That goes to all the way back in 2006-2007. The first mod based on zombies was called Biohazard mod for CS1.6 and then in 2008, the first stable and more polished mod was renamed to Zombie Plague for CS1.6 as well and by early 2010, that mod was implemented to CS Source.
Thanks so much for making this video. Even though it was rather brief, I appreciate this trying to recognize the game mode I loved so much back then. Electric razor was definitely a classic map that I remember playing on. It had a lot of other spinoffs and improved versions too.
man i miss NA jailbreak a lot now, used to play that for hours and always meet new friends on there, and probably one of the best gamemodes to have a community on, theres something about jailbreak on css feels so much better too compared to gmod or csgo jailbreak. i could never get into because of the differences of content and general feel. css jailbreak always felt consistent even on different servers that have different game rules and such. also I AM THE LAW
Ah, nostalgia. Jailbreak was one of my favourite game modes. It made me join a clan with long friendships and got me interested in mapping. I ported many source maps to global offensive and made a few of my own. Making minigames was fun, but I loved adding secrets. My favourite secret was an armoury that would push players away unless someone crouched on a specific seat. Not many people knew how to activate it, so when I joined the server, I would open it to the amazement of others.
@@dkskcjfjswwwwwws413 Yeah but that was a defusal game, and let's also say that the map design wasn't brilliant. I think that maybe that random path feature would be okay for a jailbreak mode.
Thanks for making a video on the history on this! Used to play CSS heavily 2008-2011. Peak Zombie Mod, Mini Games, and Jailbreak years. Jailbreak always felt like a late night talk show type of game. Always was funny and super social; like the divebar version of all the three mods.
Really liked the video! Maybe could've been a little bit more in-depth given the title of the video (probably would've been better to call it "The Origins" instead of "The History", as that's what most of the video is covering) but it was still good! Very simple and to the point
gamebanana was called CSBANANA before it expanded to multiple games and rebranded as FPSBANANA (I wanna say this happened in like 2006/2007? can confirm w/ the waybackmachine)
@@mikolaj4879 Well, French Jails had "classes" for prisonners. One had "bhop", one had "speed", one had "more HP" and some other boosts powers. It had some similarities with english server with the minigames such as Simons says and the rules : The guards had to watch over the prisonners if they had weapons, got into restricted zones, were harming guards or violating laws. There were Guards only, Prisonners only or neutral zones. The most popular map was called jb_bagdadpiou, can't even find it anymore over the internet. It was made by a friend of mine :)
I used to play the zombie mode so much when i was young in CSS. zm_lilpanic was such a banger map. I remember everyone racing to that tiny room in the basement of the map. Everyone would have a M249 and shooting that pop machine against the door so the zombies couldn't get in. There was also a tiny little crawl space where you would put two players on each end. Good times.
On the Turkish side of things, this thing was especially huge with 1.6 during mid-late 2000s. The most popular map (with its countless variations) goes by the name jail_buyukisyan or jb_buyukisyan but it usually is something like that. Buyukisyan roughly means "bigrebellion" but i guess it's more like "bigprisonbreak". It's always been one of the most popular ways to play the game for us Turks and it still is, for some reason.
I wasn't the most liked, but I played most jailbreak servers on css as a squeeking kid/teen I used to play with papa smurf and the creator of Minecraft before it was big. Notch used to play CSS jailbreak, I can confirm it as a primary source Hey mom I'm part of history
man seeing the spy v spy jb map at the end brings me back. I used to be only play csgo for jailbreak in 2014 when i was a kid. I remember when the arms deal update came out it ruined the "credit" system that would give you rewards like trails and "skins" (the skin would just "tint?" the gun like purple or orange) and you were such a baller back then if you saved enough credits from playing for them. I didn't even know match making or ranks were a thing until the bravo update. And even then I only played competitive to make my aim better for fighting on jailbreak! :)
I played so much JB on CS 1.6. It was on Neondragon server based in UK or EU. I even made a friend of it IRL. Now all servers & communities are dead. "Simson says..."
As a Turkish guy who even owned a jailbreak server in the past this video was mind-blowing. I didn't know jailbreak was mostly popular in Turkey, I think the main reason is it being so popular among streamers and youtubers in the past.
