This is the thing though, jackson is not a kpop idol anymore. His image has clearly moved towards the west since it allows him to express his art how he wants without the pressure of korea. His new album is amazing and his coachella performance was actually insane.

I literally just attended his sold-out Magic Man show at the Barclay Center. The tickets were expensive, yet 19000 New Yorkers still came out to see him and even went to his Nebula after party which was also expensive. As far as I can see, people are eagerly awaiting Magic Man 2. Jackson is very successful in the US right now, also most of the mainstream West does not consider him a K-pop idol, they view him simply as an artist and entertainer. He is generally loved and when I see people hate on him, it is usually because he is Chinese.

Lmao the hate for him is only on shitty platforms like twitter and we all know how valid twitter opinions are, his entire arena tours are sold out, his songs are bops, he is doing so fucking well. He is an great artist, a great performer and a great human being. People are just mad that he has the balls to express himself better than their idols could and that he isn't afraid of being himself. I think this should be a wake up call to people that kpop sells an image and an idea of who the idols and artists are and should take everything the idols do and portray with a grain of salt. I mean Jackson is still part of a member of a K-pop group but he's not really involved in the K-pop industry judging from what he's been doing since him and the rest of the members left jyp. I think what he's doing is to break out of the K-pop image and try to reinvent himself as an artist. He wants to explore different parts of himself and experiment, something he wasn't able to do as a K-pop idol. But apparently not many people seem to like that and it seems like people are still holding on to the idea that he's still a K-pop idol. But hey, if people don't like what he's been presenting, it's fine. He's not everyone's cup of tea.

The thing I've been concerned about was the possibility of a drinking problem, not just because of his talk with Eric, but also an older video where he downed way too much very strong Chinese alcohol as part of a sleep routine. However, according to another article I read, he goes full ham on his endorsements and that was why he was carrying Hennessy everywhere in the Magic Man tour and other events. He basically becomes a poster boy for whatever product deal he has at the time. There is also the whole thing about supporting the CCP, which I honestly just don't have enough information to make an informed feeling on the subject. There is also the complication of China not only being the CCP and the sinophobia that arose after Covid which is a genuine concern. That said, if Jackson does something you genuinely can't support, that's absolutely your prerogative to not support someone who is associated to or supports something you're against. The crappy thing is that we just don't know. There is propaganda in EVERY country and the west does make China out to be a bad guy no matter if it is actually doing something really crappy or just existing. China is also way too massive to make a judgment call on the whole country, because not everyone in China who loves China supports the CCP and the actions therein. It's more complex than people give it credit for. Also, Jackson isn't an ambassador, he's not trained to be diplomatic in the same way to be talking with clarity and level of knowledge required to discuss political issues.
