Really, like, why? And, how are we reading it if he would be dead and the only two that could tell his story probably will not? could be some magic reason, like we the viewer are just gods or if he’s telling the story to us after he died, but if it’s a realistic reason then damn I would like to know My theory is that he wrote it on somewhere before dying and some time later someone discovered his body and the note and published it or brought it to attention I just hope my little guy was/got justice

I'd like to think that he somehow managed to survive. Idk, maybe he was found, and he tells this story years/decades later, after the war, feeling ashamed of what happened

My ‘fic theory’ (miss you MatPat) is, in a TL:DR way to put it: Achterberg wasn’t that great of a human, even before the war. He either was a SA’lter or a P-word, either way, a criminal. And I know criminals were allowed to go and fight in the war, and the way Achterberg was mad about the Good Deeds system and the whole system in general seems like something that would be put for criminals, like make them do good deeds while fighting the war to have some advantages or be free. So he’s most likely a criminal. The P-word/SA’lter came to me after how he brought up the topic of Kuznetsov‘s son, what he said during it and how Kuznetsov reacted. “How old is your son now?” - Wouldn’t be the most strange thing to ask, probably was normal for people to ask that during a war or in prison, and also to react angrily, since well, most fathers would like not to be reminded of their kids while in war, but, if you put the context of someone that you know is a P/SA’er asking you that, you probably would be angry, specially when the P/SA’er says that your kid was “A good and cute kid”, angry enough to break that cold personality you have and finally speak And we know they probably knew each other before the war since if you’re trying to forget your children as a way to cope with fighting in a war and being unlikely to see them again, you probably wouldn’t be spreading word about the existence of your children, and Achterberg said that Kuznetsov’s son WAS a good and cute boy, not that he SEEMED like a good and cute boy from stories It would also make more sense as to why Achterberg did what he did, since SA’ers are more likely of committing the act again, specially when left alone Still cant figure out why Kuznetsov just let it happen until the end of if they both were on Kahoots Your parently-instincts would probably kick in upon seeing someone committing SA or even talking about it to you, so strange Kuznetsov let it happen until some point. So, final theory is: It could be that Achterberg and Kuznetsov were friends or related and knew eachother before the war, but Kuznetsov knew Achterberg wasn’t the greatest of beings from his multiple acts of SA or P or even Grape (without G), which made Achterberg go to prison, but both ended up enlisting on the (Cold, I’ll assume) war, which there they met MainCharacter and both got interested in MC, but in different ways, Kuznetsov seeing MC’s innocence in a father-son way(which you can assume from him giving a extra clothing for MC to be less cold) and Achterberg in the creepy way, since SA’ers/P’s will first try to get friendly with the victim and desensitize the victim to the their touch before committing the act And mid the walk, Achterberg brought up his sick desires to Kuznetsov, after seeing how MC was weakened and they were alone, but Kuznetsov didn’t respond at first, but then Achterberg brought up some truce he did for Kuznetsov in the past (which I’ll assume is not being weird to his son) and that Kuznetsov now had to do some deed back for him, and Achterberg choose that Kuznetsov should remain silent and give a blind eye while he SA’d MC But, while Achterberg was doing the act to MC, Kuznetsov fatherly-senses could have kicked in and demanded Achterberg to stop, and since Kuznetsov from his description was beefier than Achterberg, he had to comply otherwise Kuz could have just beat the living out of him Holy F this took a while.

Achterburg (the SAer) and Kuznetsov both ganged up on the reader (point of view character) mid way on a walk. Achterburg forced himself onto the reader, he began taunting the poor man by tugging at his clothes and forcefully shoving snow into their mouth. Kuznetsov did nothing until the last minute, convincing Achterburg to get off of the reader. No intercourse happened between the two but the implied sexual themes and actions make this an attempted SA case

from what i can get from the story, no, he was only friends with the soldier that attempted to sa him. he wasnt sa'd (thankfully) because at the end the bad soldier shouts at him "Youre damn lucky today!" which he wouldnt if he succeded in his sa attempt
