I'm 54 and my wife and I are VERY worried about our future, gas and food prices rising daily. We have had our savings dwindle with the cost of living into the stratosphere, and we are finding it impossible to replace them. We can get by, but can't seem to get ahead. My condolences to anyone retiring in this crisis, 30 years nonstop just for a crooked system to take all you worked for.
@@JasonStathamOffical That's actually quite impressive, I could use some Info on your FA, I am looking to make a change on my finances this year as well
“It feels like the air is sweating” is the perfect way to describe the humidity in Florida. You really have no idea how yuck hot it is until you come to Florida.
23 years in Detroit......50 years in Jacksonville.......we are the best kept secret in Florida...Love this city and all the different personalities of the neighborhood communities..
I grew up in the south side of Jacksonville, lived here since 1969, this is a large city with no real imagination for real , run by democrats, school system still sucks, crime steadily getting worse, beaches unsafe at night, west side has shootings daily, downtown is ugly, rental prices are in the stratosphere, job market sucks. I wish we had moved away permanently after my husband left the military.
I grew up in the jacksonville area…I remember street gangs and school fights/guns/drugs running rampant…I got jumped and robbed at like 13 walking to the library Seen multiple kids killed IN or around school from fights. Suicides. So idk, maybe downtown jax is fine, but I remember the south side being a war zone…
@@blue18404 so many options! It depends on what you’re looking for. We have lots of waterfront, great gated communities and areas with tons of charm like Riverside, Avondale and San Marco.
Jax is one of the best places to live for me. Been in San Diego, Anchorage, Hawaii and half of my life in the Philippines. The area doesn’t limit you from traveling to different states. It’s like the middle ground of everything, I take my family West (Springs), South (Amusement Park), North (Winter Snow), and while living in the east side year round by the water. Nothing beats it. Downtown is slowly booming and it will get there, it has so much potential with that water access. The beaches are awesome and you can drive you car to the beach.
Hello,I wanted to ask you a friendly question. We are a family of 4 and we are thinking to move from Sweden to Jacksonville. I wonder if is it a good place for a family with small kids? Is it safe from hurricanes? Is it top mucj criminality and does it affect you in daily life?Does it have good schools, good hospitals, good jobb opportunities, good standart and quality of living? Does snakes and aligators appears everywhere like around the houses or in the park roads? Please if you have a friendly advice for me,I would really appreciate it. Thank you in advance.
@@bobo-jx1mk It’s a good place, schools are good especially in St. John’s county it’s rated as one of the best if not the best in Florida. I would suggest to get a feel for the area first before committing on moving full time. That’s what we did anyways. As for crime rate it isn’t that bad, it’s the same as any areas you go there’s places that are prone to but not everywhere. Housing isn’t bad at all, that’s what makes people move down here coz it’s cheaper than being upstate. Jobs there’s tons of opportunities, I would scoop out how your current job would reflect here before letting things go, so your transition won’t be as bad. The only thing out here that’s different would be the amount of driving you’re about to do coz Jax is massive. I highly suggest taking a trip here and check the area first.
@@bobo-jx1mk Hurricane wise Jax is the best place to be at in Florida. We rarely get them here. We have great hospitals here. Mayo Clinic is rated 53rd in the world. Then you have UF health, Baptist etc. tons of options. Gators, I haven’t seen one yet. Except in the zoo, I know there’s some but it ain’t as crazy as people say it is. Not as crazy as the south anyways. Tons of Gator fans though 😂 (University of Florida mascot)
I have been following your channel for close to a year now and I have to say this is by far one of your best video. Love the local interaction super insightful. This is making me super hype about moving to Jax next year. Thanks for all the videos you have been posting.
Happy that my family and I chose this realtor who provided us a lot of great informative and usable information about this Jacksonville area prior to reaching out to him and after we first engaged in business.
Jacksonville is definitely the most affordable / relevant city in Florida to live in Miami and all the nearby cities are absolutely amazing but insanely expensive
Grew up here. Everyone moving here is making it very difficult for people who grew up here to be successful. Cost of living has sky rocketed and paying rates aren’t going up. The whole city is expensive.
