Being reasonable, calm and cold as ice is actually 10x more scary than someone who's fired up, angry beyond belief and lost control. An angry person will make mistakes. Yes the color jack always wants to see in his victims is the gray with red veins. The purple is fear, then it turns into despair which is a better word for the emotion they experience

@@nengi2696 Apparently it is real but its from either the Manga or one of the side stories detailing the histories of the fighters. Way I read it, the original/real Jack the Ripper was so good at murdering that the police never caught him but someone was able to piece together his identity. This person eventually tracked down and killed the original Jack the Ripper but recognized that Jack wasn't the only murderer/evildoer to go unpunished so he adopted the moniker and went around killing those he thought needed to die (he was apparently mostly right.) When Brynhild went looking for human legends to fight, she spotted this guy and thought he was a much better choice than the original Ripper and so invited him to participate and he accepted. Incidentally, as plenty of folks have pointed out, Flek didn't Volund with Jack until after she saw her sister turn away to leave her to Jack which suggests that betrayal was the emotion that played the chief part in allowing that to happen which fits if this Jack was more of an anti-hero demonized by a society who didn't recognize what he was doing and drew distinction between him and his predecessor.
