At first, you might blame the girl but she did tell her mother that it was just a lie. However, her mother ignored her confession. It's the grown-ups in the movie that did not know how to handle the situation. People who believe children don't lie probably never been around kids before. They do lie. They lie all the time. They lie to get attention. They lie to get away from responsibility. They lie just as adults do.
Don’t put yourself in these situations if you can help it. My friend’s real estate agent sent his office manager (female) over to show an empty office building. It was so stupefying this day and age, we didn’t even get out of the car, just told her we’d reschedule and drove away.
im totally with lucas but... i dont know how to say it but say in another story another girl. what if the girl is telling the truth? how do we draw the line?
Sadly because of how many kids being sexually molested parents have every right to protect their kids! I am one of 5 siblings we all being sexually abused as little children by an uncle! I actually told my family that he did not touch me (until this date!) while my other sisters said the truth! He’s an amazing man as all my family thought & actually did not think of confronting him even though they knew! Because guess what! They thought the kids are lying & ignored the truth! I think I’m this film actually no one to blame except the girl whom I think she was just confused by all the questions! & even if she said she lied before her parents won’t believe her as she might say it now because of the drama around and tension! Parents did what they could best IMO and of course the teacher is terribly suffered with no reason! It is a very sad and horrific situation to be in! This is one film that I felt gutted watching it. Mads deserved an Oscar for his performance!
The single biggest mistake made by anyone in the film was when people started asking Klara leading questions, making up their minds about what happened before getting her full and unbiased testimony. Also, Klara's original "accusation" isn't even intended as an accusation; she thinks she's just insulting Lucas with something embarrassing -- naively mimicking what her brother said while he was laughing at pornography earlier. She never even claims she saw Lucas's penis initially; only later does that element enter the story through the adults' own assumptions and leading questions.
It's not even about forgiveness. He's just aware how ignorant and incapable of anticipating the consequences of one's actions is a child's mind. You can't blame a child for behaving like a child, that's what he realizes and surprisingly many people here don't.
Not really. She quoted her brother because he showed her porn, and than when she got angry she quoted her brother. And the adults manipulated the confession out of her. She didn't know what she was doing. I would forgive her. She was just an ignorant child,
Yeah look. It's impossible to put myself in his shoes because thank the gods I've never been in them. But he's a kindergarten teacher, he understands children and how their minds work. And also it's his best friends daughter, I think it was inevitable he'd forgive her.
The way she wrapping her hands on his shoulders after a slight moment of thought, deep down she feels sorry and likes him very very much. Great and emotional scene. That man is so sweet
i mean realistically, even the adults aren't really in the wrong. They reacted the way anyone would towards an alleged pedophile. That's why the movie was so frustrating; nobody really was to blame for what had happened
If you hate her parents, you completely missed the point of the movie. How fucked up would it have been if the parents didn't believe their own daughter? The point of the movie was that it was nobody's fault and yet it still all went to shit.
Okay let's all stop with the "no one's to blame" nonsense; it's 100% the girls fault. You Don't have to judge her like you would an adult but it's time to face the uncomfortable truth that no kid is exempt from being a shithead all by themselves.
Can happen. A lie blowing out of proportion. Of course you will believe your child especially with that details. Exceptional writing, directing, acting.
That girl hard her heart broken by Lucas (Mads), turned his life into hell with people feeding her lies and in the end, lucas is still kind with her. I would never approach this girl again
@@plopp9781 now that you said, its really true. And I get Klara's being confused. She tried to tell everyone Lucas did nothing many times. Anyway, great movie and she will be a great actor
Noah Johnson Strong as in strong in spirit or constitution I’d approximate. A strong spirited person of lesser intelligence earns more of my respect than a weak spirited person with more so intelligence.
It’s hard to ignore something when it is destroying your life. And forgiveness? I could see forgiving the girl because she’s just a kid and doesn’t fully understand what has happened, but her parents and the other adults in the town? Fuck them. They were ready to crucify the guy for something they had no evidence of him doing. That doesn’t warrant forgiveness in my opinion.
