Jacob Collier is a super human in every way. I just discovered him a week ago, and after going down the most beautifully uplifting rabbit hole of his RU-vid videos, I’m absolutely astonished at his brilliance. I have no more words.

Jacob Collier’s philosophy is so wild that you can apply whatever he says to anything. As a storyteller, for example, I think the idea of discovering your own intention is so precious, i’ve realized that almost all my best storys comes from experimentation, just from a pattern that emerges from the ideas I put on the page, it’s fascinating that one of my biggest inspirations isn’t even a writer but a musician.

Saw him in concert last week in Denver. It's one thing to be able to write music the way he does which puts him in a category of his own, but then his WILLINGNESS, ability, outgoing positive nature, HUMILITY, and enthusiasm to SHARE how he does it with the world here in this video and so many other of his videos is truly a gift for the entire world. Is he one in a billion? Maybe. We're all so blessed to be here together to witness this.

@criticxyc Could be... Please feel free to enlighten me how he's *not* shown humbleness in this recorded interaction? Cherrs
@PragmaticOptimist_N7
@PragmaticOptimist_N7 3 месяца назад
@criticxyc Interesting take. I'm not saying you're wrong. I'd like to add a little something in though. So, let's take for instance someone like Michael Jackson (literally the 1st name that came to mind who's pretty much known world wide). Hopefully you know him and his works. Now, it's one thing to have a talent, and not use it. However, M.J. could've given masterclasses - look at his interviews when he goes off into himself on describing what he's creating. In Jacobs case - and I'm not up on everything and anything he's created /been part of. However, he pays homage to *some* of those that have come before him... inspired him, naming names and providing examples - even when the 'audience' remained quiet. Why? Maybe because he's pretty full-on/in-deep? I don't know what's going on in his head but ... HUMBLE - "having or showing a modest or low estimate of one's own importance. "he was humble about his stature as one of rock history's most influential guitarists" Similar: meek deferential respectful submissive self-effacing unassertive unpresuming modest unassuming As the questions and examples go on, he's even like 'look guys, sometimes I'm not sure what's going to work but HERE'S a way how I work things out. Here, take the box of tools and let your creativity flow. I'm not saying it's right, but who's to say it's wrong if you feel it's right for you? I just started... and being surrounded by blah blah blah dot dot dot.' To me (and I could be wrong here) it's more like 'A moment with... and hey, Ask Me Anything musical as we've got this time now, YOU'VE taken time out of your day to be here so hopefully we'll ALL walk away having learned something or had some fun connecting over pitches, rhthyms, sounds...ya know that thing many people think of as 'music'. May I ask how you'd present a Master Class on your own channel without saying it's a Master Class?
@PragmaticOptimist_N7
@PragmaticOptimist_N7 3 месяца назад
@criticxyc also, having talent and not using it is a waste. If one have a "gift" and choose not to share it, that's gonna build up in that person as they'll know that they're holding back. Coming from a musical background myself, one realises they power of music. When 'performing', one it emotionally naked. The 'listeners' aren't necessarily interested if you've had a relationship end that morning or lost a relative or had whatever issues getting to the venue. You are there because of them.. having paid /requested your presence or you're doing a PA. It's priviledge to be able to bless others with musical love seeds as I've witnessed so much delights around the world and experienced personally that EVERYONE has their own story to tell, if given the chance. So sure, if someone wants to talk to you about something you LOVE doing, and get paid for, if you sense they're genuine too, why not bring them into your world /share the space together and help them forget about whatever's holding them back as in that moment you're there as an enabler to their craft. It's symbiotic... we're somehow linked through this thing we love and all here for each other anyways... In this instance, they're asking HIM questions about himself after all. I've not studied his life in-depth, however maybe you could tell me if 'music was one of his communication tools as a child'? Not sure that makes all that much sense out of my head actually... lol? Lol. Either way, I'm prefer clarification over confrontation and look foward to your reply ;)