Honestly I’ve seen a lot of videos of Realtors sugarcoating Jax for sales but this is the 1st one I’ve seen that’s actually pretty honest and straightforward. Interviewing a mix of locals that moved to Jax and were born and raised from Jax was a great idea! Just to add my 2 cents, I agree with most of these opinions especially from brotha man lol. As a Jax Native who moved away but visits from time to time… I can honestly say it’s not that bad. There’s more good areas than bad areas and there’s stuff to do if you look hard enough, from the Central Area like Downtown, Murray Hill, Riverside/5pts, Brooklyn/San Marco to the Beaches, Southside & Towncenter, there’s something for everyone. I moved away because I ended up liking moderate seasons (that humid Jax heat 9 months of the year is oppressive), mountains & more bustling liberal cities(West Coast Best Coast) but if you’re someone coming from elsewhere in the country who want a cheaper cost of living, with the Fl lifestyle mixed with Georgia twang then give Duval a spin. Just avoid the Westside(Argyle is nice but that’s basically Orange Park) and the Northside (south of Dunn Ave and parts of Oceanway) & you’ll be alright. Side note: That $5 Billion dollar plan better give Jax a new Landing, Theme Park, a light rail or something. I always said the peak of Jax was around 2013-2015 when One Spark was a thing. Jax was finally on the verge to get their own annual SXSW festival…but then it stopped. Unless you’re a SEC fan or a jazz fan, the Jazz Fest & FL/GA game ain’t enough. Oh & Go Jags. 😂
The news gives Jax such a bad name. It like any other city, you have some good parts and bad parts. I truly believe that most of the people that say Jax is Bad, are looking for negativity ALL THE TIME!! 😂
I was born here in Jax but have lived in DC and Baltimore and I have to laugh when people talk about the traffic and it being unsafe. Jacksonville is a fantastic city to live and work in and raise a family. All of Florida seems to cater to tourists. I'm fine without that right in my city. It's easy to have a long weekend in Orlando or Miami and enjoy going home to no chaos.
I totally get what you mean! Jacksonville definitely has its own charm and offers a great balance of work and family life without the constant tourist hustle. It’s nice to have a city that’s more relaxed and still close enough to enjoy the excitement of Orlando or Miami when you want. Thanks for sharing your perspective!
Thanks for your very informative video. I'm from Jacksonville currently living in Memphis, Tn I moved with my job (radio) & I have been here 26 years! Graduate of Andrew Jackson High School & Bethune Cookman (now) University When I was there, I worked on WZAZ, WPDQ, Hot 101.5 & 92.7 The Beat which is now 93.3. The Program Director (GWiz) I brought him in radio we had a mix show. (good ol days) Anyway, I've been trying to move back since before the pandemic! I'm thinking when my lease is up in December, GOD willing I'm coming home. I'm still packed & work on air from home WURE. However, I am a hostage here crime is very bad and nothing like it was when I moved here! This coming from someone who grew up in Moncrief! You will be hearing from me. I'm torn between a house or an apt. All my immediate family is there but so much has changed. Again, Thanks for this video
Very informative video. I have been considering a move to Jacksonville for a long time and I have made my decision just by watching your video, I will give it a try. Thanks.👍👍
As a local in Jacksonville, I never feel unsafe and the city is fine. Yeah our city has issues like everywhere, but we are chill versus Orlando, Tampa, Miami. I live in the less fancy neighborhood and all is good here y'all!
I haven’t either! I’m always confused when people call a say “I’ve heard there’s a lot of….” I’m always like “when and where” because I don’t see it!! 😂
Yes, I can see myself living in Jax, I lived there in 2006 on the westside jammes rd and 103rd. Now I have to convince the wife. She is a New Yorker and she doesn't like Palm Beach County anymore lol, lol. Thank You for this video.
My wife and I are definitely looking at exploring new horizons. And we're in. Between Florida and Texas. But hearing the reviews from actual citizens from Jacksonville, I think I'll take a chance on this move.
