to kill her! I was honestly surprised how villaneous they made him. He's alot more sympathetic in a lot of the games and even joins your party in some of the RPGs.
Glad you guys caught the in-game Mario voice actor cameo. What you guys might not have caught during your first viewing is that he also voices Mario’s dad.
There was quite a few Easter eggs in here. When mario and Luigi crashed into the bricks in the sewer, the imprint in the bricks is shaped like a mario 8 bit head. Luigis ring tone is the Nintendo game cube theme. When the dimensions convergence, they end up like construction site in Brooklyn just like in the 93 mario movie. Great reaction fellows!
Another thing that I appreciated it is they made Bowser far more 3-dimensional...and gave him a real reason as to why he went for conquering. He believed the princess would make him happy, meaning he's not happy with himself.
I literally just watched this movie yesterday and loved it and now I get to enjoy it with one of the best group reaction channels here on RU-vid. This movie was just childhood nostalgia and fun injected straight into my veins and you can tell that the people that created this really wanted to capture that feeling of excitement and kudos to them.
Ive been a Mario fan for a long time. Ever since I was 4 years old (1989) I played Mario and loved it. Ive played a lot of the games throughout my life. And when the 1993 movie came out I was very disappointed. So when I heard this was going to be released I was very skeptical. But I was pleasantly surprised when I went to see this in the theater with my sister. It had so many easter eggs and things that a lot of players would see and love. So it is awesome and Im glad you guys liked it too!
There's nothing like watching three grown men mark out hard for an animated film.... with me right there with you along the whole way. I saw it in the theatre with my 5 year old daughter, she adored it and loved Peach, but I think I loved it more than she did being a hard-core Mario kid when I was little. Dream come true.
I need folks to start giving Keegan Michael Key some love. He crushed it as Toad! A lot of reactors bypass him in their discussions which is wild to me. You couldnt even tell it was him. He was great! Awesome reaction. I clicked so hard. I saw this in the theaters. We got the biggest screen in MI at Emagine Theater. It was awesome. The sound, clarity was awesome. Everyone was laughing and cheering when Luigi protected Mario. The ending with Yoshi had everyone going nuts, including me 😂😂
I like that they used all the years of Mario when going for references. Both going for nostalgia but also things from the most recent games like Odyssey and Mario Kart 8. Few things I wasn't a fan of, I think they went a biiiit too simple when it came to worldbuilding "Here, these are power ups, now we go do the plot" and they overused slow motions a LOT. But after being super worried when of all studios it would be Illumination doing Mario, they really proved that they were a great choice. The squishyness of their style works really well for Mario. We went to watch the movie in the theater, as a group of late 20s who grew up with those games and we were probably the loudest laughing group there. Constantly felt like I wanted to point at the screen for details and we looked at each other at every sound queue we recognise. In the end what the movie got 100% right, it's simply FUN.
Rainbow Road was the one course I always did well in. Something about the music, colors, and finality of it got me super focused. (LOL not sure why I called it Star Road)
Enjoyed your review of the movie! Talk about a walk down Memory Lane! I used to have a bootleg 5 1/2 in floppy of Donkey Kong and later a bootleg of Mario Bros that I and my friends would play on an Apple 2e with a color monitor in the 80s. We had such a good time with it even then. So much fun!
You guys have such an amazing reaction to this movie and it made my day! This movie was so nostalgic and I think it's great for all ages from older people who played the Nintendo 64 and Game Boy to Gen Z'ers today playing the switch and the newer Mario games like Odyssey, Smash Ultimate, and Mario Kart Deluxe. The soundtrack was good, the animation was good, the characters/voice acting was good but the plot was meh. I wish they had other characters though such as Daisy or Wario. Bowser and Lumalee were the best characters in my opinion. Some moments that made me laugh my ass off; When DK is flexing his pecs and showing off, Toad and his sunglasses in his big kart and when he screams I'm too young to die!, Bowser and his obsession with Peach-When he sings Peaches and get's interrupted(both times), him practicing his vows with Kamek dressed up as Peach, and lot's more. Keep up the great content guys. 👍
Seeing this movie in theater with my family and fiancè was a fantastically fun experience. Even my dad, why didn't play one bit of a Mario game, enjoyed it.
this is the type of animation that even grown ups above 40 years old can relate to...just watching you guys is even funnier because i can see that you have the nostalgic feeling like you are playing the game again...hahaha 3 big guys being kids again is so refreshing to see... awesome that you loved it!