@@francisandthelights @francisandthelights I hear you... having been involved in the Entertainments industry for decades...one has to learn to learn from not only your own, but others experiences too.. I say that to say the following. How many "artistes " do you actually know that are the open book they are with you that haven't had their personal life dug into and perhaps someone they trusted rip them apart for a ft in a media segment? I'v my own biase.heck, we all have and furthermore SHOULD have because we're ALL individuals? I *feel* 👀 sense the passion he has for sharing his professional achievements with (for want of a better word.) Strangers. I'd be curious to know if he'd say he finds music is a *literal* language to him..? You appear to appreciate the talent he has but not how verbalise it. Others may just like him cos he dresses how he does - seemingly focused on coordinated coloured comfort... who knows. Being confident in something you love is kinda funny... if you hold back, emotions one may get called cold/ disinterested...stingy even?yet you may be able to talk about it for hours without feeling bored. Again, i could be wrong... Whittling down from even 25 songs for an album could be hard- what you wa t to create/presemt as your legacy NOW? Is it your best...do you do more... doyou just lock it off at time? People go to school and may be lessengaged with a math teacher... if he become too emotional.. well his examp,e of just aim for fun type thing when playing nd let it come together how YOU feel..guideit... could be like adding a flam in a minor chord to resolve the song. Eg, are you dissapointed/turned off by 1- what he's saying 2- how he's saying what he's saying 3- ? Cos I don't think he's being arrogant.. he's not sighing rolling eyes etc in this interactions-well I didn't notice those types of moment?
@PragmaticOptimist_N7
@PragmaticOptimist_N7 3 месяца назад
@criticxyc It sounds to me like ( and again, correct me where I'm wrong here) .. 1 - You don't like how he's saying what he's saying? However 2 - You appreciate the 'skill' he has? Either way, the end result ( to me at least) is to 'treat it like food'. An example could be - *IMAGINE* that you and I have been commissioned to write for someone else, we'd generally have an amount of time presented to us for the song completion, yes? We can only devote so much time to getting to know the individual/band before a demo/the song is finalised ( that's if "we'd" even get to meet them beforehand to get to know how they interact with the world and their inner head space/ How much is their "way of life " actually relevant to the song/music being produced?). If THEY are asking you or I or us questions about how *we* write, I personally and professionally don't believe how us spending too much time in our "emotions" is really going to help them if there's a time frame to stick to...? Much less so in a 'group' setting where we've gotta moderate and judge the time between questions and responses, and aside from being told or being allowed to allocate extra time for follow-up questions. I've no idea if he was paid by a Uni or whatever by the way. Maybe you could inform me of that? However, he's used his time to help maybe 100 people in the room, plus the amount of people filming, plus us who wasn't actually in attendance/privileged to have been able to go? I've little doubt that some people would charge MEGA bucks for what he gave to "us" for free. I know this *because* either they've a pay wall to access a behind the scenes OR they'd not allow any material to be filmed by the public who are present. Therefore, it's 'our little secret'. ...I believe in freedom of expression (nuances apply lol) Perhaps it's his presentation you disagree with? But(!) Like he states 'Treat it like food'. What you like, eat, what you don't feel nourishes you throw it away as we all learn, have our own personal and professional experience. I forget the exactly it's mentioned but I believe someone asks him something akin to 'what do you wish you know back when...?' Years ago I was in a studio situation and a similar point was raised... I think it's a great question for us ALL to reflect on every now and then as if there's one thing that's pretty constant, it's that over time, we ARE supposed to develop, mature and have respectul, and perhaps sometimes irrespectul fun at our own expense...;) Like Bruce Lee said - when we look at the finger we may miss the glory what it's pointing at.'( it's not an exact quote but Enter The Dragon is one of my fave films/stories.🤣🤣 (So, or rather ) And, with respect I hope it's not too metaphoric.

