Jacking Up A Wood Shed DIY Repair

I'm going outside the shop and doing a different kind of job out in the woods. This wood shed is sinking into the ground and needs some help so I will jack it up and lay some new footings. The work went pretty smooth as nothing was too rotted out and the fall weather was nice.

Looks like a beautiful part of the world you're in. I've just had to jack up my workshop to level it. Hopefully mine will end up as solid as yours!

Definitely gave me a couple new ideas for lifting my 26 year old shed, with limited rear access. Thanks

Well done. I just built a brand new 12X8 shed and realized when it was all said and done I have a gap in the middle of the back wall. I don't need to go to extremes but going to jack it up and put a couple solid cinder blocks like what you used under it. Thanks.

That's a great repair job with some real problem solving to get at what you needed access to. However, I was more overwhelmed by the idea/job of removing and then replacing/restacking all of that firewood!

Nice approach. I'd have been figuring out teardown and rebuild with same wood; 98% of the lumber looked worthy. Thanks for posting.

"Maybe overkill." nope, if it's worth doing, it's worth overdoing.

Maybe in the future think about putting a gutter on that back eave so the water from rain and snow doesn’t erode what earth is underneath that foundation. 🤷‍♂️

Great Job Mitch as always. That wood shed will be there long after the house is gone. What a beautiful area. Lucky man, enjoy my friend. Looking forward to your next posting.

This was really well done and I am going to need to do a similar repair….unfortunately, this will all be for naught as he didn’t use a damp proof course, ie a moisture barrier between the concrete block and the wood. The damp will rise up through the concrete, and rot the wood. You can use metal, tar roofing or even tar paper. It’s unfortunate. The other suggestion of putting a gutter/eavestrough on the back is a really good one; divert the water away before it causes a problem.

Great job man. I am facing the same problem !... only I have a shed full of very heavy machine tools and very cold/wet weather (UK weather November 2022), so taking everything out of the shed to lift it isn't an option !... now trying to work out best way to deal with a sagging rotten floor foundation without totally emptying the shed, as my lathes and milling machines do not like damp, wet weather ! - Wish me luck in sorting this huge mess out ! Best wishes from England. 👍👍👍

Great Job Mitch. You can add a framing carpenter to your job title. I have a couple of bottle jacks in my workshop from watching a video of yours from years ago. Very useful. We call them 'Tech screws' in Australia

Nice repair but your going to get snow and ice trapped between the stone wall and the shed wall. no way for it drain away till spring. It will freeze and thaw all winter. Your sill should last but the siding shows some sine of water damage. The boards being vertical helps with that. Nice few day's out of the shop before the weather turns to cold. Love your video's

Hi, great video, as usual. Don't you miss a humidity barrier between concrete blocks (bricks) and wood? Like a piece of plastic or rubber sheet?

When I jacked up my shed with a jack like that, my shed kept moving while it was being jacked!

I made the mistake of having a shed built too close to neighbors fence, less than 2' space. I need to get in there to jack it up to add more cinder blocks

Yep the bridge blocking was a good idea and the center piers , makes a huge difference indeed. Reminds me i need to order some more of your zinc patina pretty soon, you still on Ebay?

Однако, нужно было доску, поражённую грибком убрать. И антисептиком все обработать.

I would like to buy a couple of push sticks to support the channel. Unfortunately ebay is a huge nightmare to navigate and paypal always says my cards are invalid even though thats absolute bullshit so.. Is there any other way to by anything from you? I'd even consider a cutting board. Any way that doesn't include paypal.
