LIke you I have been a hard core fan of his, but since the beginning of the 60's. The man was the greatest alto player next to Bird, and actually I have listened to him even more because hardbop is really where it is at for me. He was a pure genius of a musician and a wonderful giving person with a beautiful soul. Our world is so much richer for having had him here on earth sharing his gifts. He'll never be forgotten or unlistened to.
Hypnosis !!! J Mac conveys the feeling and mode of being in that state. It’s not about licks or lines it’s the music painting the picture. His solo could be used on a Outer Limit or Twilight Zone show. Some ( a lot) of people don’t have the ears or mind for this. It’s why they can’t experience a JMAC ATTACK.
Simply awesome. I've been a hard core fan of Jackie McLean since I was a youngin in college back in the 70's. This particular cut will clearly demonstrate why. E'nuff said.......
Such geniosity, can be sometimes so generous for our ears, most of us can't hear it..So it falls back and underground.I surrender to this wonderful energy.
this was and still is "hip", hypnotizes one but is anything but hype ! thanks for posting and me too never found it on cd ! Dr Higgins Rimshot.......quite a bit too much present & loud.
Some scarce Jackie stuff has been coming out intermittently on Japanese CDs. They seem to go in and out of print pretty fast. Go to CD Japan and poke around. I hope they get around to this...and "Street Singer" his collaboration with Tina Brooks. Also, check out Archie Shepp's version of this here on RU-vid.
One of my favorite Jazz-Tunes of all times! Unfortunately you don't get it on CD or as Download. I've been looking now for about 20 years, so thank you very much for uploading this!
Two things I really can't understand. 1. Why didn't LaMont Johnson participate in many albums? He is really amazing. 2. Why didn't Blue Note release this album for 11 years? Of course, I don't think this album is as good as One Step Beyond, Destination Out!. But this album is a enough good in its own right.
