Jack Hatton (September 20, 1995 - September 24, 2019) was an American judoka representing the United States. He was known as "Judo Jack". Hatton was a member of the US National Team and competed in the 2017 and 2018 Senior World Championships in the 81 kg division. Hatton was attempting to make the 2020 Olympic Team prior to its postponement.
"Jack Hatton meant so much to so many. He was so young, talented, and had so much left to accomplish and dreams to live out. This was a devastating blow and nobody saw it coming, as the word "depressed" never crossed anyone's mind when thinking about Jack's demeanor. Jack was a kind, gentle soul off the mat that people gravitated to and could be themselves around. He allowed you to truly feel comfortable in his presence. On the mat, he was a monster who never let up and continued to grind it out until the job was done. I had the privilege and honor of coaching him mat-side for many of his epic battles where he showed the size of his heart. I will always remember our times together and cherish them deeply. I will continue to miss and mourn you, stud. Love you, RIP Jack!" - Justin Flores, Coach and Friend

The loss of Jack hurts so bad. I didn't have many interactions with him, but the impact he had in my life, and my son's life indirectly, was profound. I am quite a bit older than Jack, and the questions he asked were so deep and existential. He pondered things for so long. I can remember his "thinking" face as we discussed life topics. I knew him from a non-competitive standpoint in that I hadn't competed or practiced martial arts in 15 yrs, so our conversations were mostly about life in general. The amount of empathy Jack showed for people is special. You will be missed.

I grew up and went to burnt hills with jack. Was messaging him just months before talking about being excited for him to come home to re-connect…. This video hurts but I thank you for putting it together…

My training partner for over 2 years straight at Jason's. I outweighed him by over 60 kilos. 2-a-days both morning and night practices. He never told me I was too big. We would always go out for pizza on Mondays. We would always talk about making the world teams. We would always play ping pong in the basement. We would always have inside jokes. We would always room together in the hotels. We would always talk about our favorite players on the circuit. I remember taking him out for his 19th birthday. We would have wild road trips and have loads of fun. We would scream japanese gibberish in the dojo- as if we were at the universities. We both put the work in when we started Saratoga Judo Inc.- installing mats, sweeping, etc. We ran to get a chicken, bacon, ranch pie at the pizza shop around the corner after we were done. We did anything to help one another. We loved it. We loved each other. One time at judo camp, he ran up to my car as I had arrived and as soon as I got out- he jumped on me and wrapped his legs around me with a big hug. He was special. I'll never forget those moments.
