There needs to be a proper music video for CLARITY and Everlasting Motion / Djesse Personal favourites I just love this one way more after seeing the breakdown insta livestream lol
I learned this interesting factoid. Since this song is a Prince homage, it was amazing to learn that that was why he used Mononeon as the bass player. I mean Mononeon is astounding.... but heck so is Jacob on bass, Jacob's bass lines are at genius level imho. But Jacob stepped aside as an homage to Prince, Mononeon was one of the last collaborators Prince had at the end of his life, and worked with him pretty extensively. So in a way all that on fire bass playing here is a further Prince tip of the hat. Just read that.
@@nazarenkodenys Of course in the end it is all just opinions, having said that I will tell you I'm an old guy, been a musician all my life, and I've never in that whole life heard a more talented musician than Jacob. His work is filled to the brim with deep feeling, from a very early age he explicitly knew that talent means nothing unless it is in the service of art and feeling. I've never heard craft better serve emotion than in Jacob's music. Honestly you sound like you have never heard Djesse 2, a record aching with intense humanity and feeling. In My Bones is just a fun thing, but it has more "music" in it that anyone else on the scene right now, by a wide margin. The young up and coming musicians of the world are breathless with awe at his work and it serves as an incredible impulse for them to practice so they can wield some of the tools Jacob uses. Just look at the countless you tube videos of young people trying to master his skill set. Herbie Hancock, Quincy Jones, and countless other musicians throughout the world will attest to this. Sorry you have some blockage about his work. Try again at a later time! Thanks.
@@lalaricky1 I am not that old, only 27 hope to survive this :) ! I couldn't agree more with you, I'm beyond words with Jacob, I really love every cell of the music and the human being he is.
Massive Chicago sound vibes up in this thing. Prince would have approved. Actually, fuck. Prince would have loved Jacob Collier. He was all about those mad talents and positive vibes
Level 42 have a drum that goes “thwack” and a bunch of annoying white funk bass. Jacob Collier is the worst “R&B/Jazz” artist to come along in a long time - soulless and lyrically empty. He thinks he’s Michael Jackson - most people think he’s just an annoying dick.
@@datkinson1635 everyone who hates Jacob Collier seems to think they know what kind of person he is or who he thinks he is. I think you’re all just projecting.
Jacob Collier is an incredible musician but his production side is severely underrated IMO. The mix and production in this is the best I've ever hear. It's unbelievable.
EXACTLY! That’s what I said when I heard him for the first time. The friend who introduced his music to me wasn’t expecting hearing anything other than ‘harmony’
First listen: Hmm, this one might be a bit too commercial-sounding for me. Second listen: Intro beat is groovy though. Bass as well. Jacob rapping is kinda cool. Third and onwards: BE MY RUSH - BE MY CRUSH - BE MY FANTASYYY
@@augusto7681 I see what you mean. I didn't mean commercial as in cheesy or annoyingly repetitive; it's still Jacobean crazy and wild, maybe too crazy for commercial radio at certain parts, idk. I meant more the (vocal) production and vibe, and yeah, the verses and choruses as well. Sounds quite catchy an 'pop-y' to me. The way Kimbra comes in with the same melody in her verse as Jacob did in his, just an octave higher. Don't really know why that feels commercial to me, cause using the same melody for different verses is very common, but for some reason it does. Also, maybe most of all, the way that woman (Tank?) raps. I think her rapping is the only part I don't like, yet, but I've learned not to judge too soon. ^_^
@@DylanMourik I think he is learning to tone down a bit the crazyness in the new musics and experimenting with things outside of jazz. In other music he have a IDM drop. Also Kimbra is a pop singer so they maybe agreed to try to please both publics.
@@augusto7681 I knew the term EDM but not IDM. Looked it up; I finally have a word for that type of electronic music, which is the type that I like! (Flying Lotus, Apparat etc.) Not too sure what an IDM drop is though. What song do mean he uses it? I have a feeling that the craziness is not going to be turned down for Djesse vol 3. In fact I think he'll turn it up a notch :P
@@DylanMourik Sorry my mistake I meant EDM drop. But now I heard the music again it isnt a real drop just a few electronic elements that sound like edm. The music is With The Love In My Heart. (It will probably not soud like edm to you but sounded to me when I first listened it last year...)
Each of jacob’s songs are like an individual sculpture. They’re beautiful, but with the whole album they tell a story that’s just overwhelming. I’ve never been more excited about an album drop.
Héctor Melicoff ha, so true. I started teaching him piano during the lockdown. Twinkle twinkle isn’t this funky but at least he’s got somebody to look up to
As an older guy who grew up listening to talent like Peter Gabriel and Prince and so many others, it's very refreshing to hear a real musical genius create completely new music. Makes most of the other current composers sound like noobs, doesn't it?

