How is it possible to talk about gun violence without talking about the ideas of masculinity instilled in American boys from a young age? TED speaker and best-selling author Jackson Katz helps us look at the connection between these factors, which he’s been writing about since Columbine.

JACKSON KATZ: IS GUN VIOLENCE A MEN'S ISSUE?
We felt that we needed to have a conversation on the effects of masculinity on gun violence and mass shootings in the United States. Media coverage and national dialogue rarely connects these tragedies to issues of manhood and misogyny. There’s no one that has been writing and speaking about this longer and more consistently than Jackson Katz, PhD-bestselling author, internationally renowned educator, and a major figure in the movement for gender equality. In this special episode, he brings his expertise to a timely conversation with passion and urgency, imploring men to reexamine what it means to be a protector and have the moral courage to fight for policies that truly serve our society.
The Man Enough Podcast is produced by Wayfarer Studios and presented by Procter and Gamble, in partnership with Cadence13, an Audacy company.

A guest on the Red Table Talk, Dr. Jillian Peterson used the term “Entitled grievance” in relation to mass shootings, this episode confirms just that! This podcast is ohhhh so important. Thank you 🙏🏽

Thank you so much for having this conversation. Thank you also for talking about how bullying plays into creating school shooters. As a society, we don't seem to really take accountability for how our own actions are playing into driving people to this point.

Jason Katz was awesome as always and i vote to have him back on the show again. Liz i so agree with you saying it is a societal problem not a mental health one regarding to the dymamic of power. Great show as always. ❤

18 mins in and had to stop and say how grateful I am for this video. Mankind's adolescence is going to be real long. That said with the understanding that the body of humanity grows at a different rate than a single individual. With these efforts and similar, we will get through eventually.

I love everything you’re doing! I think the audience would benefit from a longer conversation, because I feel like all the time, you guys could get so much deeper if you had more time to do so, because even with this conversation it just touched the surface! But thank you for all you do, to bring awareness!

As a European I always wondered if there was anyone in the US who realized the weapons madness they had, and now thanks to this podcast that I just discovered I finally know the answer. I wish my best wishes, luck and strength to all Americans to win against violence and have a safer and more peaceful life.

I appreciate how original this conversation is. This episode and the second Giacomo Gianniotti episode are why I am such a big fan of this podcast. There is no hesitancy to discuss the deepest insecurities we as men feel but are pressured not to talk about. I love you all so much.

Look to the parents. Some of these kids who do Mass Shootings are also abused and bullied at home as well. They feel totally powerless everywhere. 😥 It's extremely sad

There is so much trauma that goes into these acts and that is certainly one of the sources. It's devastating.

If we talked about The RU-vid shooter Jennifer San Marcos. or Laurie Dann's or Brenda Spencer or Amy Bishop or Litina Williams. Over half the mass shootings it be called mysogyny

Great episode! Such important conversations to have right now. I particularly resonated with the idea that staying silent on the issues of masculinity and violence (gun violence in this case) and refusing to talk about it is more harmful than saying the "wrong thing". It's not about agreeing 100% with each other all the time but if we can have the conversation I feel like it will go a long way in bridging the gap as it relates to this issue and frankly most other issues as well. Thank you! ❤️

I'm sorry I just got to this but ironically it's my anger around this topic that has kept me distracted from this. But after all of the amazing things said here I do want to add to my conclusions in terms of what we can do because I've lost sleep over this for the past few months. I joined the groups Liz mentioned and I have voted and will continue to vote but these things still feel far and beyond my immediate surroundings. I can't wait for legislations, I can't only hope and keep my fingers cross the statistics continue to be low enough that this won't happen to me or my loved ones. So my question was then how do I protect my kid? But that very quickly turned into how do I protect all the kids in my community who I see at the park, who are friends with my child, who I see getting on and off the bus everyday, who's names I know and who I've even cared for. And then the question was how do I protect my kids (community kids) from gun violence AND ALSO other types of violence and abuse. because a child could survive a school shooting but that's not the only death to be suffered? and after discussing it with many MANY people, looking at the data available, and desperate search for answers I have been able to come up with one answer alone in addition to voting and marching and funding: building a stronger and closer supportive community for everyone in my community... adults, grandparents, parents, kids, teens and youth... communities that support each other, that listen to each other and find solutions together... I could go on and on about why this is the only solution, not only for this but so many of the things we want to protect our children from. I always appreciate these amazing learning episodes. Thank you!

Thank you so much for sharing. This is so difficult and hard to cope with, especially as a parent. We agree - it is essential that we form strong, supportive communities and love each other. Love these kids who feel so alone and lost, thinking that they can not share their pain or confusion. Sending you compassion and strength. We're glad you're here with us.

I literally agree with everything you said there the four of you, I’m a woman and I just see in the man of my family certain pain related to this issue and to all of these issues that you talk in here… It’s amazing that we don’t put in the table this kind of conversations… I hate that boys are so related with violence.🥺

Gun violence isn't a man's issue, it's an American issue.

It's true that gun violence is disproportionately an issue in the US. However, most of if is carried out by men, so it is both, or more specifically an American men's issue.

You can find outliers with any trend… not really sure what kind of point you’re trying to prove here. The fact is an overwhelming majority of mass shooters are male. Naming a handful of female perpetrators doesn’t change that fact.

@@clairem8084 So what are you claiming exactly?
@sentientfetus3894
@sentientfetus3894 2 года назад
@@clairem8084 you mean over half of all mass shooters shootings themselves are out liars. Yet want turn the USA into the CCP that killed children by the millions because socialist doesn't work and George Carlin said it's hypocritical to appose welfare and going out of your way to kill people. And always after taking people's guns away. Do you think the Uyghurs have it better they have to worry about rare examples of school for mass shootings
