What a gorgeous car. I’m tempted to say they’re such an underrated classic, but when I see how much work is required to bring one up to a good standard, It does make me wince a bit! When it’s finished though it will be fantastic. I think I’d rather have one than a Ferrari 400.....

I think this generation of XJ is one of the best looking cars ever made. I have been looking at Series 3s for a while but you are right, you need to dump a ton of money to get them in a good shape.

What a lovely sound when it finally ran properly. No matter how long it takes to sort out all the niggles, this is such a beautiful, elegant and desirable motor vehicle that it has to be well worth the time (and money). Both in saloon and coupe form this model Jaguar has to be one of the most beautiful cars of all time. Sir William had such an impeccable eye for line and proportion.

Loving this resto series. I’d an old uncle who owned a succession of V12 Jags when I was a young lad. I still remember the incredible smell of the interior and leather and the way it seemed to float over the country roads as we flew along. Looking forward to seeing it finally finished but very glad I’m not footing the bill!!

The old Lucas Opus electronic ignition, didn’t have reputation for being wonderfully reliable. I’ve still got a complete Opus kit in the original box from Lucas, never been used, must have bought it in about 1977/78. Reason for buying it was to be fitted to a Full Race engine, Cooper S, and it was to address the potential problem of points bounce at high revs.

I have just got home from removing the rear subframe out of my daimler double six to carry out a rear brake overhaul as it needs disks and pads and hand brake pads as one of the pads on the hand brake has gone up the road and the calipers have split piston gaiters so a good reason to start again keep it up Harry.

2:10, I'm surprized they haven't done the fuel rail mod, the fuel hoses are still relying on hose clamps rather than being crimped to the main rail (as the rubber settled over time the clamps loosened and the hoses started leaking). Due to the high number of fire incidents, I was involved in Jaguar's fuel rail retrofit in the early to mid-80s during my apprenticeship. This also included a 'breathing' distributor cap to ensure any fuel leaks entering the cap are sucked out.

Hello again, 'Harry', so good to watch 'MECHANICS' at work, today the main dealers have 'Technicians' who may be good with computers and use laptops, look for fault 'codes' replace items, most don't even know how an combustion engine REALLY works, there is still the need for 'old school'. The threads on new spark plugs are coated specifically to avoid galvanic corrosion between dissimilar metals. 'Coppaslip' should not be required unless re-using plugs (when the protective coating is likely to have been compromised after initial fitting/use).
