The original Koji Tamaki song was featured in the Japanese TV movie about 李香兰(Li Xiang Lan) also known as Yoshiko Yamaguchi (山口 淑子, Yamaguchi Yoshiko, 12 February 1920 - 7 September 2014) a Chinese-born Japanese actress and singer. She was the original singer of many songs which became Teresa Teng's signature tunes.

@@IrisesInTheSun well am not as enamoured by D as his fans and had made my earlier comments after seeing their outrageous claims that he is better than Jacky , that he helps make Jacky famous to the world just bcos he did a cover of this song by Jacky. Jacky had won many prestigious music awards in his younger days including the World Music Award as the World best selling asian artiste . His international albums sales were close to that of MJ , a feat considering he is not singing in english and his sales were achieved outside mainland China market which was still relatively close to Cpop music at the time . Dont think D can ever top Jacky achievements nor is D a multi winner of any significant prestigious international awards.

I had always doubted that why all people say Jacky Cheung is one of the best, when there are so many incredibly talented singers out there. After listened to this song, I know why.
Jacky is one of The Heavenly Four in HK, since the late 80's. The other 3 are Leon Lai, Aaron Kwok, and Andy Lau. For me, Jacky has the best voice out of the 4.
As a matter of fact, the other 3 are in this group, based only on their looks and popularity as actors. They are extremely good-looking, compared with Jacky. It would be quite true to say out of the four, only Jacky excels as a singer. As for the other three, I enjoy watching their MV, their singing is only acceptable as entertainment. I must say there are quite a number of other singers much better than the 3 but not included in this group of "heavenlies."
Jacky was a original singer before leon, andy, and aaron. The other 3 was original actors and aaron was a professional dancer before becoming a singer.
The way I see it is that Jacky has the real singing talent. Aaron has the energy because he is the youngest of the 4. Andy and Leon are more comparable because of their good looks. That's why only Leon and Andy's fans fight all the time on who's better. It was ridiculous.
Different dialect but the pain still there from the original Koji to Jacky and Dimash is like different colors of the wind and every color it brings you still feel the chill deep down in your soul. Bravo 👏

He has so many hits that he still endlessly attracts fans and his songs are constantly covered in song competitions. Just last year he broke his own record and held 157 concerts . When I was about to enter the NY library I saw Dimash's parents who were also entering, Dimash's younger brother was our translator ... that was a nice meeting..I had some photos with them ....❤❤❤❤

This is by far the most underrated song sung by Jacky Cheung ever. Why this hasn't blown up I don't know, but it being a live concert is impressive in itself.

I have heard this song in 4 singers and in different versions and languages they are both great and gifted skilled singers adored them but the original composer and singer who sang this is koji tamakis a legendary Japanese singer is still the best version full of emotion that made him different

Listened to Koji then come here, both are legends in their own ways. If Leslie Cheung ever did this in his life, it may be the closest to Koji but we will never know. Jacky is greatest in many songs but this, Koji's is my favourite version, after all, the song was originally written for his vocal. I live in the best era.

AND judging from the comments, I assume many here can't distinguish the difference between Mandarin and Cantonese.... And for everyone who watched 'Love From Beijing' with it's original soundtrack (Cantonese), Stephen Chow sings the song. As for the dubbed Mandarin version, his voice is dubbed by Shi Banyu.
I’m here like most of you, because of Dimash. Not offending this very good singer. It’s that Dimash’s voice is so clean and his face is so tender, humble and transparent that even when he may not have the best diction, because doesn’t know the language, he did such a spectacular performance at The Singer and after. 🌷