Don't put finger on her!! This movie indeed carries message that everything is fixable and sometimes you need to go through fire to prove others your morality.
yea this is my favorite scene from the movie !!! this took real courage and strength for him to do that ! it was the hardest but correct decision to make ! she is only a child and to treat her exactly the same as he use to before is to be very strong to not shift blame from the grown ups onto her genuinely caring about the children which also is something that a child worker would have insight and training to understand.
@@likewaterjkd Lucas didn't just do it to forgive Klara and begin treating her the same as before. He did it because he had to get out of the world the town had put him in. This little action helps him immensely to achieve those goal.
Can someone explain the motif of the lines/ stepping on them, I’m not sure why that is Klara’s trait. I understand the gun/hunting metaphors I think but any other explanations would be appreciated
What if I tell you he actually did it? If someone is interested, i can give some other evidences, but here are the majors: 1. He didn't know which kid the teacher was talking about until she told him, which was kinda obvious it was klara and he didn't mentioned she kissed him, gave him letters or anything; 2. He used to also abuse her brother. You can see it everytime they meet, specially on that christmas scene that he cries talking to her, as if he is sorry that it happened to her either. In the beginning, lucas tells klara he used to be a teacher in her brothers school; 3. Still about the brother, the scene they are celebrating marcus's hunting license, the brother is shown purposedly frame under a deer's antlers, showing he is the 'pray' and Lucas the 'predator'. He is the one who shot lucas and purposedly missed, showing him he knows who he is and he won't let it happen any longer; 4. The basement the kids talk about is actually on marcus's rich godfather house, which probably was envolved in all the abuses. I believe on the last interaction between klara and lucas, she is framed perfectly centered in the basement's door; 5. Klara never said she lied; I'm brazilian and some subtitles are translated to her saying she lied, but apparently in danish she said something related to 'I said wrong things'; 6. Above all, it always bothered me his lack of self defense. His expression were ambiguous through the whole film, potentialized by mikkelsen's stunning performance. Basically Vintenberg trolled us all. I recommend everyone to watch it again with a different perspective. It makes even more sense. This movie is truly a piece of art.
I just finished the movie and I was left with a disturbing feeling after the ending. I stumbled upon your comment and honestly I don't know what to think anymore. You definitely got a point. The ending really left me doubting who shot. The strongest point might be his lack of self defense, which I tried to justify as if he was to kind to even react to accusations and violence. Although he has some moments where he does respond. Could he really be guilty and we've only been shown one side of the story? I won't be sleeping tonight.
It seems that behind her its the basement the children were referring too when they accused Lucas of sexual abuse. I don't know why so many people believe Klara was lying
Because the script itself said that there is no basement in their house. Why would the director and the writer of the movie tell the audience that there is no basement in his house if there actually was? What the hell kind of sense does this make. And this isn't even Lucas's house.
Your mindset is excatly that of the townspeople and you would be standing ahead of the mob. The movies is CLEARLY showing you on multiple occasions that Lucas is innocent. It also clearly shows you that Klara is lying, also on multiple occasions, it shows her confessing to lying. However you still form in your head a theory that the man is guilty even though the director clearly states that he is not! You would could indeed be the shooter at the end!
@@64491601 your mindset clearly shows that you always dismiss the victims appeal. When Lucas was confronted by the director of the school, he never said he didn't do it. He didn't even know which child has denounced him at first, maybe because he rapped not only that girl, but a lot of other childs
@@gglucs1799 the director was never upfront with lucas, he asked and she and everyone including police denied him answers. he was seen as guilty from jump. he went to her parents first once he knew who the child was, he tried to be civil. those appeals were the making of the adults, children mock and repeat what they see and hear. example: repeating what her brother and his friend said about the bad pictures they showed her. or her informing lucus what her father thought of him before everything happened. your focus is blind it seem. some topics are hard but you always do best to handle with care as life could be at risk and the adults failed klara and lucus