My husband is from Chicago and we lived in Canada for the last 12 years, I’m Canadian. We were between tx and Florida and chose Jacksonville because it’s a big city and more opportunities… we’ve been here a month living in the north side and I think we made a mistake. I don’t love it here, I don’t feel safe but I don’t feel unsafe but I wouldn’t walk the streets. Pitbulls everywhere and I have chihuahuas, I can not walk my neighborhood and supposedly it’s not a bad neighborhood but it’s the worst I’ve ever seen in my lifetime. We are here because rent is reasonable and we are trying to not spend all our money while we figure out what we are doing. I feel like we should have never left Canada at this point and or gone to Texas. I hope that changes soon. We should have broke the bank and moved to the south side. This is just too hood for me.
Yes, in the popular/coastal areas. Living in Cali, living near the ocean is virtually impossible, price wise. I think it's slightly still possible in Jacksonville. You should do a segment on the threat of hurricanes/insurance if you have not.
Not living in JAX but been to Florida a few times. I live in a major city in the South so yes it gets hot down here for a very long time. The cost of living went up everywhere in this country from housing to food. I wouldn't rate JAX as an expensive city just a bit overpriced in terms of housing costs, but not too crazy like other big cities in Florida. Every major city has crime infested areas but if you aren't into gangs , selling drugs or just be a criminal you aren't going to have to deal with crime most likely.
My partner and have lived in Jax for almost 4 years and I def agree with most of the statements. We came from NY, so it honestly feels like an long term vacation. I agree the heat is STRONG, but it’s Fl so I just wait until after 6 if I can to go outside if it’s too hot. Unless we want to go to the beach. Honestly coming from NY traffic, I don’t find the Jax traffic to be bad. Unsure if it’s bc of the time of day I’m traveling or the fact that we have more than 3 lanes so that’s already a win. When it comes to things to do and public transportation, I agree, it can be better. I still don’t know how to drive, so I have to rely on my bf or Uber to commute which sucks when I have to be on someone else’s time. But again, I knew that’s what Fl was. It’s a driving state. When it comes to things to do, I do believe Jax is improving in that area. It def requires creativity of finding new things to do, but to me it’s worth it. And when they do have events, they do it well. Always something for kids and adults. Never overly packed. Relatively clean. And people are generally nice. Overall, I give Jax a solid 8. I do think it’s better when you make NY salary and live in Fl. When I was working in Fl, my salary was horrible. Def wouldn’t be living in the apartment/ community we do now if I stayed at that job.
Brother, my wife and I binged your content for weeks last year and we moved here 2 months after visiting some of areas you recommended. I have to say thank you for shining light on this beautiful city. We have been here for a year and 3 months now. We ONLY focused on the positive aspects of the city and avoided the “crime” content while doing research. This is another great video! Peace!
Recalling back in the mid 90s, when Jax 'employment plantations' were closing as fast as they were opening. Many people were moving here for those jobs, only to be looking for new employment within 1-3 years. Reason? DEI 'culture shock'....
I’ve been visiting for two weeks and the rain has been on-going since I arrived. I think i came at the height of rainy season 🥴. So please if weather throws off your mood/mental please be aware. I will say the people are kind and cost of living is doable(rent is cheap, but groceries are big city prices)
Great video! Currently living in California 5 blocks from the water. Today I spent 2 hours on the freeway and seriously considering selling and retiring to Jacksonville in the next 2-3 years. I'm debating Jacksonville or going back to Peru during this next chapter in my life.
Don’t do it. If your only problem is traffic, and you can live comfortably in California. Stay there, I promise you will hate it here. 2-3 years? Jax’s fwys will be just as bad as the ones on the 405. Rain pours freakin hard you can barely see, people drive like assholes because of it, nothing compared to the sprinkles we have in LA. Lighting always accompanies the rain and people been getting hit from it. Not only is traffic getting bad, anytime you go into the heart of JAX or leave outside of it, you have to take bridges and that’s when it gets scary with the heavy rain and possible accidents on that bridge. And you can be near the water in LA without shit biting your feet and legs! With a nice breeze all the time! Florida is not for the weak or for born and raised Californians with the most perfect weather!! IT IS SO DAMN HUMID HERE!! Worse at the beach too! Don’t take your weather for granted, I had no idea how bad the weather is here!
