The problem with what JackSepticEye (Sean) said is that he is just mindlessly regurgitating the same talking points that activists online have been saying about RE5 for years since it's release which is the game is apparently racist because it takes place in Africa and you are playing as a white guy shooting/killing black people in the game. There are multiple problems with this argument however. The Africans that you are killing in the game are people who have turned into infected hosts from a viral outbreak, they are not just regular, innocent people. The virus was released by Albert Wesker (a white guy btw) and Chris along with his African partner Sheva Alomar (who a lot of the activists conveniently tend to leave out of their criticisms of the game) are sent in to stop him and the Tricell corporation from continuing to spread this new virus across the globe, not go on a mindless killing spree of innocent African people. RE4 pretty much has a similar plot where Leon is sent into a Spanish country to rescue the President's daughter and he has to kill a bunch of Spanish people who have turned into infected hosts and nobody ever says that RE4 is racist, so how is RE5 any different? What about RE6 where you kill a bunch of Chinese zombies in China as a white guy, is that game considered racist to now? Hell even in RE2 and 3 there are few black zombies that you kill throughout those games and yet nobody calls those games racist. The point is, is that these idiots online constantly point the finger at RE5 being racist simply because you are fighting zombies who just so happen to be black people and I guess black people are the only race that you can be racist to but every other race is fair game I guess and Sean who lacks critical thinking in his statement doesn't realize how stupid, bias and double standard driven these "criticisms" of RE5 are and have been for years. Hell even the creators of the game and the VA's for the characters said back in the day that "the game is not racist, it just happens to take place in Africa, just have fun and play the game".

I can only wonder if his opinion would have changed if he publicly played RE5 or if he was thinking too much into how the "next" remake title could be an issue. I wonder if Sean was aware of the argument of both sides. Pointing out the "obvious racial conflict" indicates that he's aware of what people are concerned about, but he should dig deeper into it. Acknowledge that the talking points from activists were silly when compared to the settings in re4 & re6 (which took the adventure worldwide) and discuss the bigger picture about it.

some people might not realize this, but not everyone from Africa is black, the game even reflects this by adding a couple of white zombies in the mix, but from what I'm hearing, a lot of people seem to think that RE5 is racist since it takes place in Africa, you don't often hear about RE4 being racist even tho it has zombies speaking Spanish, they seem fine about that but not RE5? it's racist just because it has black zombies? like fr, it makes no sense, some people just don't understand what racism actually is, but please correct me if I'm wrong and I'm hoping this comment doesn't sound racist, so please correct me since I feel like what I'm saying might be controversial, but tbh, capcom should make a remake anyways, no matter what anyone says, and I personally stand by what I said also a little edit here, if Chris was racist he would have shot Josh Stone aka Josh the guy you meet in the game, he is a black character so if Chris was racist he would have prob killed Josh if he was racist, but Chris isn't racist and the game isn't about shooting black people, it's about stopping an Outbreak.

@LocalGameaddict4506 at least we have sane people like you speaking facts when i started seeing people saying resident evil 5 is racist i didnt take these people serious this game been out since 2009! 16 years ago people call everything racist and most definitely dont know the definition of racism at all

@@Chroic some people just like to complain about things and paint whatever they can in a bad light, even if you give in to these crazy people's demands they still won't be happy, they just want to have something to cause drama about, and that alone worries me

@@LocalGameAddict4506 that it worries me to just look how our world is now we got race hustling clowns attacking one race of people and that is white people all thanks to activist's why can't we all just go back to the old days where nobody cares about race go back to when everything was about making good games and movies more fun without everybody getting offended at everything like we do now in this weak society we live in

you're concern is pretty valid. i'd like to imagine the goal of the remakes are to bring titles into it's most modern form, and they should be challenged with a re5 remake anyways. there are tones in re4 that can suggest racism but largely ignored because it was a large departure from re2 and nemesis, making the game feel like an action movie. and in re4r i'm sure the game's just as fun with the new engine from previous remakes. I wonder if calling re5 as racist is a "valid" argument only because the discussion about blm and black unfairness is still the loudest thing discussed in current culture.

I got clickbaited hard by nyrion lol. Is there something I should be corrected or something from Jack that gives better context? RE5 i'm sure can be made in the next few years; it's unclear how they're gonna write it if RE4 remake insists that Umbrella became quite after Raccoon city compared to how in the original re4 the wording made it sound like umbrella was "done for and disappeared"

Maybe you should play RE5 before making a 30+ minute video on it. Got a LOT of info wrong n the first 10 minutes

@@wtphuFirst, some reviewers DID find RE5 offensive immediately after the first teaser released. It got to the point to where two of the black voice actors defended the game’s setting basically saying RE games have taken place in a number of places and that it wasn’t racist then so it shouldn’t be racist now. The character Sheva Alomar is also half African. She was raised in Africa and studied abroad in England. Some people at the time said it was a cop out to only make her half African but yeah, just a little clarification on her ethnicity. In terms of what people in the present day think of how the racial themes were handled in the game, most people still take issue with the cartoonish representation of the infected tribals starting in the marshlands chapter.

@@danteaerosolas a black person we did not find the game racist. African ppl who played the game actually loved the game. All the political bullshit in video games needs to stop, and other groups need to stop caping for groups they’re not a part of. We need RE5 back and in Africa just with modern controls and bits of story changes here and there.

Just do some research on the reception of the game on release, what changes were made to make it more paletable and fan perception of how different RE5's arcadey action focus was recieved compared to older titles even RE4 which was also more action but horror focused. RE5 is actually a pretty good game but it's a mixed discussion because some fans are split about what it does for the franchise overall and if that's good or bad. However it can't be denied it contributed strong iconography and memorable moments to the broader franchise, i mean RE5 Chris, Wesker and Wesker were added into Marvel vs Capcom alongside Jill for a reason. A lot of these concerns are old old news that no one who knows this game actually care about anymore. Just a little research, you'll be fine.

The discourse came from ppl who aren’t even black. That’s the biggest issue. Us black ppl and Africans as well loved the game. Who cares what a group thinks about something if it doesn’t even involve them.

The only thing i've heard black friends talk about is how unplayable some re5 moments are. We were softlocked from finishing re5 because in multiplayer Sheva couldn't make the quicktime during the volcano segment.

I get what the other commenters are trying to say, but the game got so many good reviews and did great to the fans that the controversy went a lil unnoticed. I beat the game 100 times over since release and not once did the racial aspect of the game ever stand out enough for ppl to eventually not play it. One thing I should say as a black man other races shouldn’t pick and choose what is “racist” toward us because it creates false narratives. Nobody saw the game as an issue except “white” gamers. Us black gamers love Resident Evil, speaking for most or all of us none of us had an issue with the Africa location. So I completely understand where you’re coming from. Literally where is the racial conflict coming from? It’s weird. In RE6 if I remember correctly Chris was in China, I do not remember any uproar against the location or killing against Chinese, because we love gaming and do not care for the politics. 😭😭😭

As this was my first time playing, from the moment I dropped into RE5 I was to busy avoiding death from zombies and punching out boulders to really read too much into the game. The loudest example of racism is often black culture, and anything that poorly misrepresents others (like asians for example) are VERY often looked over and commented as "not aged well". It's "not" brought up as racist when the final boss were the Bakers, Weskers, William Birkin, Nicholai Ginovaef, or even Simmons.
