Licking the reed gets it wet, allowing it to vibrate against the mouthpiece. The mouthpiece can be adjusted up and down the cork it rests on, in order to bring the horn in and out of tune. Judging by that, and the footwork when he's walking over to the band, I'd say it's a pretty good guess but obviously impossible to say for sure based off of a RU-vid short 🤷‍♂️

​@bemimu the way he walks down the stage and moves over to the band is too smooth. Marching downhill itself can be difficult and cause you to make very small breaks in your ability to play. Especially if your instrument involves alot of breath control. He's also was able to keep that breath control while dancing and marched sideways which if you've never done before is a pain in the 🍑 at first -a former marching band nerd who played flute for 3 years (at that time had played 13 all together) and did colorguard for 1 lol