Safety: East of the River => very safe West of the River => Dice Roll I lived in Riverside, been robbed and my neighbor was murdered. Some nice neighborhoods be a couple blocks away from the hood. But overall, I Love Jax! Great people, great diversity and so much to do! Just stay out of Moncrief and you love it here lol
Jacksonville is a lot of small towns or communities grouped together to make one big city. As such it doesn't have a big down town where there are great restaurants and clubs. It is basically a big city with a small town feel in some ways. Nothing much going on. The beaches are largely undeveloped as well. Lots of jobs although this is the south so you can expect to make 1/3 less than NE and West coast. Homes are less expensive. Insurance is Very expensive. Even more humid in summer than South Florida. No direct hits from hurricanes but the last couple years have seen hurricanes passing very close so expect tropical storm activity in season. Easy travel to GA, LA, SC, etc. Not a lot of direct flights from Jacksonville airport. Expect to have to fly to Atlanta etc to connect to flights going most places.
From Orlando, Jacksonville isnt for me. I wont trash it. But its a city that seems to lack the desire to grow or just doesnt like the other Florida cities? so much potential and a beautiful city.
Thank you for watching! We did a video on Jobs in the Jacksonville area.... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-V5Oe_HuS_4k.html I hope this helps!
Pretty good video overall..the older gentleman in plaid & the younger couple gave a better broad stroke picture of Jax. Everything needed is here you just need to be plugged in to the right channels. The one thing not mentioned and I have stated this to my wife is Jax need to figure out a way to promo when events are coming. A dedicated social media platform, twitter, instagram etc pumping out what coming. Unfortunately when you so hear about things it’s usually the day of the even or it has come and gone. Everything being 30 minutes away is great…somethings you don’t want close to home. Another thing that drive me up the wall from people that live in FLORIDA is when they say it’s HOT!!!! Really that why you live in FL the hot weather at least that why I live here haha Solid over all 👍🏾
All the bad reviews I got prior to having to move here I thought I was coming to a poverty stricken, war zone lol. I did thorough research and have been here over a year now and I have to say, I’m enjoying it. I feel safe in my southside bubble I stay in. I have no reason or desire to venture off into the sketchier parts of Jax. I actually have been really disappointed to hear though recently that some bad apples came to the town center and caused commotion a time or two. What I like though is the police presence that has shown up. I noticed them patrolling daily and thought something must have happened and looks like I was correct. Once people realize this is not a forgotten area hence why it took little to no time for police presence to become routine, maybe they’ll keep their antics away from here.
Does it flood very badly in Jacksonville, like it does in Charleston, SC ? And if so, what is the city of Jacksonville doing about upgrading the city infrastructure to decrease flooding ?
I lived in jax for 16 years. I have seen everything, good and bad. We definitely have a bunch of homless and crazy people, but overall, it is not too bad.
I’m from Jacksonville but moved away in my mid 20’s for a number of reasons. Primarily the lack of opportunity. I return to visit family and friends once or twice annually and have noticed the gradual decay every time I’m in town. Little by little. My friends don’t seem to notice or care because it happened so incrementally. It’s sad to see. It has been suggested that I’m seeing it through the lens of nostalgia, but there is clearly more to it than that. There is a pervasive and quantitative amount of decline. No matter how much the city tries putting into renewal projects, its all just a cheap, soulless façade covering up the rot beneath.
What i don't like about Florida is the grass. I'm from Massachusetts and i used to sit on the grass and played football and baseball in the grass and the grass up there is soft and cool and the grass here is hard and of course hot
Working class city with tons of old family wealth, old and new. But the very rich here live in exclusive communities with few issues. The other parts of town still need improvements and attention.
