when you actually see their eyes you see the lights, very smart of the cinematographer. per the Yorubas their artform is dialogue driven, hence i think the director thought it wise to stay faithful to the "culture". and also as much acting style in vogue rn is "show but do not tell" per the setting of the movie, the director thought it wise to change this "rationale" where we are getting used to "just watching" not listening to the dialogues because the dialogues really made interested in the movie. The narrator, the sage and the major characters had powerful and meaningful lines which needed to be listened to.

But the part where the tree is falling, the tree itself is not CG, it is a real shot that was filmed seperately from the actor's performance short, of course for safety reasons, I think, and the actor' perfomance plate composited in the empty plate, this can be achieved with the camera projection technique whereby the actor is projected onto a 2D plane or more simply, Blender 3D(which my youtube channel is mostly about: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZECvaC-0UH0.html) users wll call "images as plane". And morever if you observe very well this freeze frame from this time stamp 13:04 in your video, you will notice that the black points of the actor is far more intense than the black points in the background and probably fearthered a bunch and the trees behind him doesn't seem to collide him if observe closely when that part is played. But there is room for improvement as a it is a significant step towards Hollywood.