I liked Hosties version of jailbreak where t's spawn w/ deags better but I liked Jailbreak more than anything else besides the hosties mod of jailbreak
fuck man I remember playing jailbreak on cs source every day after school these maps brings back many memories of fucking around on jailbreak. Jailbreak does not feel the same anymore sadly. jailbreak lego is most goated map of all time
I ran a css gaming community last year in 2021 where we had a jailbreak server which hit 30/30 player every night from October 2021 to January 2022 , community was called “NLG”. Only shut it down due to being busy. Before that there was Gamepunch , before that there was EGN. Right now the only populated server is JBX. There’s also hell clan which is a very populated UK server.
“It all began after one day, Freddy got home from school, bullied all day once again. He wanted to make a game mode in his favourite video game where he would be the one in control and have all the power to do what he likes to people”
Forever looking for a nice server to play electric razor v6 on. It's a shame such a fun mode has been abandoned. Spent countless hours over 10 years ago doing S4S, deagle toss, rock paper scissors, etc If I had old footage I would make a video documentary on it in hopes of bringing back popularity but I'ved switched PCs since then about 30 times now lol
theres a server called libre on css that still plays jailbreak and has a high player population, also has electric razor in rotation and many classic jailbreak maps. north american server too
To think NA jailbreak servers are dead is crazy!!!! Always used to be plenty of games on CSS. Haven't played a game of it in probably 8 or so years, I figured it would always be popular!
Not dead but definitely dying. There is pretty much only one jailbreak server that is still popped and that’s eGo. Some have shut down in recent years like Tango and HellsGamers.
i watched both forgotten cs map videos so i thought i would check out your channel to find more and the sound quality in this one is so bad that after two minutes i can't listen to this anymore probably good informative video but go back to your old mic that you used in forgotten map videos .
By 2010/2012 I played this for so many hours in CS 1.6... Good times I guess. Then the mods to play it were evolving pretty fast so it wasn't the same anymore; too many commands and weird things. Loss its essence. Recently, in CSGO, I searched for some Jailbreak server here in Spain but the scene is dead. 😔
This was one of my favorite mode both in 1.6 and csgo after surfing . When I bought csgo I only played zombie jailbreak etc I didn't even knew competitive existed lool
"...because the CT's always had a sizeable advantage..." You trail off, voice catching in your throat as dozens of D-Class laugh at you from the shadows of SCP : Secret Lab.
i was a part of the jb scene on cs:source, the maine US server shut down around a year ago and the only us server now is only popped on weekends around 10pm-3am
Well done video, commenting for the algorithm and for an new video ideea, cs 1.6 furien/night crawler mode, I played that A LOT and its a shame that the gamemode didnt get ported over to csgo.
There was even a source mod called Jailbreak: Source that came out back in the day that I think was basically just a balanced out version of the Escape game mode but with intergalactic space reptiles and robots with futuristic weapons for both sides, all of the maps were prisons if you couldn’t tell.
Yeeee boy. The jailbreak Community is still going strong. I am working on the mod from the ground up with tones of gameplay features and role-playing opportunities that are nothing like anything else
I often play jailbreak in CSGO, while there are only a couple servers that run jailbreak in north America, these servers are usually well populated. Its not hard to find at least one server that has over 30 players.
Hey do you have discord I have a bunch of information on the Australian jailbreak scene it’s history is extremely well documented and even has a website dedicated to it I would love to shar it with you
I think escape gamemode can be fun, its just overshadowed by the zombie escape, in the sense that whenever you search for it on youtube for example, you just get zombie escape results
I still remember from 2015 when I as an admin on a csgo jb server, that it WAS very popular, every evening it was full 64/64,but we kinda knew each other, played regular cs from time to time and always had fun on the server (eu cs)
Jb_oasis was my favourite jail break map ever. Spent many years playing jb game mode, having such big variety of gameplay and custom servers really helped to entertain me during my childhood and teens
I had a friend who wanted to play jailbreak maps and I never understood the appeal in the slightest, but seeing the history was interesting regardless. The original escape game mode sounded fun if unbalanced. I could see it being tweaked and added in as a mini game for an operation.
The servers I used to play on warden was Simon and everyone had to do what Simon says and if he doesn't say Simon says and someone does that thing then they get shot. Each round was a day in game and on each day there was a different theme. I remember 1 was called duck day where all T's have to walk crouching only or bunny day where everyone had to jump without stopping. 1 of my fav ones was protection day where all the T's were allowed to go to the weapon storage while all Ct's went to a specific random room in the map and had to protect it from T's. It was fun since the Ct's were outnumbered but they took the best weapons from the weapon storage and T's were left with the shittier ones.