Hello Jacob, I‘m sorry that I can’t send an audio because I’m not sure that every „tone“ will correct received. This video was so inspiring to me. The thoughts and ideas of music and life are so true. It was so wonderful to listen to you. So at the end I switched of my phones and my mobile and wanted to sleep. I was looking forward for wonderful dreams, not the heavy ones in the last weeks. You have to know that I‘m lying in hospital. Eastersunday I had the concert with the band of the village, the next day I had fever and pain in every cell of my body. Two and a half week now. Till yesterday. it was the first time without fever and a human Level of pain. So I decided to cheer up with RU-vid. I like to repeat it again: to see you and to listen to you was so inspiring. But I couldn‘t find the sleep. The thoughts were so intensive. I decided then to send you my thoughts, perhaps to get them out of head for some hours too. I‘m frightend. I would like to live that I‘m lucky. But I have got to care for my son and my old mum. I have to earn money. Every minute in my life I have done things for other people or for me in hope that other people like it. I‘m realizing, no, I have realized a long time ago that my life isn‘t comfortable for me. But I can‘t find a solution that I can care for my son and my mum in the same time. Perhaps this disease is a result of to much stress. Perhaps you might pray to the universe that a door opens and offers a wonderful beginning of a solution. I pray to the universe that you may have a long, wonderful, lucky, happy and comfortable life with good music! Thank you for allowing me to gain an insight of your base in music and life.

Dear Diana. I pray for your health and your family. I'm not a very smart or resourceful person. I can't help you, nor can I teach you how to be helped. The stress you are dealing with is very real. And although I can't, I know there exists help for you. You will find it and get back to your best self. All I can tell you is the anecdote of when I had a heart attack and was hospitalised. Over a period of a year the medicines I took had made me worse, so I looked for other treatments online. The only thing that I tried since the beginning of the pandemic that's actually helped and made me regain my energy is diet restriction. I followed a community of people practicing so-called "zerocarb" and did what the name says and stopped eating all the bulk of my meals. Bread, rice, potatoes... It's very strange, and by no means medically sound. It goes against all you hear and read in the media anyway. The transition was tiring. Two weeks of mostly sleep and reading. The first thing I noticed was my cold went away. My nose stopped watering, and I felt present all the time. Then I noticed that my worry had gone. Like someone had lifted the anxiety from my shoulders, and I began trusting that things were going to be okay. Perhaps I trusted others because I trusted myself because I didn't feel unwell? It's a strange story. I am not suggesting anything. But I am better now. And I hope you will find what works for you too. Love, Marie

@@___xyz___ Dear Marie, Thank you for your warming words. I think I know what you mean. I dont‘t know yet what way could be a solution for me. I hope that at the right time a door opens for me. Hope shouldn‘t die. I wish you a wonderful and happy life with a good health every day! God bless you!

Hello Diana, I’m not prone to say this but… we are all in this together. Humans, sharing different but similar adventures, sorrows, responsibilities, opportunities. Thank you for sharing your pain - you current pain - with us. Of course I am powerless in your life but, somehow, I, we, are with you. We understand. Try to negotiate your current life into a place of balance between your responsibilities, necessities and opportunities. You matter. Of course there are seasons but while you hold on to the idea of this being a season do not choose unnecessary, unsustainable, destabilizing actions. And play. Play! Any way you can. We can’t help you but you can ask the people around you for help. Remember, some people feel BETTER about life when they help. Give those people the opportunity.

@@davidfleuchaus Hello David, it is so amazing that people I don‘t know and they don‘t know me come into conversation about so deep topics… and then at the same time so unbelievable sympathetic! I can‘t hold back my tears. Thank you for your words! I hope to be back at home soon. And then I want to try to make music. But my son is all I have. I want to open his way for his interests and want to show him the possibilities of life. I see it as my duty to be there for him. It is going to be hard. Thank you for your thoughts. I keep them in my heart. God bless you!

Hi Diana. I can encourage u by suggesting to look further than the universe to the very One Who made it, and Who made u. Jesus loves u very much and knows what ur going thru. Call out to Him in ur trial. He is trustworthy and will take ur life and keep it in a heavenly safe deposit if u surrender it to Him. I pray it will be well for u and that u look further... to Him.
