Quando se fala na Era Dourada do rock português, imortalizada como o Boom do Rock Português, a qual ocorreu nos finais dos anos 70 e grande parte década de 80 do século XX, terá obrigatoriamente de se falar nos Jafumega. Oriunda do Porto, a banda nasceu em 1980 na sequência do fim da banda juvenil Mini-Pop, onde pontificavam os irmãos Barreiros (Mário, Eugénio e Pedro). A este trio juntaram-se Luís Portugal (voz), Álvaro Marques (baterista) e José Nogueira (saxofonista) e desta forma nasciam os Jafumega. Em 1980 editaram o seu disco de estreia, “Estamos Aí”, cantado em inglês, sendo que a partir daqui, e à boleia do Boom do Rock em Portugal, decidem cantar em português. Criaram alguns temas que se tornariam imortais, tais como “Ribeira”, “Latin’américa”, “Kasbah”, ou “La Dolce Vita”. A voz aguda do vocalista Luís Portugal e a guitarra virtuosa de Mário Barreiros fazem parte da história do rock português. Hoje, volvidos mais de 40 anos da sua fundação, os Jafumega mantêm-se vivos através dos membros originais, Luís Portugal, Mário Barreiros e José Nogueira, aos quais se têm juntado jovens músicos que têm levado a palco esta icónica banda.
When we talking about the Golden Era of Portuguese rock, immortalized as the Portuguese Rock Boom, which occurred in the late 70s and most of the 80s of the 20th century, it is mandatory to mention Jafumega. Originally from Porto, the band was born in 1980 following the end of the youth band Mini-Pop, where the Barreiros brothers (Mário, Eugénio and Pedro) were the leaders. This trio was joined by Luís Portugal (voice), Álvaro Marques (drummer) and José Nogueira (saxophonist) and Jafumega was born. In 1980 they released their debut album, “Estamos Aí”, sung in english, and from then on, and following the Boom do Rock in Portugal, they decided to sing in portuguese. They created some themes that would become immortal, such as “Ribeira”, “Latin’américa”, “Kasbah”, or “La Dolce Vita”. The high voice of vocalist Luís Portugal and the virtuoso guitar of Mário Barreiros are part of the history of portuguese rock. Today, more than 40 years after it´s foundation, Jafumega remains alive through the original members, Luís Portugal, Mário Barreiros and José Nogueira, who have been joined by young musicians who have taken this iconic band to the stage.
