Jacob deGrom had a complete game shutout against Washington Nationals. He struck out 15 batters while allowed no walk. This video contained replays for his strike-three pitches, so a bit longer than usual.

You can see exactly what he’s doing with it at the 2:10 mark; he pulls on the front of his right pant leg, near the hip flexor. I don’t know if he’s using foreign substances, but the front of one’s white uniform pants seems like a rather unlikely hiding spot.
@@IdliAmin_TheLastKingofSambar I agree, I really hope he is an exception and is not using foreign substances because it seems like almost everyone else does.
@@Andrew11017 As do I. Here’s an interesting analysis comparing deGrom’s spin rate over time to other top pitchers; it’s obviously not definitive, but does suggest that deGrom is likely clean: www.reddit.com/r/baseball/comments/ntqy69/comparing_degroms_spin_rate_to_his_peers/?
Wdf r u talking about? at 2:10 after the pitch hes pulling his pants back down cuz they go up on you when you have to move your body to pitch the ball that hard. Your watching the best pitcher on the planet give the man his credit and stop making up nonsense.
@@rickpiff3097 Totally agree. _Opposing players_ say, unprompted, that Jake is one of the few guys who plays it straight, and that he’s just that much better than everyone else. He’s one of the few players who truly is universally respected among players, coaches, and front offices. Generational talents exist; there’s a reason we have a term for them. I think Jake will end up in the same “shooting star” category, along with Koufax and Pedro, of extreme, all-time dominance in a relatively short career; of course, I hope his career ends up being much longer than that. (And before someone yells at me 😆, career length is why Kershaw isn’t in that group.)

Masterful!! He's from another planet right now. Kidding me starts the game 100,100,101,101 , 7th inning still going 100, 8th still printing 100, what the heck!! This dude got some serious stamina😎
They are way out in front because they have to look fastball & get something else ... this guy is unhittable when he’s got both fastball and slider going.
one thing that this video also highlights. tomas nido is that fucking GUY when it comes to pitch framing. degrom gets so many more calls because of him
Nido is actually a really good defender and when he plays consistently he actually hits fairly well......A team like Pittsburgh or Colorado could use him as a starter
Thanks for doing this, it's great! FYI, there are a few strike out pitches you label slider that are actually change ups. For example, Schwarber to end the 4th inning. Easy mistake to make, since they sometimes look quite similar. Even the great Gary Cohen calls the strike out pitch to Turner in the 4th a slider, but it is in fact a change up. Keith corrects him afterwards on the broadcast.
I agree. The pitch type is read by the movements, not by pitchers' grip, so the error occurs sometimes. Nice observation and thank you for the comment.
@@DawgHen0 also, for a right-handed pitcher, sliders cut into lefty batters, away from righties. changeups tail away from lefties, into righties. the commentators make those mistakes every now and then, especially when offspeed pitches have similar velocity.
@@southpaw602 Although occasionally, Jake will intentionally throw his changeup to the glove side against right-handed hitters-he did it to Trea Turner in this game, for instance-which can make it even more confusing, even though it might still have a tiny bit of arm-side run that’s hard to perceive on the broadcast.
@@IdliAmin_TheLastKingofSambar visually, sliders and changeups behave completely different. confusing them happens by not looking at the pitch the whole way through to the mitt and maybe looking at the speed instead. sliders cut toward pitching glove side. changeups, for the most part, tail toward pitching arm side.
I am really excited to see this guy pitch. He is my favorite Rangers' player for the next 5 years. However, I do notice he has been getting very many calls just outside the strike zone. This may not be sustainable.
Painting corners at 100 then you have to worry about a nasty slider and then a change up that makes good hitters look like Little Leaguers. CY Young 2021 for DeGrom.
I love that Bell and Schwarber both seemingly gave up by the 7th inning. Bell does anything to even make contact and still strikes out and Schwarber knowing he’s got no shot just swings away thinking if he gets lucky it’ll give ‘em a run (and still strikes out)
