Brilliant video, knowledge and discussion. Even though I have never owned an E Type (One day? I have had many XJ's and two XJS V12's) I found this video very informative and interesting. Top stuff young man, best regards from the UK!

Thanks Chuck . Back in 2012 l had the uneviable task of converting a series 1 bonnet into a 1.5 . My word it was hard work ! And luckily my "e"type IS a series 1 .......phew !

Very interesting! Watched the whole thing even though I'll never be doing this conversion, nor be owning another XK-E. You've done very good work here, a real craftsman.

This bonnet from my coupe 1E34263 was built on February 9, 1967. From what I’ve read, the coupes started open headlamps (at least LHD) at 1E34250. So even though we’re in February of ‘67, it’s very early in open head lamps for coupes. If they started on January 1, 1967, maybe they were doing roadsters or RHD coupes or 2+2s. Some people have suggested to me that you could have a ‘67 E type with covered headlamps from the factory if it was European specifications. I don’t know if that’s true or not. At any rate, thanks for another great presentation explaining a complicated subject with your typical humor and panache.

Thanks for the video. I'm just now installing this kit that I bought from you last year. I was one of the people that called with a question of how to attach the chrome bezel to the bonnet (the series 1 bonnet has captive nuts). Your response was to use self tapping screws, which I plan on doing. If my memory is wrong, please let me (and the viewers know). Otherwise, I guess I'm just adding a little more information. I also notice that to remove the diaphragm it looks like I need to remove the scissor/spring assembly to get room to take out the panel - correct?? In addition, I need to re-route the headlight bucket wiring with a grommet (series 1 1/2 has a blanking grommet there) on the diaphragm so that the headlight wiring goes aft of the diaphragm, then thru the rear of the headlight bucket - correct??
