To start with, a claimer that I have spent hours listening to Jagjit ji and am one among the millions of 'big' fan of his work, particularly in private mehfils, thanks to the generous uploads by many samaritans! This masterpiece by Shakeel is certainly better in Begum Sahiba's version. Not sure which raag this is based on, but Begum Akhthar's I believe is on Pilu. The very composition oozes with such melancholy and Begum Akhthar's presentation of it simply haunts!
no i am not comparing. i am a great fan of jagjeet singh also. he did a very good job of " kuchh to duniya ke inayaat ne tod diya". roop kumar rathod did exceptionally good job of kaifee gazal " mai dhoodata hoon jise" originally sung by begham akhtar5.