Can someone tells me which area I have to avoid? ‘Cause I want to move there in a couple of years from Italy and everyone says that the downtowns are dangerous in USA and is the opposite here in Italy. So I really didn’t understand which areas are good and which areas are bad
As real estate professionals, we can't direct buyers toward or away from specific areas. However, if you share your criteria with us-like your preferences for, amenities, and lifestyle-we can help you find neighborhoods that match what you're looking for.
I'd like to know why you hated it when you first moved to Jacksonville. Specifically, what was it that made you not be excited or fall in love with the city when you first moved there? I'm considering moving there. I've lived in a lot of different areas; originally from Pittsburgh PA, but lived in Charlotte NC, stayed in North Myrtle Beach with family for a few winters several years back and then I have lived in Austin TX for the last 6 yrs and recently had to leave (very long story), but one reason to be closer to my parents. So, I'm looking into relocating back to Charlotte NC and lately been really doing some research into Jacksonville. Just depends at this point which city offers me a position --- but looking into learning more about Jacksonville because, for me, it's a whole new experience and I'm definitely enjoying what I'm learning about the city thus far. So when people talk about the heat there, I guess I need to experience it because from living in Austin TX for 5 - 6 years, I can tell you a lot of people have the wrong idea of the heat there. Austin has subtropical weather and it can be EXTREMELY insane in the summers. We get the 100 (or more) degree weather with 50% - 80% humidity on top of it with no wind. Or the wind in summer seriously feels like you turned your oven to 450 and opened the oven door and BAM! That's the wind in the summer time in Austin. So, my two things I'm trying to learn more about is weather and crime (of course). This video was helpful on a certain level because you had people that lived there all their lives, but then I feel I need more input from people that are not from there from other states. Anyways, sorry for the long comment. But I'd love to know what made you dislike the place in the beginning.
To buy a comparable house in SC you will pay more. We have been looking in the Hilton Head, SC area and it is far more per sq ft than J’ville. In fact we started looking in Jacksonville because there is more house and better house for your buck than in SC.
Raised and lived in Jax all my life. Jax housing prices have gone to crap, locals can’t afford to live or move to nice areas of Jax getting pushed out, because high tax, high cost of living, blue state voting ppl migrating here, ppl keeping their remote jobs from out of state and taking advantage of our once low cost of living and housing, and ease of starting a business…

I’m new to viewing your channel, but I must say, very helpful. 😁👍🏻I’m preparing to get a divorce and leaving Salt Lake City, Utah here soon. Trying to start a new chapter of my life. My kids are pretty much grown, so I liked the idea of moving close to the coast again and going somewhere new and exciting. I’m originally from Southern California though. very helpful information.. thank you.🙂
I'm so glad our videos are helpful for you. Here's to a new chapter in your life!! Feel free to give us a call when you are ready to purchase your new home. 904-414-2274
I been in Jax's for a few decades😁, I was going to relocate for some other reasons🤔 But I believe I'm going to stay😏 Just remember there's no state tax income taxes
That's understandable. Because of Jacksonville's location, many hurricanes weaken to a tropical storm. The last hurricane to hit Jacksonville was 1964.
Overall, it’s not a bad place to live. Anytime I feel negative about it. I start thinking about like where would I be happier living and pretty much most of the time I don’t think I’d be any happier in other towns. airport is 30 minutes. I’m like four blocks from the beach. Restaurants are decently good for the most part and the weather is outstanding other than the scorching hot during July and August.
@@drrealestatejax I’m a Realtor as well. I look at different places to possibly move to in the South. I see a lot of Realtor videos like these. This is the first time I’ve seen a video where the Realtor interviews people. Great idea. It made the video more interesting and you get real perspectives from people that have lived there a long time and from people who recently moved there. Good luck out there!
I’m in Atlantic Beach. It’s perfect. All the city needs is ‘groups of people doing things’ and boom Jax is #1 in the nation. Add in real public transport, or anty up better cheaper delivery services and peer-peer services, a little entertainment it’s over. It’s just dead money and boring af. If all these little different areas just built on what’s already there we’d be the best
Im in midwest came from san diego rent way more in san diego and in midwest omaha ne, eau claire wi, etc than Jacksonville...why we moving there in few months plus way more to do than midwest and i hate snow lol