When I first watched this movie and saw the Yoshis, I was so hyped! The reason was the pink Yoshi that stops looks at them and voices "Mario", indicating that Yoshi had actually met Mario before this! Made me so hyped for the possibilities!
Remember what Mario's father said at the end "These are my boys!" because the original voice for Mario (who voiced Mario and Luigi's father) it's now retired and that was his last proudly Mario Bros line. :')
That intro felt so perfect they could have put that in the movie! An interesting story regarding "Peaches." From what I know, Jack Black said he was asked, halfway through production, if he could sing in the movie, something he doesn't immediately say yes to since he has a band and all, and they sent him a short 30-second song. When he listened to it, he got it, Bowser tickling the ivories. He worked on it, turned it into a full song, sent it back and said he'll only say yes if he sings it exactly like this. And they said "YESS!!!"
The one shot where Mario is playing NES, you pointed out the Pro Wrestling poster. Starman Vs. The Amazon. Within that game Amazon is regarded as a monster heel, whereas Starman is the babyface luchador. Amazon wearing a lizard like mask, and Starman also doubling as the name of the powerup in the Mario series. It's a blink or you'll miss it foreshadowing for the climax. Also, a-Ha's Take on Me was selected to be in the film due to it being the #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 the day the Nintendo Entertainment System made its debut in New York City for a trial run (October 18th, 1985)
*Jack Black's casting as Bowser is one of my favorites in a movie inspired by a video game franchise. Right up there with Ryan Reynolds as Detective Pikachu and Ben Schwartz as Sonic The Hedgehog.*
Nope, KAMEK is Kevin Michael Richardson, whereas the leader of the penguins is CYBORG from Teen Titans. Though I have NO idea who plays Diddy. Yes, I did see it and I took NINE people to the theater and you can see the proof in my third episode of my Super Smash Bros. Cinematic Universe Box Office Records series.
Im going to say the movie met my expectations, I enjoyed every single moment of the movie. It brought me back to my childhood from playing the Super Nintendo to playing the Game Cube , Nintendo DS and also Wii. I can’t wait to see if they can introduce the rest of the characters from the Mario franchise! 😍😍😍🤣
I had it when i was growing up on Atari 2600 when it was just MARIO BROS.... then had it in original Nintendo and i played that thing forever, had the old nintendo game informer magazine with all the secret levels, etc...
the only thing i wish is that kranky used a couple old man "back in my day" quips, cause that was his whole thing in the game also mario kart crossed with mad max road battle lol
i still remember the time everyone laugh at the cast especially on chris pratt till he did the italian accent was a big slap to the one who doubted him and hated him being casted as mario😂😂😂😂 good times men
I also love the fact that the movie knows when to add terror and suspense despite it mostly being fun and upbeat. I also like the message that movie gives to not only children but to us as adults as well. Bowser was both funny and scary as hell!
I played Mario only maybe once in my life despite being 30 years old. So for sure I have missed a lot of references and Easter eggs in this movie, but nevertheless it didn't take away from the whole experience. I loved this movie! It was so innocent and full of bright colours! It made me laugh and have my mouth wide open in some scenes. It was entertaining and an evening well-spent
The advertisement in their plumbing, the one who voiced the woman tha looms similar to princess peach was the orignal actress from the 90s tv series, also the number that was showed in that ad really works during its release and part ofvtheir marketing strategy with charlie day's voice as luigi in a voice mail...also i think they still have the website about their plumbing services active...😂😂
You know what this movie was? It was fun and that's ok. When it came out a lot of critics complained that the plot was so simple but guess what, the Mario games are simple too. You also have to consider that Nintendo is super protective of their properties, specially Mario so they had a big say on it. They kept it safe but its ok. It made the money and can't wait for sequels and spin off
Here are the cast that I hope to appear in Super Mario Bros 2: Chris Pratt- Mario Anya Taylor-Joy- Princess Peach Charlie Day- Luigi Emma Stone or Zendaya- Princess Daisy Jack Black- Bowsler Walker Scobell- Bowsler Jr/ Diddy Kong Keegan Michael-Key- Toad Seth Rogen- Donkey Kong Fred Armisen- Cranky Kong with Bill Hader as Waluigi and Pedro Pascal as Wario (I also heard Jack Black, who voice Bowsler, wanted Pedro to voice Wario) Wish that the sequel could get a 2hrs run-time this time
