I honestly, really, really, love your car reviews. I look at your reviews first because they feel more real than other reviewers, thinking about things that actually matter to normal people, thanks and keep it up :)
This guy is so beholden to the German manufacturers ! Makes it impossible to consider his views anywhere near impartial. I've owned BMW's , Jaguars , Land Rovers and Mercedes. 8 times out of 10 the Jags and Landys offer better value for money and superior fit and finish. Especially when benchmarked to BMW.
Ordered E Pace Chequered Flag P200 3 weeks ago saved £4000 with carwow discount thank you. After having a good look around at the latest BMW, Audi, Mercedes. And was considering another Evoque but expensive compared with the spec on the Chequered Flag. My brother said his P240 is one of the best cars has ever had,, and his weekend car is a Aston Martin Vantage. So taken his advice and hopefully it will be good for me.
The 250hp base version costs as much as the bmw x1 20i 190hp base configuration plus the jaguar is better equipped so it's considerably cheaper than the x1. The 25i x1 is like 7k more expensive than the p250 for example and still has a less performant engine. So this p250 looks interesting and the base model is also acceptable well equipped or perhaps few little extra optionals can be added.
I've had one of these for a week now (Rental while my Focus ST-3 is repaired, apparently this is their idea of a like for like replacement lol) While I agree that the drive is nothing to shout about, it is acceptable for its intended use. It's comfortable and easy to drive and the leather interior on this is beautiful imo. I prefer Hot hatches and saloons, but if somebody gave me one of these tomorrow, I really wouldn't complain.....
I was desperately waiting for this review Matt! It's a coincidence that I got offers just today fir E Pace through Carwow and was just waiting for this review to decide :)
Dorifuto11 I think it's because as their large saloon is the XF their large SUV is the F pace and their small saloon is the XE so their small SUV is the E Pace
@Konstantin Ridaya How does it make less sense?. They have 3 sizes E, F, and J. Saloons are marked XE, XF, XJ Suv's are E-pace, F-pace, J-pace (if a size above f pace would exist in Jaguars lineup) The electric suv is called I-pace. Mercedes has an E class aswell, do you go on complaining about how you thought that was "electric" aswell?
@Konstantin Ridaya Mercedes does indeed have some complicated naming, so by comparison Jaguar has some pretty straight forward names. Guess the horsepower and fuel type for the D180 engine? That's right, 180hp, Diesel. P300? Exactly, 300hp petrol engine. Now compare that to a Mercedes C 180d. Diesel is correct, but what does 180 stand for? it has 122hp, and a 1.6L engine? Or a C300, yes the lack of a 'd' indicates petrol. But the 300 once again has nothing to do with power or engine displacement. Same story for BMW, and audi and many more car brands. Long story short, if the only confusion Jaguar causes is wether E or I stands for electric, (which becomes obvious as soon as someone is actually interested in buying) they've done a pretty good job at naming their cars.
A true petrol-head e class is already a known thing this isn’t, just think e pace sounds like an electric Model of a “pace” if that was a thing, where I pace this just mostly meaning less just doing it because of bmw i3 i8 who most likely did it because of Apple who did it to mean internet
Its simple: XF sedan, Fpace SUV XE sedan Epace SUV XJ sedan JPace SUV (still being developed) I think the only people who are confused are those that take less than 15seconds to work it out.
If you are even remotely interested in EVs then you already know it is the iPace. If you are even remotely interested in a small Jaguar SUV then you will take 5 secs to work out it is the ePace. I dont see any confusion or inconstency. And with some companies car name being virtually incomprehesible and sometimes unpronouncable this seems a pretty small mountain to cross. Im not really enamoured by EVs anyhow. I like to drive and like to go substantial distance and I dont want refuelling to be any kind of limit to when and where I go and it isnt. EVs however are extremely limited in that regard.
So it's based on the Evoque, which is based on the old Land Rover Freelander 2. Damn, that's one old new car Jaguar have there, no wonder it weighs so much.
I had to watch the video twice to see if Matt's dog was real or fake, turns out the dog is real and not a stuffed animal. As for the electric tow bar, this is a brilliant piece of engineering and should get some kind of an award for functionality as well as pleasing the ladies in terms of the potential it offers, great review overall.
Jaguar/Land-Rover interiors are really behind the curve I think which is such a shame because their cars are very pretty to look at. Cheap looking grey plastics, awful layout, cluttered design. It’s like three different interiors stuffed into one cabin. The use of leather serves to frame this problem rather than hide it. The Velar is nice inside, but it’s not particularly interesting either.