I never would’ve thought of a collab with Jacob and Kimbra but it makes complete sense. y’all are on the exact same wave length, it’s weird as hell and it absolutely slaps. more pls
what about and Bill Wurtz/Jacob Collier? also this is incredibly well made in so different ways. the editing, the harmony, the groove man you will be remembered in the history books

I understand how non fans would think Jacob’s music is weird, odd, non-sensical and unconventional, but to fans his music comes across as so attractive.
Yule Tide Opinion noted. I wouldn’t go as far as to say conceited, he’s just simply sharing his extraordinary talents to the world. Now to be perfectly honest, I don’t think this song is his finest work, but his songs like Hideaway and You & I have such unique style that it just gives a whole new feeling to music that we haven’t exactly seen before. I do see where you are coming from though, and I’m glad to having you explain it.👍
I think that now JC has reached his poetical consciouness; he is not only a harmony wizard, he has tons of love for life, and life is magical from bones to smiles. Just now, when the coronavirus could destroy our love and gratitude for this gift it's precious to be aware of it it and keep on loving.
The power of the harmonies and frequencies he uses are intense. Listen to anything he makes when you're having a bad day, and I guarantee you will have a smile on your face if you even slightly appreciate the art of sound. 🖤
I'm actually commenting on a RU-vid video, JC what have you done to me... but GOOD LORD the chord progression in the second half of each chorus (2:12). I have listened to this song a good 20 times now and EVERY TIME the chorus repeats I just burst out laughing at the sheer audacity of that progression. It makes no sense that it makes sense!
In light of Jacob's reveal in his track breakdown that Herbie Hancock has a few fun cameos on this track, I got thinking. There are significant stylistic echos in "In My Bones" to Herbie's funk/electronica period in the 70's/80's. I'm thinking Herbie is one of the big style influences in this crazy gumbo of a song. The modified voices, slap bass god, electronica in general, funk feel.... it all adds up
I dig Kimbra a lot. All of her stuff is great. And Tank is a freaking powerhouse. I didn't know I wanted these two together, and now my brain's broken. This song was killer. 🙌

I got a whole different kind of jealousy towards Jacob.. He made a song with Kimbra. He danced with Kimbra... He played operation with Kimbra.. She opened her jacket and he came out of Kimbra!
Golden Echo is so top. I didn’t really understand the record until like 10+ listens. It’s pretty much a love letter to all the genres of music I believe Kimbra enjoys- theres r&b, disco, hip hop, funk, etc. It’s a massive album (especially with the bonus tracks).
I love this song! I didn't want it to end! I've heard a few songs by Jacob and they were ok, but this one is ass shaking fabulous! Props to Kimbra & Tank too. Killed it.
Your face is as expressive as your music. Both are wonderful to experience. I need to listen to this often; it is wonderful. You look like you are really digging the sounds.
I think my favorite thing about Jacobs style of music is simultaneously my biggest qualm. The multitudes of lush dense layers upon layers of harmony make it hard to pin point one groove to vibe with. It’s like less of a song and more of like this whole auditory experience. Like being back seats at your favorite bands concert with the sound diluted and warped with distance & the crowd cheering & the bass shaking your skull. It’s SOO SOOOO SOO GOOD BUT ITS LIKE ALSO ALOT !
Yeah I agree, although it's getting better with every new release there always seems to something that's too much, like 1:11 for example. Makes me cringe everytime (audio-wise, idrc about sock puppets) and imo makes no musical sense
This popped up for me after Thundercat, and I've never felt so seen. I don't know who Jacob is, but Tank and Kimbra are both incredible so he must be incredible too!
