I know I’ll never meet this man and I know my story would probably fall on deaf ears but I’d like to tell him he made me want to follow music. I was 13 when I saw the Blackpool lights video for Death Letter Blues and it actually changed my life not even being dramatic. I played call of duty all day and barely had any need for music. After that video I brought my old guitar out of my closet and finally gave it some love, bought cassette decks, 8 track players, a record player, guitar pedals all in an attempt to be like Jack. Now I’m turning 20 next year and I have his Airline guitar tattooed on my left arm and play guitar every single day. Thank you Jack, seriously.

My story reads differently but he has does the same thing for me.. I now attempt to play bass and acoustic 6 string. Eventually to an electric. He keeps me needing to go on and learn more, be better.. find myself, my inner musician... Wanted to my whole life but life happened. I learned of him in my 40 the year and covid shutting the world down.. I finally had a chance, time to really commit. How I missed him prior to 2020. I do not know but I'll never forget him. He's my spirit musician.. lol. Musical guardian angel. I learn from him constantly. So grateful.

For reals, he seems to be in a better place than I’ve ever seen him in. It could be that historically he’s just been putting on a cool, hard facade but he seems much less guarded and more genuinely present in the conversation. Notability, it feels like a conversation more than an interview. I like that that.

Maybe being a newlywed has a bit to do with it ? I've seen many 'interviews' of Jack's that are more like conversations, Conan O'Brien comes to mind but there's more ✌️ Edit: He's taking care of his health also, prolly spiritual as well as physical. He mentioned fasting, walking in woods etc. An old appearance with Stephen Colbert is pretty fun. Both raised Catholic they had a "Catholic Throwdown" to see who remembered more, lol

I’m 61 years of age, felt stuck in a rut with music, until I discovered him. A true eye opener, Now I listen to all kinds of new music…however he is one of my all time favorites, since that DVD was released I have seen him 6 times. Cant play a damn one of his solos, I swear This guy right here is not in love with the music you want to listen to, he's in love with the instruments and the sounds they can make and he knows how to make some sick riffs. He’s right about the tactile sensation of owning a an LP, Cassette or CD 💿physically. I always preferred having a hard copy of the music I buy. I will never give up my CDs and DVDS. I still buy them today. The current generation doesn’t understand the need for holding an item in your hands and reading liner notes. This makes listening to music better! I used to look at my LPs and read the information on them and look at the pictures while I was listening to music. This was better than listening blindly. I agree with Jacks philosophy but that’s because I’m older and come from the previous generation. Jack is brilliant and he keeps doing great things because he doesn’t rest on his laurels. Before vinyl, we had sheet music. And for the songs that weren’t written down, they were passed generationally, like a telephone game. Vinyl is such a tactile listening experience. You have to be intentional in choosing which record to listen to. When flipping through music on spotify, you might just give it 3 seconds and flip to the next song. I think vinyl makes you be more intentional with your music, and treat it with more respect. Music is something to be actively listened to and appreciated, contemplated on, etc.

What Jack is explaining in 28:20 is something, I think, all artists struggle with. Sometimes your art and intent behind it holds so much weight that it becomes something of a separate self. That it is not up for misunderstanding because it deserves to be seen in whole, which is hard to convey. John Frusciante, as a guitarist, struggled with how the identity and soul of his music was being received because it just held so much of it’s own soul and it deserved to be understood and seen fully- even if it was just him understanding and seeing in full for a while I feel this way about my art from time to time too. Sometimes half the battle is in the making of the art and the other is deciding the right time to share so the soul is better conveyed

He did joke about scented music, which is humorous, but actually there is an aroma associated with vinyl the opening of the fresh record sleeve the first time, that first deep whiff of the vinyl, the ink, it evokes something that helps create that reverence of music and art he spoke of; even an older vinyl album can have an oddly likeable musty cardboard aroma.

I'll be in Detroit area this summer, very much look forward to visiting 3rd Man. Last time I was on Cass Corridor was 1984 and it was a wild night to say the least. Love Jack White's creations.

Really liked this interview. I love how deep Jack thinks about music and pretty much everything else.

This is the best interview I've seen ever. It's artistically religious.

The first time I heard of Jack White was hearing him sing Hotel Yorba. So I went to Karma and ordered a White Stripes CD and it turned out not to be the one Hotel Yorba was on but it was cool I liked all those songs too. But what really drew me in was the imagery of Man and Woman in the songs and the artwork. Jack and Meg, Tarzan and Jane, primal and raw, high energy soul music. Guitar and the drum and that voice, Jack White has an incredible voice add to that the connection between him and Meg. I was hooked. Jack is one cool cat, a true artist, one of a kind, math, music and God in an ascending order. Where do your songs come from? Well you know I'm just so superior, truthfully I'm probably just a conduit and my radio is tuned to this frequency where it flows through me. Bob Dylan knows he just doesn't come right out and say it. You know that line Dylan sang, I reflect from the mountain so all souls can see it, in a Hard Rains Gonna Fall? That's what Moses did. Bob Zimmerman wasn't the poet Bob Dylan was. Jack used to sing and play with his hair hiding his face his songs were coming from the man you can't see. I'm probably just making all that crap up, soy bomb, are you savvy?

Wow! Great conversation. Thank you so much! I've been lucky enough to be an audience on one of his shows around 2014-15 and I don't remember if I even checked my phone once...and that was way before he started out with that 'demand'... His show and REM's are still the best concerts of my life 'till then. Just don't miss a chance to listen him live.

That was fun to watch and listen to. Great questions from an obvious music lover and Jack White, who I could listen to for hours, even when only talking. Thanks! And someone tell Jack, that Baseball isn´t olympic :)

I wish that movie theaters would use these pouches. I honestly think people would love the idea of knowing that they do because that's one thing that honestly keeps me away from going to the theaters these days. Disrespectful people (sadly usually younger people) you can't stay off your phone during the movie.

I've been a White Stripes fan for 20 years and I realize I've never seen Jack White talk. It's pretty weird.

The “Quill” ?!! Who is this dude??? Man, Jack White is bringing true sonic analog culture. Not some sterile computer shit. Yet, he may use some digital tech. He knows the true sound of music, film, etc. is through real tangible-analog technology.
