I remember Andy well from his time in the Reds from 1997 to 1999. I was the Customs Officer RAF Airfields in Eastern England and he was my contact with the Team in his first year. Lovely man to deal with. Real gentleman.
I'm an ex paramedic with the welsh ambulance service did a stint on heli-med squirrel as a joint venture with police ASU. love anything to do with aviation and aircraft of any description. Used to regularly attend the 'Battle of Britain' open days at RAF St Athens . Remember being awe struck watching the English electric lightening point vertically skywards Like an space rocket. The Noise and sheer power was unbelievable. The ground literally shook and you could feel the sound waves through your chest. Ah memories! On a note of the Red Arrows, one of the paramedics at my old station in Newport South wales told me (excitedly and Proudly) that her Nephews had got in the arrows! Well done for pointing Andy, in the right direction!
Lucky guy! I cant make my mind up ....Hawker hunter for sheer beauty but EE Lightning for sheer awe and power! I take it your nephew is still IN the RAF? He has a friendly no nonsense demeanor about him and the way he showed the Jaguar, its control surfaces, etc, and explained it in a way that showed he was full of enthusiasm for the aircraft t and his job. Very lucky guy!
Excellent video, well presented. Thank you. This is an early airframe, initially delivered to 226 OCU at Lossiemouth I believe. I was there in 1974 as the Jags were being brought into service. I was fortunate to go from Lossie to Coltishall with 54 Sqn, the first operational Jag squadron. As groundcrew, our training emphasized the fact that the Jaguar was designed for ease of servicing, a fact that I became acutely aware of on a subsequent tour on F4 Phantoms!!
I just discovered this by accident. I remember Andy and his wife from 2005 at Kemble when I was doing a basic AOPA Aeros course. Andy wasn't one of my instructors which was just as well because I would have been too star struck knowing of Andys RAF Jaguar and Red Arrows background! This is a fantastic video, looking forward to parts 2&3.
I had the privilege to see Jaguar force at Coningsby prior to disposal after Coltishall closed. The last front line RAF jet flown by the seat of your pants.
Very well done with creative shot angles. The part wheen he climbs and steps on the plane itself is plain impressive and help vizualizing how big and high the plane is. Love the Jag now.
8:25 what a threatening looking aircraft , that stance is just amazing - like an undercarrage, with a plane attatched to it ! Real bird-of- prey looks . Wales UK
@@caw6884always enjoyed it as a child, unfortunately for me in ‘99 at the age of ten I was seriously ill and didn’t go for a long time but was there in 2010
+Christopher Crosby Andy is very proud to have me as an uncle!! I was first in the RAF!. Andy's three years with the Reds was a fabulous time for me......
The badge is the emblem of 16 Sqn known as the Saints borrowed from the sixties TV program with Roger Moore they used to fly Tornados out of RAF Laarbruch in Germany, after they came back from the first gulf war they were disbanded becouse of the defence reveiws and took over the Jaguer Operational convertion unit from 226 OCU at RAF Loosiemouth in about 1991.
many thanks, now i want a 2 hour interview/documentary of a pilots view of flying with the red arrows and as one of the synchro pair............Im surprised no ex red arrows pilot has ever written a book on the subject (same format as the jaguar video) of what it takes, feels like, the training involved etc of being in the red arrows from selection to display. Hopefully with lots of details........There are books about the red arrows but these are mainly photographic based.............but a nice book from a pilots eye view would im sure make great reading (he hinted)! Regards and thanks anyway