Peanus Benis They don't have too much money like Germans invest on those things. You can't compromise safety and performance. So no cost cut there. It is obvious that they cut cost in interiors. Do u know that by the time JLR sell 1 car bmw, Mercedes and Audi sell 30.
^they sell more because their cars and interior are nicer and more reliable! It’s business. Mercedes, BMW and Audi don’t just have more money out of thin air. They make a good product lol.
Jaguar really cocked it up with this car ! Why on earth didn’t they use aluminium for the bodywork? Heavier than the F Pace ?? . Got to be one of jaguar’s biggest blunders!
Wow, so now Jag's got the XE, XF, XJ and E-Pace all at or near the bottom of their respective classes! It only seemed like five minutes ago there was a long-overdue resurgence going on :/
I'm in the market for a new compact SUV and was considering this on the shortlist. But so far the Audi Q3 just does everything better. That's a real shame as I quite fancied trying a Jaguar.
For the verdict part, Matt has done it from narrative point-of-view rather than being there himself. The Jaguar E-Pace does offer fabolous tech-on-board, useful practicality and comfort. Despite that, it is not the best to drive and does not perform like a real Jaguar and I would go for the Range Rover Evoque.
Any chance you could review more cars that people earning the average wage can afford to buy, rather than a succession of 40k+ cars that seem to be the mainstay of your reviews? Thanks.
Can you use the «watch key» as a normal key or do you have to have a normal key with you at all time aswell? Cause Volvo has this waterproof 3rd key as standard on the new models and there you dont Need to use two keys to drive. Silly... but like the consept on using it at the wrist!
Epace is the baby fpace.. it has many elements to prove that.. one of that is a baby jaguar with mama jaguar print on windshield which matt missed to show us here
Indians think this is an Indian car just because an Indian company owns Jaguar. A Lamborghini isn't German just because a German company owns it. A Volvo isn't Chinese just because a Chinese company owns it...
Yumeitoアルジュン Tata's colour finally shows through... Thr former british opium agents who tried to sue britain for stopping the opium trade ...have as their birthright an entitlement to public's money ...no matter what shit they feed u ... Tatas are a parsi families..they like to advertisr they r indian..but their actions and attitude clearly show that they r in india just to farm human energy...just like they and their ilk farmed and shipped opium...The parsis set up hongkong and built the ships for the opium.trade ... Parasites feel at home in the mother of all parasitic corporations ..Londinium ..research how thry killed off the car that runs in comprrssed air ..by buying it off.. They r parasitic monopolists that run the crown franchise called india from behind the scenes..
Raghu Reddy nope. I'm not making shit up. I think you know who's Faisal Khan. Just check out the comments on of his community posts about a Land Rover. Also on the velars review. Most of the Indians are simple minded idiots who think Jaguar and Land Rover are an Indian company now...
Good review carwow/Matt 👍🏻 Nothing worse than clicking on a review to find that they think trashing it round a track actually tells everyday people anything useful... Personal preference of course but I think it’s better looking than its rivals. Had an XE as a rental car when my c220 was getting fixed and actually prefer the Jag infosystem *shrug* But like mentioned, to get this specced to be worth considering, price wise, it just get ridiculous and you get a better quality/finish for the same cash from the Germans in my opinion.
You may as well get an GLB instead of an E-pace for that price. Mercedes has done a pretty good job with the exterior and interior design + the cutting edge technology on that one...unless you want to support GB of course
I love how we talk about infotainment system all the time, Most people conect their phones for bluetooth and maybe use the Sat Nav every now and then. How impressive does it really need to be? How about you tell me if the Audio System is any good or if its worth upgrading to a bigger system. Because reality is people just drive and listen to music on their way to work.
I like the E-pace, but I priced one out (well equipped S trim) and found that for only a few thousand US dollars more you can get an acceptably equipped F-pace prestige model.
Sure but why lot of people thinks that the best bargain while buying a car is having the biggest with the same amount of cash? Luxury cars aren’t potatoes and most of the times are chosen with some emotional feelings to.
Thats only meaningful if you WANT a big car. If you want a small SUV then you compare it with other SMALL SIVs otherwise the comparison is pointless. We are getting a P300 HSE R-dynamic and it is absolutely NOTHING like the low specced, underpowered city-crawler that was tested.
My point is that I think it's overpriced. I drive the car I do because it wasn't offered with a third row like all it's competitors, so I know bigger isn't best. But cars from the class below shouldn't be so close in price. Congrats on your new car Geoff Flight, I hope you enjoy it!
