The Jaguar XK represents excellent bang for buck value on the used car market, from the base model XK's to supercharged XKR's. And anyone who follows Beards 'n Cars knows the sheer amount of content I've produced about the Jaguar XK range, from reviews, to Rivals showdowns, to best and worst countdowns. But somehow I actually managed to forget to do an actual long-term review of my time with an X150 shape Jaguar XKR 4.2 Supercharged Coupe from 2007.
So let's condense down some of my key thoughts on the good and not so good points of XKR ownership for this long term owners review of the Jaguar XKR.

I watched all your videos about X150 and also comparison with X100 before buying X150. Having both now, 2001 XKR convertible and 2010 XKR convertible, I can just confirm all what you say. Despite looking for and then buying one with 19” wheels, X150 is harder, but still acceptable, it is more robust, it has very comfortable front seats and great front cabin space, so it is comfortable enough to travel. Due to the roof folding into the boot it has less boot space comparing to x100, but still satisfying. X100 is soft and gentle modern classic. Both models are so beautiful (interior and exterior) and very, very different, so I just hope I will be able to keep them both also in the future…

I'm 6'8 and 100kgs and like you, I love to rotate through a never ending bucket list of cars, and have just replaced a Porsche 996.1 3.4 manual. I recently bought a 4.2 XKR Convertible in Frost Blue, and your videos were very helpful, especially when I learned you were 6'3! Witht he seat all the way back and down, I am perfectly comfortable and it feels like 420bhp is plenty. I managed to get a beautiful low mile car, and if I had gone 5.0 it wouldn't have been in the same condition. Early days but very happy and loooking forward to summer!

Your reviews and comparisons of the XK/R models and the Maserati Gran Turismo were instrumental in my decision to purchase my 2009 XKR. As a long-time XJ6/8 owner, I sought to one day buy an XK8. Once I was in the market the XK (X150) and the Maserati were viable choices to consider as well. Your reviews were spot on. My ownership experience has been similar to yours, with no major issues. The only thing which has been a pain to get sorted is the TPMS which intermittently displays a false warning. Also, the infotainment system is really lacking when compared to even my Jeep Grand Cherokee. However, those two issues aside, the car is wonderful. Its effortless power, acceleration, and ride quality make trips both exhilarating and comfortable. Thanks for leading me to my dream car.

I’ve owned a late model XKR 5.0L for 2 years now , it’s our daily driver. It’s cost me around £5,000 in that 2 years for repairs and servicing. The boot space is very good , very useable. It’s very comfortable as a daily driver.

2500 a year is far to much

I bought mine used with 98,000 miles on it and have had it now 3 years and I love it, I’ve spent nothing on reps and it is almost a daily driver, the only issue I found is an issue in the dash sounds like the 6 disc cd changer keeps running after you shut it down

My repairs to my 2007 XKR are minimal. After heat soak it would not idle. I presumed it was a dirty Mass Air Flow sensor, dirty throttle body and/or dirty air filters. So I sent it to a local shop that has done good work on my XJ8L, XJ12 and my XJS 6.0. I had them change the oil and filter as well as service the aforementioned components. $700 later I received the car with the same problem, so now I got directly involved. My scan tool and theirs could not get a code that identified the issue. In fact the PCM gave me about 5 pages of codes, so I pulled out the PCM and sent it to a company that rebuilds them without losing your codes for door locks etcetera. Cost of the repair was $250 US. After I installed the refreshed PCM it immediately identified the Manifold Absolute Pressure module as the culprit. I ordered a new one for $80 US, installed and problem solved. My greatest dislikes are the lack of proper gauges, tach, volts, temp and the perf leather seats. Other than that it's great.

Used your videos as a good source of honest feedback. So far, I've owned my 07 XKR for nearly 2 weeks and here is what's happened. Huge grin on my face every time I get behind the wheel, surprisingly more spacious than I was anticipating fitting the pram and all my sons toys in the boot, average 16.9mpg doing the daily work and school run and already had to change the ABS sensor on the n/s/r wheel. Overall I'm pretty happy with it and hope to keep it a while till i feel the need to sink my teeth into something else

Is rust a problem more on older model years ? Any insight on aluminum v steel body panels in terms of bi-metal corrosion ? I like the headlights and the ‘spitfire’ wing shape dash on earlier models more JAG-RRRHHHH.😎

I can't speak on the earlier cars from personal experience, but I have heard of them having some rust related issues more structurally. In my case of an aluminium X150, it did have a little bubbling on the corner of the drivers door, but even in the countryside it fared pretty well given the roads

Been thinking of having the back box removed. Did you have any issues with the MOT test when you did yours?

They do indeed, though you may need to have the front seats moved more forward to account for them in the back
